My approach to student debt has never been passive. From the moment I realized how quickly loans accumulate, I made a decision to fight the cost of my education at every turn, not just by borrowing less, but by actively creating alternatives to borrowing at all. That decision has required creativity, persistence, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to stay afloat without letting debt swallow my future whole.
During the semester, I braid hair on the side. It is a skill I turned into steady, reliable income so I can cover day-to-day expenses without reaching for more loans every time something comes up. It means long hours after class and on weekends, but it also means I am not adding to my debt load every month just to survive. This summer I will be working part time, putting what I earn directly toward what I already owe. These aren't glamorous solutions, but they are real and intentional ones and they reflect how seriously I take the responsibility of the debt I am carrying.
I have also spent my undergraduate years treating scholarships and programs not as a last resort, but as a core strategy. When my loans became unsustainable after my first year at Prairie View A&M University, I applied for a competitive research program that secured me a full year of university at no additional cost. When I later lost my out-of-state tuition waiver, the thing that had made college remotely affordable, I spent weeks emailing and advocating for myself until I secured a scholarship that restored my eligibility. Every time a financial door closed, I found another way through. That is not luck. That is a plan I have been executing since the day I arrived on campus.
Looking ahead, I am scared. My dream is to become a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant, and the financial road to get there is steep. Recent changes to Grad PLUS loans have complicated that path in ways I am still working through, and coming from a low-income background, private loans may not be a realistic option for me. There are honest moments when I wonder whether the barriers being placed in front of me are ones I can actually clear.
But fear has never stopped me before, and I am not going to let it stop me now. My plan going forward is the same one that has carried me this far: apply for every scholarship and fellowship I am eligible for, research employer loan repayment programs in my field, continue working and braiding throughout graduate school, and refuse to let debt be the reason my dream does not happen. I am not waiting for the road to get easier. I am building a way through it, one deliberate step at a time, and this scholarship would be a meaningful and necessary part of that path.

My mother's name is Eureka. A word that, in its oldest form, means "I have found it." It is a name rooted in discovery, in the joy of searching and finally arriving. I don't think that's an accident. My entire life, my mom has made it her mission to help me find my way even when I had no interest in being guided.
She started early. Before I could walk, I had decided crawling was perfectly sufficient. My mom disagreed. She encouraged me and refused to let me settle for what was comfortable when I was capable of more. That dynamic never really changed.
Growing up, she filled my summers with workbooks and brain teasers I had to finish before being able to play outside while other kids played freely. I didn't appreciate it then. What felt like a sacrifice at the time quietly built in me a sharpness and discipline that became some of my greatest assets. She also spent countless hours searching for opportunities on my behalf; programs, scholarships, pathways I didn't know existed, finding things for me before I knew what to look for, living up to her name over and over again.
But what shaped me most deeply was not any single action, but the foundation underneath all of them. My mother raised me on the Word of God; not as a practice reserved for Sundays, but as the fabric of how she lived and how she raised me. As I grew older, I realized the principles she had poured into me were never just rules. They were her faith, made tangible. Through every hardship, her prayer covered me. Her trust in God's plan gave me something to hold onto when my own faith wavered. She didn't just take me to church, she showed me what it looked like to live with grace, steadfastness, and love for others.
The care and selflessness my mother poured into me didn't just shape who I am, it shaped what I want to do with my life. I’m choosing to pursue a career as a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant because I want to show up for people in their most vulnerable moments the way she has always shown up for me. She taught me that true service is sacrificial, and I intend to carry that into every patient I one day treat.
I am the person I am today, still standing after every obstacle because my mother never let me stay where I was when she could see where I was capable of going. Her name is Eureka. And because of her, I am still finding my way.
Champions Of A New Path Scholarship
The first thought that crosses most applicants' minds when seeing this question is "because I need it." But that isn't an acceptable answer because every single person applying to any scholarship is in need in some capacity. So rather than listing all the ways I need, I'd like to tell you who I am and let the decision rest on that alone.
My name is Kaliya Howard. I am a senior biology major at Prairie View A&M University, with minors in Public Health and Chemistry, and a cumulative GPA of 3.6. I come from a low income family, but I have never let that determine what I pursue.
