Bio

Going to college to become a therapist or counselor is a big dream for me that I will one day achieve. Majoring in psychology will help me achieve this dream, but unfortunately I come from a low income family, so I do not have all the funds to go to a great college with a good psychology department. I am a great candidate because I am very passionate about what I want to do in life and I hope everyone can achieve their goals and dreams.

As I stand on the brink of graduation, my mind is keen on transitioning into higher education to study the world of psychology. It’s not just a major to me, it’s a calling. I’m captivated by the complexities of the human mind, ebb and flow of emotions, and the mysterious ways in which we connect with one another. The power of human connection is very fascinating. It is this complex web of interactions and relationships that deeply shapes our lives. The shared experiences, empathy, and the understanding that surfaces when people come together. These bonds we form with others can be like a safe haven, giving us a sense of belonging and purpose. They shape our perceptions and can even impact our health and happiness. Pursuing psychology in college, I would be able to unlock the essence of what makes us tick, one breakthrough at a time. I’m ready to dive into the depths of this fascinating field. Being a voice that could create change within the youth whether that means being a therapist or a counselor is something I want to achieve in life. Therefore, pursuing an education in STEM will guide me on this journey. STEM subjects often intersect with psychology in areas such as neuroscience and cognitive psychology. Having a strong STEM background will allow me to have a deeper understanding of the biological and technological aspect of the human mind, enhancing my ability to explore and explain complex psychological phenomena. Although this is a field that’s constantly evolving with limited opportunities and is intense with all the research and data analysis, it requires one to be mentally focused and driven. My career goal to work with the human mind and behavior is what kept me going on this journey. Moreover, STEM is all about innovation and pushing boundaries. By incorporating STEM principles into my psychology studies, I can explore emerging technologies and research methods that could revolutionize this field. The advancements of artificial intelligence and data analysis are already influencing psychology research, so just imagine a couple years from now. As my high school chapter soon comes to an end and the doors to college open, I stand ready to embrace the fusion of STEM and psychology with open arms. The journey ahead of me is not just a path to a degree but the journey to understand the complexities of the human psyche and the power of our connections. The challenges of a field that is constantly evolving will fuel my determination to be a catalyst for positive change, particularly for the youth.

Quran, my older sister, is one of those people for me. She came to me for advice on a major life decision recently. Her job is asking her to relocate and move four states away from where she currently resides. As she explained all of this to me, I listened carefully, making sure she felt heard. I wanted her to know that I understood her feelings and would support her in any decision she decides to make. For this reason, I had asked her questions that would help her think things through from different angles. Like, “How would this decision align with your goals?” or “What are the pros and cons?” My goal was to help her see the bigger picture without telling her what to do. In addition, I gave her different scenarios from my life that were similar to her situation, just to give her more to think about. The most important thing is that she knows that I have her best interests at heart. I’d assured her that it’s okay to take her time making this decision. It is her life, and she should feel confident and at peace with her choice. As for the STEM challenge, diving into STEM as a psychology student was challenging at times but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t overcome. Although this is a field that’s constantly evolving with limited opportunities and is intense with all the research and data analysis, it requires one to be mentally focused and driven. My career goal to work with the human mind and behavior is what kept me going on this journey, being a voice that could create change within the youth whether that means being a therapist or a counselor is something I want to achieve in life. For future students, I would advise them to stay curious and open-minded. The challenges that come their way, they should embrace them as a part of the learning process. If they are dealing with a concept that is difficult for them to figure out, then they should break it down into smaller pieces to help them get a better understanding of the concept. It is very important to be organized and have great time management skills in this field. It’s completely okay to ask for help, it gives you a chance to expand your knowledge and skills.
