Growing up the only clothes I knew were those given by the many community organizations. My clothes were rarely bought new from a department store. Once a year, before school starts my parents will bring us to Walmart to buy a new pair of undergarments, a new shirt, a new pair of pants, socks, and maybe a dress or skirt. Being the second youngest I got passed down clothes as a plus.
Spending a lot of money on clothes never made sense even to me as a college student but, food was another story. I never ate out. We always ate inside. As a kid I never got Mcdonalds Happy meal, no fancy dinner night. But it helped me learn a lot about saving money but also when to use money. We grew up learning that money should not be used on materialistic things, fast food or restaurants, and especially not on alcohol or drugs. We learn to save money, even after budgeting and coming out with a free extra bucks, it was put into the savings account.
As a child, I watched my family struggle with money and they helped me to budget and not spend on unimportant things. Watching them struggle made me realize that having enough money is always important. It’s not having a job you enjoy but having a job you enjoy and support you in the future. It has made me realize how to save money and to use money wisely. When there is a time where you can spend money more freely use the money to buy you things to give you your self satisfaction.

Someone I admire from history is Socrates of Athens. Socrates is a greek philosopher from Athens and is thought to be the founder of Western philosophy. He is one of the first moral philosopher in the ethical traditions of thought. There are many reason why I admire him. The main reason I admire him is because he always stood to what he believed and never let anyone diminish his work or ideologically. His strong sense of self and truth forces me to learn more about my own truth and self. He was wise, moral, and ethnical. He had a middle economic status and made money from his teachings. He used what he thought about and made it into a career and to bring more knowledge to the community. Although, he was not a noble man he worked and studied to teach his students. He did not grow up with everything given to him. In actuality he had to learn how to bring his studies forward and how to leave and impact on the world. I do not necessarily leave an impact on the world, but I want to be able to change someone's point of view and guide them. Even after declaring him the death penalty for his studies, Socrates stood to his studies. He did not let anyone's criticism get to him and kept a clear and wise mind. At one point in my life I will want to be wise and at peace with myself. He had said many things that make me question myself and my own actions. By reading his statements, it makes me feel like I am challenges to view how I think and how I act. I am able to retrace my steps and become at peace with myself.