I can say that honestly, because I've been tested. When I first applied to PVAMU, I didn't have the money to attend. I remember crying, feeling like everything I had worked toward was slipping away. But I showed up anyway. After my first year, the loans I was accumulating became unsustainable, and my only real option was to apply for a competitive research program, one I genuinely wanted to be a part of, but that I also needed in order to stay enrolled. I got in, and it secured me a full year of university. When that program ended, I lost my out-of-state tuition waiver, the thing that had made college even remotely affordable. Rather than accept that as the end, I spent weeks emailing, advocating for myself, and refusing to let it go. Eventually, I secured a scholarship that restored my waiver eligibility and kept me on track.
I tell you this not to highlight struggle, but to show you a pattern: every time a door closed, I found another way through. That is who I am.
My goal is to become a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant; a career that is both highly competitive and expensive to pursue. I know that. And I will still get there, not because my path has been easy, but because I have already proven to myself that I don't stop when it gets hard.
I am not here to beg. I am here to offer you the opportunity to be part of a journey that is already in motion, one that will continue with or without this scholarship, but that you could help make a little less heavy.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
Just a few short years ago my mom was struggling with back to back miscarriages as well as uterine fibroids and had to undergo many surgeries. Throughout those years she was neglected time and time again by countless doctors. However there was one person that stood out above the rest to help my mom and that was the anesthesiologist that listened to my moms concerns in a room full of doctors that wouldn’t. That single person saved my moms life by advocating for her and causing others to do the necessary testing to figure out the true cause of my mothers miscarriages as well as the effects it was having on her body. She was later told that she might not have made it through another pregnancy. At that point my brother and I wouldn't have just lost a potential sibling, but also our dear mother whom we love with all our heart.
After that occurred I looked further into the profession. Since early childhood I was called to healthcare, however I didn't know which direction to take. I would watch videos of operations and play surgery games for hours so I knew I wanted a part in the OR, but I had no desire to become a surgeon. Yet the hardships that my mother faced throughout her miscarriages inspired me to pursue a different route. All of sudden my path became clear.
Despite the increasing representation of women in medicine, there remains a significant gender disparity at the highest levels of leadership and specialization. This lack of gender diversity not only perpetuates stereotypes and biases but also limits the perspectives and experiences brought to patient care. Women face unique challenges in navigating the healthcare landscape, from gender discrimination and unconscious bias to work-life balance struggles. Like what my mother faced. birth is one of the most vulnerable and dangerous time for a women, yet it is usually reduced to painful contractions.
Like the anesthesiologist that helped my mother, I too want to make a difference. Not just for black women, minorities, or even women in general, but for all. I want to be able to be a voice of reason in a room of bias like that of that random anesthesiologist whose name we never got to know. I want to further my education to reach my goals and make the operating room a little less scary to at least one patient out there.
Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
Fairytail is hands down my ultimate binge-worthy anime. I could watch Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, and Happy go on their wild adventures over and over again without ever getting tired of it. What makes Fairytail so awesome for me is how the characters interact. Erza's tough as nails, Natsu's a ball of energy, and Happy's always cracking jokes. But it's not just about the laughs and action. Fairytail is all about friendship and loyalty. They stick together through thick and thin, and that camaraderie is just so heartwarming. Plus, the epic battles and emotional moments? They always hit me right in the feels. But it's also those quieter moments of vulnerability that really make the show special.
The relationship dynamics are really great too like the opposites levi & gajeel or zeref & mavis. For levi and gajeel they have a grumpy sunshine type of thing going, while zeref and mavis are dark vs light. I especially liked the death of them because they both got the eternal peace they longed for. I just wish they would’ve realized and talked to their son august before they were gone forever. The conversation he had with gildarts and kana really made me sad once i realized he was talking about himself. He was his father’s ace and yet zeref never knew his most loyal soldier was his blood son all along.
There are also more obvious couples that I love like elfman and evergreen with their constant talk about being manly or being fairytail's rightful fairy woman. Then you have bisca and alzack who were practically made for each other but they did not admit their feelings for each other until the whole tenrou island thing happened.
