Bold PointsBio
Hello,
My name is Kalee Gonzalez and I am currently a dual-enrolled senior in high school/sophomore in college. I am the youngest of four kids and I am very close with each of my family members. I enjoy the outdoors and anything that has to do with wildlife and animals. I have traveled quite a bit growing up and have always found great pleasure in being immersed in different environments.
Academically, I am aiming to major in either psychology or dance. As far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated by human behavior and have always been very observant of the people and world around me. I also have always felt connected to movement which has brought up my love for dance. I have only been dancing for about three years but I have found a great passion for it. I have practiced a few different types of dance including ballet, lyrical, jazz, and ballroom and I am always looking for opportunities to try something new.
I am a good candidate because my extracurricular activities have taught me discipline and have pushed me to learn in different ways. My education has taught me patience and how to work with others, while life has taught me endurance and how to be adaptable to different situations.

Bold Nature Matters Scholarship
I have always been so fascinated with nature and the world around me and one of my passions in life is wildlife. I feel very strongly about the importance of conservation and I believe that we have the responsibility to keep our environment healthy. Animals have always been important to me and I think that they all have spirits and personalities of their own. Protecting nature and the wildlife that resigns in it has always been a priority in my life and I do all that I can to help with that. Growing up, my family and I have gone on many trips to different parts of the world from Puerto Rico to California and in every state we have traveled to, we have made it a point to appreciate and be very conscious of nature. I find myself appreciating nature by taking time each week to spend time outdoors and by contributing to any anti-animal cruelty charities or petitions. I also am always very careful when I am in nature to make sure that I clean up after myself and leave no trace as to not disturb any and all habitats or wildlife that live in them.

Since I was young, I have always felt connected with movement. I was constantly dancing whenever there was any type of noise or music and I eventually found it hard to sit still. I spent years of my life not taking a single dance lesson because I was too nervous to put myself out there and because I believed I was too old to start dancing. Once I finally forced myself to take a dance class, I knew I had found my passion. In 2019, when I was 15 years old, I started taking my first lyrical dance class with Bradenton Dance and Performing Arts Center and I loved it. A month later I was able to perform with the rest of the class and although I was nervous, it being my first time performing on stage, I was able to drown out the audience and just dance. I danced with the same studio for about two years until I started to feel like I needed to challenge myself with a more intense dancing schedule. Although I loved my first dance studio I felt like it was so laid back, which was good for me to begin with, I wasn't improving as much as I knew I could be. After some time and research, I found a new dance studio that seemed to be more suitable for my skill level, Ovation School of Musical Theatre which is where I am currently attending. I am now taking a lyrical and a ballet class and I have just started practicing on pointe. I am also taking a dance class at SCF where I have been introduced to different types of dance such as jazz, swing, and salsa.
It is hard to describe why you are passionate about something, but I do feel that I was meant to dance. When I first started dance, I could feel in my soul that I was meant to do it for the rest of my life, recreationally or professionally, and that is how I knew it was my true passion. When you are passionate about something, it doesn’t matter how good others are at it because you know you are willing to work ten times harder than them to achieve your goals. Dance has influenced my life by teaching me discipline, social skills, and self-expression and I am forever grateful for it. Because dance can be demanding, it has helped me to become more disciplined physically and mentally while helping me gain control over my body and mind. I truly feel that dance is a physical and mental art that can be used as an outlet. Socially, I have been able to work with many different kinds of people which has taught me how to work with others in ways that make sense to them. Doing this has also helped me to see different perspectives in how others view dance, movement, and music. Self-expression is something that takes time to find but once you find it, it is important to continue to express yourself in that way. My future aspirations related to dance are not very specific and are open to any opportunities. I would love to dance professionally and I have always wanted to be in a music video because I believe that dance makes music much more impactful. I would also love to perform and choreograph any dance sequences used in movies, plays, music videos, or instructional videos. Overall, I would love to inspire people, show them how individualistic and special dance can be to each person, and show that anyone can dance.
