My name is Kasia Nia Wade. A community member of the Coachella Valley since 1998 and a graduate from La Quinta High School (Medical Health Academy) in 2014. I have dreamed of becoming a Registered Nurse and giving back to my community within the Coachella valley and Los Angeles County for quite some time. Due to the recent events in my life during the pandemic, I was unable to pursue this dream within my determined educational timeline, but after months of hard work and determination I have finally completed my prerequisites for COD’s nursing program and I am determined to start my career with much passion. It was my grandmother, Doris Wade, who first introduced me to the nursing career as she was in the second graduating class of COD’s Registered Nursing program, and one of the few African American Graduates. Her kindness, determination, and passion for Nursing inspired me to follow in her footsteps and continue meeting and helping those we love in the Coachella Valley and our neighboring communities. After the recent passing of both my mother and sister during the hardest periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nurses and staff that supported and cared for my family during those times have shaped and inspired me to continue pursuing my goal of becoming a respected RN and advocate in the Coachella Valley. I wish to help those and families that were in similar situations. My future plans and goals include graduating and learning as much as possible from the COD RN program or another program located in California so I may give back to my community and in the future additional communities in the United States. I believe a scholarship will not only aid me in achieving my goals but make a difference in the lives of those around me. In addition, I also dream of becoming a travel registered nurse to help communities in low economic populations that require additional help, and be able to volunteer my time and skills for those who cannot afford healthcare in our country. Healthcare should be a given right, and I hope to be a member of the community that plans to advocate for those without a voice or ability to access the necessary medical fields required for quality life. It requires aiding future generations the necessary tools they need to make a difference over time, and I plan to be one of them.