The relationships are the only things i can highlight though. Fairytail does a great job of being inclusive and non offensive even if that inclusivity isn’t always explicit. For example it is clear that freed has a huge crush on laxus which incorporates a gay character into the series and they do so without treating him weirdly or making him formally come out on screen. His character’s sexuality is treated the same as everyone else's. Along with that they do a good job with their female characters. A lot of anime tend to make the female characters weak or only for support yet one of the strong people in the fairytail guild is erza scarlet.
Aside from the characters, the fairytail is very well written overall. The archs aren't rushed, the characters have proper backstories, and every question you may have about the series ends up getting answered. You can have a feeling of peace and completeness after finishing the series that I've only ever felt with 2 other anime. Those being assassination classrooms and one piece.
I know that this anime is commonly hated because of the ‘power of friendship’ trope , but it fills me with nothing but joy and I can't wait to see what's next for the guild and fairytail’s strongest team in the new season that's about to come out.

With my career I want to be a voice of reason and an advocate for patients who may not be able to speak for themselves. Just a few short years ago my mom was struggling with back to back miscarriages as well as uterine fibroids and had to undergo many surgeries. Throughout those years she was neglected by countless doctors. However there was one person that stood out above the rest to help her and that was the anesthesiologist that listened to my moms concerns in a room full of doctors that wouldn’t. Since early childhood I was called to the medical field. However, I didn't know which direction to take. I would watch videos of surgeries and play surgery games for hours so I knew I wanted a part in it, but I had no desire to become a surgeon. Yet the hardships that my mother faced throughout her miscarriages inspired me to pursue a different route. All of sudden my path became clear. My reasoning for pursuing my chosen career goes hand and hand with my identity. With me being an African American woman my ancestors' history is full of advocacy. And what better way to honor my lineage than to advocate for black women and other demographics in the medical world where they are often ignored.
Grand Oaks Enterprises LLC Scholarship
As a black woman navigating the complexities of society, I am aware of the systemic barriers that often hinder opportunities for individuals like myself. Yet, in the face of adversity, I am fueled by a deep-seated determination to not only overcome these challenges but also to make a lasting difference for my family and community. Through my actions and choice of study, as an aspiring anesthesiologist assistant attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), I aim to empower those around me. Although this career path is said to make a lot of money, the reason for my choosing is more personal than that. Black women don’t make up much of the medical workforce, especially in higher positions and me achieving my goals can be the determining factor between life and death for a future patient.
Education has always been something of pride for me. Growing up in a low income household I was taught that the most valuable possession is your mind, and that’s something nobody can take from you. I apply the same principle in the way that I think about HBCUs. They are the stepping stone in building an impenetrable black fortress of knowledge. Although HBCUs are not exclusively black they do produce some of the most credible black people that you may come across. Not just because of the history that each HBCU possesses, but also the longing each student carries to continue the legacy that the founders created. The way HBCUs are a reflection of black resilience, is the same way me achieving my goals is a constant symbol of how far I've come.
My path is a narrow one. Being a black woman that doesn’t come from money it seems almost impossible, but like the forefathers of my HBCU, I will prevail! I’m currently a biology major that wants to become an anesthesiologist assistant. The money is good, the work life balance is good, but most importantly the impact it will have on my family will be good. And it already has been.
Just a few short years ago my mom was struggling with back to back miscarriages as well as uterine fibroids and had to undergo many surgeries. The racial stereotypes placed on my mother cause her pain to be ignored. All the screaming and crying in the world didn’t matter because she was a black woman. One thing I do know is that the anesthesiologist was a white woman. It took her putting aside biases she may have heard and relying only on her thoughts as a doctor to help my mother. I want to be just like her. I want patients to see me and feel at ease.
William A. Lewis Scholarship
Entering the world of higher education was like stepping into a realm of dreams and challenges. As a young Black/African American individual raised by a single mother, the path to college was fraught with financial uncertainties. However, amidst these obstacles, my mother emerged as my greatest ally, providing unwavering support and shaping my pursuit of education.
Growing up in a single-parent household, financial constraints were a constant backdrop to my aspirations. The soaring costs of higher education felt like an insurmountable wall, and the prospect of scholarships seemed distant and improbable. Despite the odds, my mother stood by me, reaffirming the value of education and nurturing my belief in the possibility of overcoming these challenges.
