Have you ever thought about what to do for women's empowerment? I have, and here is my plan. My name is Kaitlyn, I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Louisiana. I graduated from high school in 2025 and plan to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette this fall. In my future career, I aim to be an emergency RN or a hospital RN. I chose this field because I have always been passionate about helping others. Since I was little, I wanted to be a teacher, but as I got older, the kids became more challenging. So, I realized that wouldn't be the right job for me. After considering my options further, I decided during my junior year of high school that I wanted to become a nurse. What influenced this decision was my neighbor, who is a nurse, and my parents, who encouraged me to pursue this dream.
This career path excites me because I have always wanted to help people as much as I can. As a nurse, I can assist everyone and understand their issues because when I was young, there were times I wouldn't receive a diagnosis or would be turned away at urgent care. I want to make a difference. Additionally, I aspire to be the type of nurse who changes how people view nurses, as many hold misconceptions about us, but I will not conform to that. The impact I hope to have is to help as many people as possible and be there for anyone in need.
What I plan to do to support women's empowerment is to help them when they come into the ER in pain. Many women are overlooked in the ER because doctors often assume it is just a period or cramps. If this continues, girls could end up facing more serious problems or might have something incredibly wrong that goes unaddressed. My plan, when I become a nurse, is to assist the girls or women who come in complaining of pain. I will run every test possible that I am allowed to in order to determine what is wrong. There is often a deeper issue at play with pain; it is not always just menstruation—it can indicate something serious that needs attention.
With all this said, I can't wait to begin my learning journey so I can help people who need it, especially women in need of care who are experiencing significant pain and are often overlooked.
