Hi! My name is Kasandra. I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I started college a little later than I had originally hoped for. There were a lot of hardships that prevented me from starting right after high school but thankfully I have had an amazing support system and I am now finally able to start what I wanted to years ago.
All my life, I’ve had to take care of my family and my only real goal in life is to provide stability for them. I am hoping to receive a bachelor's degree in Marketing with a minor in Spanish by 2025 and be able to take what I am taught in college and hopefully work as a social media manager that will be able to provide the financial stability that I’ve always wanted for my family. I want them to be able to go to the school they want or travel the world if college is not in their future without worrying about if they have enough money or not.

What is my most outstanding achievement to date? That is hard to tell. Throughout my life, I have been dealt a bad hand. As a child, I thought my life was perfect, or as perfect as can be, but as I grew up, I realized my family was not as happy as I thought it was. My mother had been unfaithful to my father and left us for another man. So, the task of raising the children was passed to me and if I had to say what my most outstanding achievement is, it would be taking care of my family.
At the age of twelve, I was set this impossible task of looking after my family while my father was working to support us, I did well for some time, but it was a lot to ask for someone so young. I felt as if everything and everyone relied on me. As I grew older, the weight of looking after my siblings grew as well, and as soon as I was able to get a driver's license, I got a job. Over the last couple of years, I have worked at three different companies, all amazing places with amazing people who have helped pull me out of a bad mentality and supported me through the hard times- especially after our home burned down. But growing older has also made me see how far we have come. We live in a stable place with a steady income, and my siblings have grown to be remarkable people. I would not take all the credit for it since my father played a significant role in our upbringing, but I am proud to say that they, my siblings, are my greatest achievement.
The experience of raising my siblings has taught me that I am a strong person and can do anything I put my mind to, even in the worst of times. For my future, I hope to find a career I love that will still allow me to look after my siblings and father. No matter what, I will always have the mentality that I have to provide for them even if they do not need me anymore, but I hope they will come to me during hard times. I also hope to help those who are or have gone through situations like mine, where they have put off going to college or pursuing their dreams to support their family.