Yet, her support was not confined to words alone; her actions spoke volumes. Countless nights were dedicated to researching scholarships, grants, and resources that could potentially alleviate the financial burden of pursuing a college degree. Her dedication to my future became an unwavering testament to her love and commitment, igniting my determination to surmount any obstacle that lay in my path.
In the midst of my journey, I recognized the importance of representation in higher education, particularly for Black individuals like myself. The scarcity of individuals who resembled me on college campuses underscored the need for change. My mother's steadfast belief in my potential gave me the courage to strive for excellence and to stand as a beacon for others from similar backgrounds.
Under her guidance, I embarked on the pursuit of scholarships with renewed zeal, seeking out mentors who could offer valuable insights, and exploring avenues for financial aid. Her unyielding support served as a shield against discouragement, empowering me to persevere even when the challenges seemed insurmountable. She instilled in me the idea that every challenge was surmountable with determination, patience, and a strong support system.
Being Black, I understood that the journey was not just about me. It was about breaking down barriers, challenging preconceptions, and creating a path for future generations. My mother's encouragement allowed me to embrace this role, driving me to surpass not only my own expectations but also the societal limitations that were imposed upon me.
So, yes, the road to higher education resembled a mountain, daunting and steep. But with my mother's unfaltering support, that mountain transformed into a climb that I could confidently undertake. Her guidance equipped me with the tools to scale its heights, and her belief in my abilities became the wind beneath my wings.
My pursuit of higher education was marked by the formidable obstacle of financial limitations as a Black/African American individual in a single-parent household. However, my mother's unwavering support, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in my potential transformed this challenge into an opportunity for growth and empowerment. Her dedication has not only paved the way for my educational journey but has also instilled within me the resilience and determination to overcome any hurdle life presents. Her unwavering faith has not only been my guiding light but has also propelled me towards achieving my dreams in higher education.
Dr. Alexanderia K. Lane Memorial Scholarship
In a world rife with division, fueled by differences in race, religion, and sexuality, the question of why we should help others becomes more than a philosophical inquiry—it becomes a moral imperative, a beacon of hope in a landscape shrouded by hate. As we navigate these turbulent times, it is our shared humanity that compels us to transcend these divisions and extend a helping hand to one another.
Humanity's diversity is a source of richness, but it has also been exploited to sow seeds of discord. Race, a social construct that has been used to justify centuries of injustice, must not be allowed to perpetuate its cycle of prejudice and discrimination. Religion, meant to offer solace, is at times wielded as a weapon to marginalize and oppress. Sexuality, a deeply personal aspect of identity, is subjected to condemnation and hatred. These divisions tear at the fabric of our society, perpetuating a cycle of mistrust and animosity.
In this whirlpool of hostility, the importance of helping others shines through as a beacon of hope. When we extend a hand to someone from a different background, race, religion, or sexual orientation, we not only counteract the negativity that festers, but we also bridge divides and create understanding. Our acts of kindness and compassion affirm the fundamental truth that beneath these superficial differences, we are all human beings deserving of dignity and respect.
Helping others is an embodiment of empathy, the antidote to hate. It enables us to step into someone else's shoes, understand their struggles, and offer support. In a world where hate-driven narratives persist, empathy allows us to dismantle these narratives and replace them with narratives of unity and acceptance. When we stand up against prejudice and discrimination, we become champions of change and advocate for a better world.
Moreover, the act of helping others transcends individual efforts. It creates a ripple effect, inspiring others to join in and become part of the solution. Small acts of kindness, like supporting a neighbor in need or volunteering for a charitable cause, accumulate into a powerful force that chips away at the walls of hostility. These actions remind us that we are not helpless in the face of hate; we have the power to shape a more inclusive and compassionate world.
The importance of helping others becomes a moral imperative in a world plagued by division and hate. By reaching across racial, religious, and sexual boundaries, we affirm our shared humanity and challenge the narratives that seek to tear us apart. Empathy serves as a force of unity, one that has the power to dismantle the barriers of prejudice and forge a path toward understanding. When we choose to help others, we become agents of change, contributing to the construction of a world defined by compassion and acceptance.

