Bio

Struggles and adversities are hereditary in my family, from diseases and poverty to debilitating addictions and absent parents. Former role models tempted by addiction and corruption did not leave me with many superheroes but showed me examples of plenty of villains. The mustered courage of a four-year-old only managed to dissolve into tears because my father was not honest or even a loyal man. Each flaw in my family only left crater-size mistakes for the next generation to fall victim to. Nevertheless, this generational curse was broken by me. I could no longer be the victim. I became an honors student through custody wars, my parents fighting, and deaths like my brother and grandfather. I fractured and sprained my ankles and suffered concussions, but I continued walking, playing, and pushing. Through the tears, heartbreak, and pain, I believed in myself. I revealed that I was someone who gave hope by becoming hope itself. After discovering myself, I accepted myself, the me who could love myself, my family, and the me who ould appreciate the beauty on any canvas.

      Harry D Thomson Memorial Scholarship
I share the same dreams and aspirations as your organization: giving people with less privilege the right to education. Therefore, awarding me the scholarship will help me to get the education necessary to connect my passion for education with my desire of helping others. I am a senior in high school and have been accepted to attend Framingham State University, majoring in Computer Science, in the Fall. As an ambitious and driven student, I am committed to achieving my educational goals and building a successful career in my chosen field. My financial background has always motivated me to be better and to achieve distinction in my studies. Presently, financial challenges threaten to undermine my academic progress. I come from a family that cannot afford to pay for tuition, books, housing, or other education-related expenses. Your organization can help me achieve my goals and I am confident that with your support, I will continue to pursue my academic endeavors. While in high school, I obtained the ability to reason, make educated guesses, and sort facts from fiction. I found it challenging, yet exciting, to come up with ways to deal with hypothetical situations. I enjoyed writing with complexity about a variety of content in science, social studies, and literature. Using strategies to search for, use, and compare information from multiple sources, was very interesting. I began to develop a strong sense of right and wrong and make decisions based on following my conscience. I understand the consequences of my actions, not just today, but also in far-reaching ways. Finally, I have learned to always take other opinions into account, but to make my own decisions. Now, I am ready to set my own goals for the future by thinking more abstractly, comparing what is to be and what could be.
