      1. The stories of my ancestors inspire me to aim higher and stay rooted in who I am. My name is Karameli Luresa Kuliaokapuuwai Fraser, a senior at Kapolei High School with proud Samoan heritage. Raised by a hardworking single mother and supported by my grandparents, I’ve been shaped by their sacrifices. I plan to pursue computer networking and engineering to build a career in technology. My goal is to honor my family’s support by succeeding and giving back to my community. 2. My grandfather, the late Papaliitele Lusi Te’o Fraser Jr., passed away in 2019 and was a father figure who filled my life with guidance, discipline, and love. Losing him was deeply painful, as I no longer had someone to turn to for comfort and advice. Over time, I turned that grief into motivation to succeed in his honor. He taught me to put God first, family second, and community next—values I carry with me every day. My faith gives me strength, and I believe the resilience rooted in my Samoan culture continues to guide me and help me overcome life’s challenges. 3. My journey over the past 18 years has included both challenges and triumphs. Raised by a hardworking single mother, I was fortunate to be closely supported by my grandparents, who became like second parents to me. They guided and encouraged me, and I later helped care for them and my disabled aunt. In Samoan culture, family is everything, and that strong sense of unity has shaped my commitment to serving others. I’ve been active in community service through my church youth group, DreamHouse Academy—where I completed over 100 hours of service—and the Kapolei High School Samoan Club. These experiences include food distribution, land clean-ups, and volunteering at community events. Serving others comes naturally to me, and receiving this scholarship would help me continue my education and expand my ability to give back to my community. 4.I am drawn to philosophy and deep thinking because I’ve always searched for meaning in my life experiences. Growing up in a Samoan family, I learned to reflect not just on my own choices, but on how they impact my family, community, and relationship with God. This perspective helps me find purpose in both challenges and successes. My identity is rooted in faith, family, and service. Samoan culture emphasizes thinking collectively—considering how our actions affect others—which naturally shapes how I view responsibility and purpose. My Christian faith also guides me to reflect, grow, and learn from life’s challenges, especially after losing my grandfather, who was a father figure to me. For me, philosophy is not just about thinking—it’s a way of living with intention, staying grounded in my values, and striving to give back to others. 5. I care deeply about access to education, especially for underserved communities like my own. Growing up in a Samoan, single-parent household, I’ve seen how financial and resource barriers can limit opportunities, even for capable students. Education is not just a personal goal for me—it’s a way to uplift my family and community. I’ve stayed committed to my studies while giving back through my church youth group, DreamHouse Academy, and my school’s Samoan Club. In the future, I plan to pursue computer networking and engineering to help bridge the digital divide and improve access to technology. I also hope to mentor students from similar backgrounds. By continuing my education and leading by example, I aim to create opportunities not just for myself, but for others as well.