Eras Tour Farewell Fan Scholarship
Music has an unparalleled ability to touch the depths of our emotions, allowing us to explore uncharted territories within ourselves. Taylor Swift's music, particularly during the Eras Tour, has been a transformative journey of self-discovery for me. Through her lyrics, melodies, and performances, I have unearthed new facets of my identity and gained a deeper understanding of the complexities that shape me. This essay delves into how Taylor Swift's music has been a guiding light in my path of self-exploration.
The Eras Tour marked a pivotal moment in Taylor Swift's career, reflecting her evolution as an artist and as a person. As I immersed myself in the melodies of her songs and absorbed the narratives she weaved, I found myself connecting to the themes she explored. The authenticity and vulnerability in her music resonated deeply with my own emotions and experiences, leading me to confront aspects of myself that I had previously overlooked.
One of the most impactful lessons I gleaned from Taylor Swift's music is the importance of self-acceptance. Through her lyrics, I learned that embracing our flaws and vulnerabilities is a cornerstone of growth and empowerment. As I sang along to her songs and internalized the messages of self-love, I began to let go of my insecurities and embrace the uniqueness that defines me. Her music became a safe space where I could be unapologetically myself, inspiring me to embrace my imperfections as part of a beautiful whole.
Furthermore, Taylor Swift's storytelling prowess allowed me to explore a wide range of emotions that I had previously kept hidden. Her ability to capture the complexities of love, heartbreak, resilience, and personal growth became a mirror through which I examined my own experiences. Each song provided a lens through which I could navigate my emotions, fostering a deeper connection with my feelings and enabling me to process them in a healthy and constructive manner.
The Eras Tour also highlighted the importance of adaptation and transformation. Taylor Swift's willingness to evolve and experiment with her music encouraged me to embrace change in my own life. As she ventured into new musical territories, I found the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities, knowing that growth often comes from pushing boundaries and embracing the unfamiliar.
Ultimately, Taylor Swift's music during the Eras Tour has been a catalyst for self-discovery and growth. It has helped me recognize that my journey of understanding myself is ongoing, marked by moments of revelation and introspection. Through her music, I have learned that self-discovery is not a linear path but a continuous process of learning, evolving, and embracing change.
Taylor Swift's music, particularly during the Eras Tour, has played an integral role in my journey of self-discovery. Her authenticity, vulnerability, and storytelling have allowed me to unearth hidden aspects of my identity, confront my emotions, and embrace the journey of self-acceptance and growth. Through her music, I have learned that it is through connecting with our own stories that we find solace, understanding, and the courage to embrace our authentic selves. This scholarship would not only support my educational aspirations but also validate the transformative power of music in shaping one's personal journey.
Disney Super Fan Scholarship
In a world where the boundaries of reality often limit the scope of our dreams, Disney emerges as a beacon of boundless imagination, an oasis where dreams take flight and enchantment thrives. As a passionate admirer of Disney, I wholeheartedly believe that the magic it weaves into its stories and experiences not only brings joy but also molds the hearts and minds of children around the world, fostering a sense of wonder that transcends time and place.
Disney possesses an unparalleled ability to transform even the most ordinary moments into extraordinary adventures. Through its animated films, it breathes life into characters who become lifelong friends and role models. These characters teach us to be brave like Simba, kind like Cinderella, and true to ourselves like Belle. They guide us through the complexities of emotions, and in doing so, they help children navigate their own challenges and aspirations with newfound confidence.
The vibrant worlds that Disney creates are a testament to the power of imagination. From the enchanting kingdom of Agrabah to the mysterious depths of the ocean in "Finding Nemo," these imaginative realms ignite curiosity and encourage exploration beyond the confines of reality. As a child, I marveled at the possibility of flying on a magic carpet or embarking on a journey with talking animals. Disney offers an escape from the mundane, providing children with the freedom to venture into lands where imagination knows no limits.
Moreover, Disney's commitment to storytelling is a driving force behind its ability to bring happiness to children across the globe. These stories, rich in themes of friendship, courage, and hope, inspire young minds to embrace empathy and kindness. Through characters' triumphs over adversity, children learn that obstacles can be overcome and that there is always room for growth and self-discovery.
Beyond the silver screen, Disney theme parks stand as living embodiments of the magic that the brand represents. Walking through the gates of Disneyland or Walt Disney World is like stepping into a storybook, where streets echo with laughter and music, and every corner promises new enchantment. The parks serve as real-life manifestations of the worlds that children have admired on screen, sparking their imaginations and allowing them to experience the magic firsthand.
