One series that I can't get enough of is 'Fairy Tail'. I love all of the characters (especially Happy), and all of the antics they get up to in the guild hall and on jobs. I love the slight romance between the characters, one-sided as it sometimes is, mostly with Juvia and Gray, or Happy and Carla. I also love all of the music in the episodes, and I have started learning a few songs on the piano. I love all of the interesting people the Fairy Tail members meet on their various jobs, and how many of them become beloved friends. One of my favorite story arcs so far is the Grand Magic Games arc. I enjoyed seeing the Fairy Tail members push themselves as hard as they could to achieve something no one thought possible. I also enjoyed seeing the guild members interact with people from other guilds, whether during the competition or out and about around the town. I loved seeing First Master cheer on her guild even though they didn't know she was there, and talk to Gramps about how the guild was turning out. I have loved watching the characters develop throughout the series into the people they are now, and I can't wait to see how they develop through the remaining story.
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
"For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning, just like him,
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to Daring Gryffindor.
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest,
And taught them all she knew,
Thus the Houses and their founder
Retained friendships firm and true."
-The Sorting Hat, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'
I believe I would be sorted into Ravenclaw because I believe I fit the profile of the ideal Ravenclaw student. I have also once been told I look like a young Professor Trelawney, who was sorted into Ravenclaw when she first came to school at Hogwarts.
While merely looking like a Ravenclaw student does not make me an ideal candidate for the house, displaying characteristics inherent to the students does. The Sorting Hat references Rowena Ravenclaw's desire to teach the smartest of the students, which were usually the ones with the best marks in all of their classes, and those who were capable of solving complex problems. Rowena even goes so far as to make anyone wanting access to the Ravenclaw common room and dormitories answer a riddle on the level of what a sphinx might ask. If a student couldn't answer the question, then he or she was left standing outside the common room, waiting for another student to correctly answer the question before anyone could enter. This made sure that the Ravenclaw students were always thinking about the complexities of spells and potions. If not, their dormitories would be almost off-limits to them. Though this may have been frustrating to many of the younger Ravenclaws, it would be very beneficial in their studies, further cementing their status as the best in the class.
I, too, have always been top of my class, though not because of a magical door knocker that asks me riddles before bed. I am ranked first in my graduating class, and almost always have the highest grade in the class, sometimes over 100 percent. I have never gotten less than an A in any of my classes, corresponding to a grade of an O on the Hogwarts grading system.
The Sorting Hat also references the Ravenclaw house's signature 'wit and learning' in the song it sings the year Harry Potter is Sorted. The Ravenclaws, as I stated earlier, are very smart, and do very well in the classroom, which accounts for the learning portion of the Sorting Hat's description. Wit, however, is usually described as 'mental sharpness' or being able to 'use words in a smart and humorous way'. I believe that I display both of these things, to varying degrees based on my mood and the setting. I, as I have mentioned before, have always done very well in school, and I have passed two AP tests in my sophomore year, which would be comparable to a Hogwarts student getting two OWLs in their fourth year. Even Hermione didn't get any OWLs until her fifth year, although she didn't ask to take any of the tests early. Also, in my writing, I like to put in little details that I find amusing, playing with my words to give them certain meanings.
There have also been theories that the Sorting Hat places students by which characteristics they value the most. Even with this alternate method of Sorting, I believe I would still belong in Ravenclaw. I appreciate when people have the 'humor', as well as the 'mental sharpness' to keep up with me in my classes, which allows me to have someone on my level for discussions.
