Bio

I am a first-generation college student studying Music Education. Growing up in an A cappella Church of Christ instilled in me a passion for singing from a young age, leading me to participate in choir classes and voice lessons for several years. I hope to impart the same sense of safety and love that I gained from my choir classes to others. Additionally, I aim to be a positive role model for my younger siblings, showing them that there are endless opportunities available to them.

I initially joined the choir due to the influence of my family. Observing my mother and her sisters harmonizing during my younger years ignited my passion for singing and ultimately led me to pursue choir. I am fascinated by the wide range of feelings that music can create and the meaningful stories found in songs when you look closely. As a first-generation college student, I am passionate about pursuing a degree in music education and inspiring others through teaching, just as my choir teachers and church family have inspired me throughout the years. My choir classes started in 6th grade, and I have proudly continued my involvement in choir as a Soprano 1. In 2021, I transferred schools and have since been a valued Chorale and Chamber Choir member. This year, I am thrilled to have been selected as the Chamber Choir representative and Overall outstanding choir student. Now I have set my sights on a bright future in music education with a minor in vocal performance. I have taken private vocal lessons and participated in masterclasses since 2022. I performed my first solo for a solo contest in 2020 and have consistently received perfect scores. I have also earned gold medals for my performances. I began the All-State process in 7th grade and I continued in high school, during my junior and senior years, making it to Area auditions both times. In July 2023, I attended an All-State Camp at Sam Houston University. In 2024 I auditioned and got accepted into multiple college music programs, such as Houston Christian University, Southwestern Christian College, and Prairie View’s Music A&M. I've moved houses, school districts, and states, but no matter where I've gone, choir has always made me feel included and like I belong. I believe that music classes are crucial because they provide students with a positive outlet, lifelong friends, and new experiences. I've had the opportunity to sing at Houston Rockets games, a Houston Astros Game, district events, a Houston SaberCats game, my high school graduation, and many more. Even though I didn't attend the world's best high school, I'll always be proud to say that I represented my school's choir. As a senior and representative, I realized that our underclassmen were just like me when I first started in choir - nervous to be themselves, to sing out, and too afraid to show their talent. Encouraging and befriending them made my senior year one of my favorites. Seeing them come out of their shells to be better versions of themselves always makes me tear up. I'm so proud of my classmates and how we all improved together over the years. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. As someone who has transitioned from a shy girl too afraid to perform a solo in front of the class to singing for judges and stadiums filled with hundreds of people, I strongly believe that music programs have the power to help students build self-confidence and develop the courage to be more outgoing in other areas of their lives.