From my perspective, Disney is not just a company or a brand; it is a curator of dreams. It instills in children a sense of possibility, encouraging them to chase after their ambitions with the same fervor that animated characters pursue their dreams. Disney's ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries makes it a global unifier—a source of shared experiences that unite children from all walks of life.
In conclusion, Disney's unparalleled ability to breathe life into the world of imagination and bring happiness to the hearts of children is a testament to its enduring magic. Through its enchanting stories, beloved characters, and immersive experiences, Disney ignites a spark of wonder that transcends generations. From my own perspective, I am grateful for the joy it has brought to my life and the lives of countless others, reminding us all that a touch of magic can make the world a more wondrous and hopeful place.

Cultivating Change: Embracing Veganism as a Black Individual
Veganism is more than just a dietary choice; it is a conscious decision that resonates deeply with my identity as a Black individual. For me, veganism is a profound acknowledgment of the interconnectedness of all life on this planet and a commitment to live in harmony with it. It is a stance against the exploitation of animals, the environment, and marginalized communities, including my own. This essay delves into what veganism means to me as a Black person and how I believe it will impact my future.
Growing up in a community that cherishes food as an integral part of our culture, I initially viewed veganism as a departure from tradition. However, as I educated myself about the multifaceted implications of our dietary choices, I began to see veganism as an extension of the values I hold dear: justice, equity, and compassion. Veganism aligns perfectly with the notion that our liberation as a community is inherently tied to the liberation of others, including animals and the environment.
To me, veganism is an act of resistance against the historical narratives that have perpetuated oppression and exploitation. Throughout history, Black communities have faced systemic injustices, including unequal access to resources and opportunities. Veganism allows me to reclaim agency over my body, my health, and my choices. By embracing a plant-based lifestyle, I challenge the narrative that our well-being is predetermined by external factors. It empowers me to make conscious choices that prioritize the welfare of all living beings, including myself.
Moreover, veganism is an embodiment of sustainability and environmental consciousness. Communities of color are often disproportionately affected by environmental degradation, a phenomenon known as environmental racism. By adopting a vegan lifestyle, I am participating in a movement that recognizes the environmental toll of animal agriculture, deforestation, and pollution. Embracing Diversity: My Journey as an African American Student
As an African American student, my journey through education has been shaped by the intersection of my cultural identity and my academic aspirations. Growing up as a member of an underrepresented minority population, I have faced both unique challenges and opportunities that have significantly influenced my path and outlook on life. This essay delves into my experiences as an African American student and how my identity has already had and will continue to impact my journey.
Being a part of an underrepresented minority population has taught me the importance of resilience and the power of representation. Throughout my academic journey, I have encountered instances where the lack of diversity in various settings has made me acutely aware of my status as a minority. However, rather than allowing these situations to deter me, I have used them as motivation to excel and pave the way for others who come from similar backgrounds. I believe that my success in education serves as a living testament to the potential that exists within marginalized communities.
The significance of representation extends beyond personal achievement. As an African American student, I recognize the urgent need for diverse voices and perspectives in every facet of society. My identity has driven me to become an advocate for inclusivity and equity, not only within educational institutions but also in the broader community. By embracing my identity and leveraging my education, I aim to contribute to the ongoing struggle for equality and justice.
Looking forward, I am keenly aware of the impact that my journey can have on future generations. As an African American student, I am not only pursuing my aspirations for personal growth and success, but I am also serving as a role model for young individuals who may be navigating challenges similar to those I've faced. I am driven by the desire to inspire others to embrace their identities unapologetically, to shatter stereotypes, and to embrace the endless possibilities that education and determination can offer.
In conclusion, my identity as an African American student has shaped me into a resilient, driven, and socially conscious individual. The challenges I've encountered have only fueled my determination to create positive change and advocate for a more inclusive society. Sola Family Scholarship
From a young age, I've been immersed in a world shaped by the unwavering determination of a single mother. My upbringing has been a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love and sacrifice. Through financial struggles, emotional challenges, and countless sacrifices, my mother's strength has guided me, molding me into the person I am today. This essay is a reflection of my experiences growing up with a single mother and how those experiences have deeply influenced my character and aspirations.
