In my junior year, we did 30 minutes of volunteering a week. Since we were virtual, we looked up online virtual volunteering websites. I tried transcribing documents at first but all the fancy cursive was throwing me off. Next, I tried a website called Zooniverse, which had a lot of different volunteering opportunities you could do. After a week or two of that, I lost interest and looked for something that kept me interested and was fun to do. Finally, I came across a website called Freerice. In the game for every question you get right you donate 10 grains of rice. I signed up to keep track of my progress. There are different categories that you could choose from ranging from history to music to current events to many more. Freerice is part of the WFP(World Food Programme). For every 100 grains that equals 1 bowl of rice. 10 questions 100 grains of rice. I loved the game because I was both volunteering and learning. I set a SMART goal for myself at the end of the school year, I was going to have 100,000 grains of rice donated or 1,000 bowls of rice filled. I was doing this during volunteering time and in my free time when I was done with my work. I can say proudly that at the end of the school year, I accomplished this goal and even exceeded the goal that I set for myself. I ended the year with 101,500 grains of rice donated. I have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity by going to a virtual school. Back when COVID was going around and everyone was social distancing and school was virtual I benefited from it. I started my high school years on virtual and I ended my freshman year with a 4.0 GPA! COVID was tough for everyone but I didn’t let what was going on stop me from doing my best under those circumstances. With going to virtual you learn more about tech and how to use apps. I would consider myself more “tech savvy” than I was before I started virtual school. A lot of people would rather go on campus than go to virtual school but in virtual you are more dedicated to your education and learning, you have no distractions, and also you are in the comfort of your own home. Even though I like virtual I wished the school had sports because I wanted to play football but since they didn’t have that I finished all my classes and got more to get ahead in credits and to learn more things. I did this because when you have the opportunity to get more and go above and beyond, you take it. In conclusion, I make sure to get up every day with a good attitude and do the best that I can do on that day.
      Bold Talent Scholarship
My talents, I have many but with a maximum number of words I could only name a few. To save time, I will name my top three talents that I really love. My first talent is getting work done efficiently and quickly. I get good grades because of this talent. I turn in my work on time and the work is right. I practice this skill is by when the teacher assigns something, I don't wait until the last minute to do it because it will probably be done incorrectly and inefficiently. I do the work right then and there so I could have plenty of time to do the work and fix any mistakes if I have to. My second talent is that I am really good at helping people in math. Ever since I was a kid I have been really good at math. That's why I would like to go to UCLA and study business there. How I practice this skill is by understanding the concept of what is being taught, and then I come up with a simpler way of doing it and help teach it to others that have a hard time with it. My last but not the least talent is that I am kind and helpful. I am very nice to people I meet and get along well with others and if someone needs help, I will help them. This skills comes the heart, if your kind in your heart and like to be helpful then you are a kindhearted person. In conclusion, there are a lot of talents I have, some I might not even know. There are a lot of people with a variety of talents but I can say at least I love my talents I got.
