My name is Kamsiyochi Ulasi. I recently graduated from Hoover High School, and this fall I will attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
One trait that best defines me is determination. When I focus on a task, I do not let anything keep me from completing it, no matter how much I feel like giving up. Track & Field is a great example of that. I have been running track since the 8th grade, and it has never been easy. Even after countless practices when I wanted to quit, or days when I did not feel like myself, I still showed up every day and gave it 100% of what I had. When I first started, my goal was to run under 11 seconds in the 100 Meter dash. My first meet, I ran about 14 seconds. Through staying consistent through injuries, mental fatigue, and negative thoughts, I ran a personal best of 10.98 seconds at the last meet of my high school season.
Experiences like those helped me believe that being smart, determined, patient, and consistent will help you achieve any goal you put your mind to. They showed me that staying committed through challenges can turn goals into real results.
