Bio

My passion lies in combining Business, STEM, and community to creative innovation solutions for tackling one of the world's biggest issues: Climate Change. I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the world around me and believe that by bringing people together, we can create innovative solutions that will drive this change to shape the future. I am always excited to explore new opportunities and tackle complex challenges--and reducing global warning will be just that. Whether I am working on a project or collaborating with a team, I always strive to be a positive force and bring out the best in those around me.

Dynamic Edge Women in STEM Scholarship
My favorite invention over the past 10 years is bioprinting--the process of making functioning organs using 3D printing technologies. I love it because it is not only really cool but has completely revolutionized healthcare by allowing for the creation of a much less limited number of organs. This allows for more lives to be saved by driving up the supply (of organs) to meet the demand (for organs). Further catapulting this effort would greatly reduce the problems of organ shortages, donor health liability, and would increase equity in healthcare for marginalized communities and those affected by poverty. As you can likely tell from my answer to the first question, I am very invested in combining STEM and Business to create a better, more equitable world for people at large through innovative technology. However, my personal interests lean more toward the sustainability sector of STEM. I have always loved science and gravitated toward leadership roles, so I plan to combine my upcoming Bachelor's degree in Business (that already has a STEM emphasis in Innovation and Leadership) with a Master's degree in Biology. With this combination, I intend to aid in the development of innovative solutions to ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues faced by most businesses in response to Climate Change on a global scale. More specifically, I intend to use my studies to help innovate, propel, and popularize the usage of non-gasoline cars. The emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) is one of the leading contributors causing the shift in atmospheric temperature. Furthermore, considering that climate change is a global issue, I have dedicated myself to learning multiple languages. At varying degrees, I currently speak four: English, natively; Spanish and French, intermediately; and Korean, conversationally as of right now. I plan to continue learning more. I am currently a Senior who will graduate in December of this year after completing my final semester in the fall. I have an internship this summer in Seoul, South Korea wherein I will be working on the business side of a STEM-based company. I am still waiting on information about my final placement but I have already been interviewed by a biotech company that focuses on healing rare diseases as well as an AI sleep-tech start-up. Going forward, I plan to apply to a graduate study program abroad via the government’s Fullbright program. This program seeks to connect American students with universities abroad with the goal of fostering cultural exchange and furthering research efforts. Circling back to why I plan to Master in Biology: many people only think of Biotech as being used for things like genetic research, however, biotech goes way beyond that. In fact, humans have been using biology (and biological processes) to create technologies since the dawn of time: developing farming techniques (e.g. irrigation), creating homes (e.g. using leaves as a roof), or even making more complex foods (e.g. walking the fine line between cheese and mold). This would be what is known as Industrial or Environmental Biotech. The research found in these fields could help us to create new materials for EV batteries or develop more sustainably-sourced biofuels. Biotech can also help in the development of materials used in the car’s manufacturing, such as biodegradable plastics. The innovation and progress being made in the field of sustainable transportation is remarkable but we have much further to go. I am enthusiastic to learn from and join the ranks of those who are making meaningful contributions to preserving our planet.
