Second Chance Scholarship
Kalani Triplett
I am seeking a second chance at higher education because I believe my past experiences have helped shape me into the person I am today, but they do not determine my future. My college journey has included challenges that affected my academic performance and personal growth, but those challenges also taught me important lessons about resilience, accountability, and the importance of taking care of myself. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my education because I now have a stronger understanding of my goals, my purpose, and the dedication required to achieve success.
During my previous academic struggles, I faced challenges with my mental health that impacted different areas of my life, including my ability to perform academically. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, discouraged, and uncertain about my future. However, those experiences became a turning point in my life. Instead of allowing those struggles to define me, I chose to seek support, reflect on my experiences, and make changes that would help me grow. I learned that asking for help is not a weakness, but a strength that allows me to become better prepared for future challenges.
Since that time, I have changed in many ways. I have developed a stronger sense of self-awareness and a better understanding of what I need to do to succeed. I have learned the importance of maintaining balance, staying organized, managing my responsibilities, and prioritizing my mental and emotional well-being. I now recognize that success requires consistency, discipline, and the willingness to use available resources. I am more prepared to communicate with my professors and advisors, seek guidance when needed, and remain committed to my academic goals.
What motivates me to continue pursuing my education is my passion for helping others. I have always wanted a career where I can make a difference, and my experiences have strengthened my desire to enter the healthcare field. My goal is to become a registered nurse because I want to provide compassionate care and support to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I understand the importance of having someone who listens, shows kindness, and makes patients feel valued. My personal journey has helped me develop the empathy and understanding needed to become the type of healthcare professional I hope to be.
I believe second chances are important because people are capable of growth, change, and improvement. A setback does not erase someone’s potential or determine what they can accomplish in the future. My second chance represents an opportunity to show that I have learned from my past experiences and that I am committed to becoming the best version of myself. I am not returning to school as the same person I was before; I am returning with greater maturity, determination, and a clearer vision for my future.
Receiving this opportunity would allow me to continue my education and move closer to achieving my career goals. I hope to use my education to make a positive impact in my community by providing compassionate healthcare, advocating for my patients, and supporting others who may be facing challenges of their own. My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, empathy, and never giving up on my dreams. I am committed to making the most of this second chance and using it as a foundation for a successful future in nursing.

Kalani Triplett
My experiences with mental health have shaped the way I view myself, my relationships, and the world around me. Throughout my journey, I have learned that mental health is just as important as physical health and that everyone deserves understanding, compassion, and support. My experiences have taught me that people often carry struggles that others may never see, which has changed the way I approach and connect with those around me. Instead of allowing my challenges to become something that held me back, I chose to use them as a source of strength and growth. They have helped me become more resilient, more self-aware, and more determined to create a positive impact in the lives of others.
During my college journey, I faced challenges with my mental health that affected my confidence, academics, and personal life. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and unsure of my ability to continue moving forward. I experienced times where I questioned my goals and wondered if I would be able to overcome the obstacles in front of me. However, those moments taught me the importance of perseverance and recognizing when it is necessary to seek help. I learned that reaching out for support is not a weakness; it is a sign of courage and strength. By prioritizing my mental well-being, I was able to begin rebuilding myself, regain confidence, and continue working toward the future I have always wanted.
My experiences with mental health have strongly influenced my goals and my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. Before facing my own challenges, I knew I wanted to help people, but my experiences gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to truly care for someone. I now understand that healthcare is not only about treating illnesses or physical conditions it is also about recognizing the person behind the diagnosis. Every patient has a story, emotions, fears, and experiences that deserve to be acknowledged. As a future nurse, I want to provide care that focuses on the whole person. I want my patients to feel heard, respected, and supported during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
My journey has also shaped the way I build and maintain relationships with others. I have learned the importance of listening without judgment and creating an environment where people feel safe being honest about what they are experiencing. I understand that everyone has their own challenges, even if they are not visible. Because of this, I try to approach people with kindness, patience, and understanding. My experiences have taught me not to judge others based on what I see on the outside because I know that someone’s struggles are not always obvious. I want to be someone who makes others feel valued and reminds them that they are not alone.
My understanding of the world has also changed because of my experiences with mental health. I have become more aware of how important compassion and empathy are in everyday life. Mental health challenges affect people from all different backgrounds, and many individuals struggle silently because they fear being misunderstood or judged. My journey has shown me the importance of creating safe spaces where people feel comfortable expressing themselves and asking for help. Whether it is through my future career, my relationships, or my community, I want to be someone who encourages others and helps create a more supportive environment.
Although my experiences with mental health have included difficult moments, they have also provided me with some of the most valuable lessons in my life. They have taught me strength, patience, humility, and the importance of caring for others. I have learned that growth does not happen overnight, but every step forward matters. My experiences have shaped me into a more compassionate individual and have strengthened my commitment to becoming a nurse who provides both medical care and emotional support.
As I continue my education and work toward my goals in healthcare, I hope to use my experiences to make a difference in the lives of others. I want my future patients to know that they are more than their circumstances and that they deserve care, respect, and compassion. My journey has shaped who I am today, and I am grateful for the lessons it has taught me. I believe my experiences have prepared me to become not only a better healthcare professional but also a better advocate, listener, and source of support for the people I serve.
Elijah's Helping Hand Scholarship Award
My name is Kalani Triplett, and I am a compassionate, hardworking, and determined individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Ever since I was young, I have always enjoyed helping people, whether it was supporting family members, encouraging friends, or simply being there for someone in need. Those experiences shaped who I am and inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. My goal is to become a registered nurse because I believe nursing is more than a profession it is an opportunity to bring comfort, hope, and healing to people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Healthcare is my passion because it allows me to combine my love for serving others with my desire to continue learning and growing. I want to care for patients with kindness, respect, and compassion while making them feel valued and heard. Every patient has a different story, and I believe everyone deserves quality care regardless of their circumstances. I hope to become the type of nurse who not only provides excellent medical care but also leaves a lasting impact through empathy and encouragement.
My journey has not always been easy. During college, I struggled with my mental health, and it affected both my personal life and my academic performance. There were moments when I questioned myself and wondered if I would ever reach my goals. I felt overwhelmed and discouraged, but I refused to let those struggles define my future. Instead, I chose to seek help, focus on my mental well-being, and rebuild my confidence one step at a time. That experience taught me that asking for help is not a weakness but a strength. It also reminded me that setbacks do not determine where you will end up they simply become part of your story.
Living through those challenges has given me a greater understanding of what many people experience every day. Mental illness is often invisible, and many individuals struggle in silence because they fear being judged or misunderstood. Because I have faced those challenges myself, I have developed a deeper sense of empathy and compassion. I know how important it is to have someone who listens, offers support, and reminds you that you are not alone. Those lessons have strengthened my desire to work in healthcare because I want to provide not only physical care but also emotional support to my future patients.
I do not believe I am more deserving than another applicant because my experiences have been more difficult. Everyone has their own struggles and unique journey. However, I believe I am deserving because of how I responded to adversity. Instead of giving up, I chose to grow from my experiences. I became more resilient, responsible, and determined to achieve my goals. Every obstacle I have faced has shaped me into someone who understands the importance of perseverance, kindness, and serving others with compassion.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my education with fewer financial burdens and move one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse. More importantly, it would be an investment in someone who is committed to using their education to improve the lives of others. I am determined to give back to my community, advocate for my patients, and provide compassionate care to everyone I meet. My experiences have made me stronger, more understanding, and more motivated than ever before. I am excited to continue my journey and dedicate my life to making a positive difference through healthcare.