The absence of my father in our household meant that my mother was both my guardian and my role model. She worked tirelessly to provide for our family, often juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet in the early stages, but after awhile she found her way. Witnessing her tenacity and selflessness instilled in me a sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic. I learned that success is earned through hard work and perseverance, values that I carry with me in every aspect of my life.
Financial constraints often meant foregoing luxuries that many of my peers took for granted. However, this upbringing taught me the true value of money and the importance of living within one's means. I developed an acute awareness of the economic disparities around me, fostering a deep empathy for others facing similar challenges. This empathy has inspired me to seek opportunities to make a positive impact in my community, volunteering my time to support those in need.
Emotionally, my mother became my pillar of strength. Her unwavering love and support became my safe haven during difficult times. We navigated challenges together, and her guidance taught me to approach adversity with a positive attitude and an open heart. The bond we share is a testament to the resilience of a family built on love and mutual understanding.
Growing up in a single-parent household also meant taking on additional responsibilities. I became adept at managing household chores, assisting in budgeting, and caring for my younger siblings. These experiences taught me invaluable life skills, including time management, organization, and effective communication. While these responsibilities could have been overwhelming, they shaped me into a well-rounded individual capable of balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments.
My experiences growing up with a single mother have deeply influenced my educational pursuits and career aspirations. Witnessing the challenges she faced in her professional journey ignited my passion for social justice and gender equality. I am committed to advocating for policies that support single parents and ensure equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their background.
In conclusion, my upbringing with a single mother has been a transformative journey that has shaped me into a resilient, empathetic, and determined individual. The challenges we faced together have strengthened my character and ignited a desire to make a positive impact on the world. Through education and advocacy, I hope to honor my mother's sacrifices and inspire others to overcome adversity with grace and determination. This scholarship would not only provide me with the means to pursue my aspirations but also serve as a validation of the strength that can arise from a challenging upbringing.
Mohamed Magdi Taha Memorial Scholarship
As a high school graduate and aspiring college freshman, I have always recognized the importance of being an up-stander and using my voice to make a positive impact in my community. I firmly believe that societal progress and change can only be achieved when individuals are willing to stand up for what is right and advocate for those who may not have the means or opportunity to do so themselves.
Throughout my high school years, I have actively engaged in various activities and initiatives that have allowed me to be an up-stander and contribute to the betterment of my community. Whether it was participating in community service projects, joining clubs and organizations focused on social justice and equality, or even speaking up in my classes and advocating for diversity and inclusivity, I have consistently used my voice and actions to promote positive change. I understand that being an up-stander is not just about participating in big, noticeable acts, but also about recognizing the transformative power of seemingly small acts in everyday life. For example, I have always made a conscious effort to treat everyone with respect and kindness, regardless of their background or circumstances.
In college, I plan to continue being an up-stander and using my voice to help build my own community. I understand that as a student, I have a unique role and responsibility to act as an agent of change and contribute to the improvement of my campus environment.
I intend to actively engage with various organizations and initiatives on campus that align with my values and passions. These may include student activism groups that focus on important issues such as free speech, policy changes, diversity-related initiatives, and mental health support. I also plan to utilize social media platforms to amplify my voice and raise awareness about the issues that matter to me. Not only do I want to advocate for change within my college campus, but I also aspire to extend my impact beyond the university setting. I aim to collaborate with community organizations and participate in service projects that address social injustices at the individual, cultural, and societal levels. By gaining knowledge of how social injustices are manifested and experienced, actively reflecting on issues concerning oppression and privilege, and working alongside diverse communities to promote culturally relevant and holistic interventions, I will strive to make a positive and lasting impact on the larger community. And with the knowledge that I gain along the way. I'll be able to apply it in the field when I begin my career.

The song that has the most important message to me is Man in the Mirror by Micheal Jackson. It's a song that is still revelvant after 34 years and is something that people can learn from. Within our society we're so caught up in material possessions and caring only about ourselves, when it takes all of us to truely make a change, and like the song states it starts internally first. If we really want the world to change for the better we have to first work on ourselves and use that to help others. Then and only then can the wolrd be a better place for everyone.
