Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
Setting goals and forming a plan is crucial for achieving success, especially when it comes to personal finances and academic aspirations. My current goal is to manage my living expenses while pursuing my studies, which have a total cost of approximately $21,669.88. To accomplish this, I am considering different living arrangements and their associated costs in order to make well-informed decisions. One option is to move in with two roommates, which would reduce my monthly rent to $500. This choice not only cuts down on my living expenses but also allows me to share utilities, such as electricity and water, thereby lowering my overall spending. In contrast, if I were to move in with just one roommate, the rent would be $400 a month. Although this is slightly cheaper, having two roommates may present a greater opportunity for saving. On the other end of the spectrum, renting alone would cost $937.50 monthly, a significant financial burden that could jeopardize my ability to focus on my studies. Additionally, should I choose to remain at my current location, I would have to factor in transportation costs. Commencing daily commutes for school would cost approximately $15 per trip, twice a day, over six days a week. This adds up to around $180 weekly or about $720 monthly, making it clear that living at home would not be financially feasible either. In determining my best course of action, I must consider not only the direct costs of living but also the resources necessary to support my academic journey. In addition to housing, I would need to budget for groceries, textbooks, and other essentials. I estimate these costs would add an additional $300 each month. Thus, if I were to move in with two roommates, my total monthly expenses could reach around $800, whereas moving in alone would set me back almost $1,200. Timing is critical in this planning process, as I need to secure housing by the end of the month to ensure a smooth transition into the academic year. Each considered option includes distinct pathways toward maintaining my financial health while pursuing my educational goals. In conclusion, balancing living expenses with the financial obligations of education requires careful planning and a thorough examination of all available options. By choosing to share housing with roommates, I can alleviate financial stress and maintain focus on my studies, paving the way for long-term academic and professional success.

Setting clear goals and developing a comprehensive plan to achieve them is crucial for academic and professional success. My plan is to attend Paul Mitchell the school as a cosmetologist in the fall of 2025. This pursuit aligns with my passion for beauty and personal care. I aim to gain the skills necessary to excel in the cosmetology field, which I believe will lead to a fulfilling career. To meet this goal, I need to navigate the financial aspects involved in attending Paul Mitchell. The total cost of the program is $21,669.88, which includes tuition at $18,336.00, fees amounting to $50.00, and books and supplies totaling $3,283.88. To finance my education, I have been proactive in seeking scholarships and loans. I have successfully acquired $2,500.00 in scholarships, which reflects my commitment to academic excellence and my passion for this field. Additionally, I am eligible for $5,500.00 in student loans, which will help bridge the gap between my available resources and the total cost of the program. With a total estimated cost of $21,669.88, my scholarships and loans together amount to $8,000.00, leaving me with a shortfall of approximately $13,669.88. To manage this financial gap, I plan to explore part-time employment opportunities both during and after my studies. Working as a receptionist in a salon or as an assistant in a beauty store could provide a steady income while also immersing me in the industry. This not only helps in covering tuition but also offers valuable experience and networking opportunities. Time management will be essential as I juggle work and studies. I plan to set a weekly schedule that allocates time for classes, studying, working, and personal development activities. This structured approach will ensure that I remain focused on my education while working towards my financial goals. I will also actively seek additional scholarship opportunities as I progress through my studies. By maximizing my financial resources, I aim to minimize the need for loans and ultimately reduce my debt upon graduation. Networking with professionals in the field will also be key to uncovering potential job opportunities and gaining insights into career advancement. My goal to attend Paul Mitchell and pursue a career in cosmetology is rooted in my passion for beauty. By employing careful financial planning, seeking part-time work, and maintaining strong time management, I am confident that I can achieve this objective while setting a solid foundation for my future career.

Education is a fundamental aspect of human development and progress. It shapes individuals, fosters critical thinking, and gives the skills needed for future endeavors. Education plays an important role in personal growth. From a young age, education serves as the foundation upon which one builds their lives. It gives knowledge and skills that are essential for professional achievements. The ability to read, write, and understand concepts is invaluable in today's world. Without a solid educational background, individuals may find it challenging to navigate the demands of the job market. For me, education has been an experience that has opened doors and opportunities. Education also encompasses learning experiences, mentorship, emotional intelligence and social skills. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of holistic education, which addresses not just cognitive development but also the social and emotional well-being of learners. Programs that integrate arts, physical education, and emotional health into school curricula aim to create well-rounded individuals who can thrive in various aspects of life. Reflecting on the legacy I wish to leave, I envision a future where education remains accessible to everyone. This ambition stems from the belief that education should not be a privilege reserved for the few, but a right for every individual. The digital divide from the COVID-19 pandemic underscored this issue. I aspire to advocate for policies that foster inclusivity, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have access to quality learning experiences. I aim to promote lifelong learning as a foundational aspect of my legacy. In an era marked by rapid technological advancement, the need for continuous education is paramount. The skills that are valuable today may become obsolete tomorrow. Therefore, cultivating a mindset of lifelong learning is crucial for success in the 21st century. I hope to inspire others to embrace this mentality, encouraging them to pursue their passions and interests beyond formal educational settings. Programs that offer adult education, professional development, and skills training play a vital role in this regard, enabling individuals to adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving landscape. In addition to promoting educational access and lifelong learning, I recognize the importance of fostering critical thinking and creativity within educational environments. The complexity of global challenges, such as climate change, social injustice, and economic inequality, requires innovative solutions. Preparing future generations to address these issues necessitates an educational approach that emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. By nurturing these skills, we can empower individuals to become proactive contributors to society, rather than passive consumers of information. Looking toward the future, it is essential to consider how technology will further shape education. The rapid advancement of AI and online learning platforms has the potential to revolutionize how we access knowledge and develop skills. However, it also raises questions about equity and the potential for widening gaps between those with access to technology and those without. As an advocate for education, I hope to engage in discussions that ensure the responsible and equitable use of technology in educational settings. Education is a powerful catalyst for change and personal development. It opens doors, empowers individuals, and equips societies with the skills needed to confront challenges. As I contemplate the legacy I hope to leave behind, I am driven by a vision of equitable access to education, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a passion for fostering critical thinking and creativity. By championing these values, I aim to contribute meaningfully to a more just and informed society. The journey toward educational equity is ongoing, and I am determined to play an active role in shaping a brighter future for all.

Being a first generation college student is a wonderful opportunity that will likely shape not only my life but the lives of those around me, like my siblings, parents, and cousins. This achievement will bring a sense of pride and responsibility. It signifies breaking new ground for my family and creating pathways for future generations. The impact of this journey is both personal and communal, influencing our family's outlook on education and opportunity. Being a first generation college student in my family is a great honor, my parents have always pushed me to attend a collage, so I compromised and enrolled in a trade school. In most families, higher education is often seen as a far distant dream, sometimes due to financial constraints or lack of information about the college process, or maybe even fear of financial debt. By focusing on my college education, I serve as a role model to my siblings and cousins. I show them that it is possible to achieve this goal, encouraging them to aim high and not be limited by our family's past experiences. My success can inspire them to see education as a valuable opportunity that can lead to better job opportunities and a brighter future, including learning valuable skills. Additionally, this experience involves learning new skills and navigating new problems in life. I have to learn how to apply for college, manage finances, and balance academic work with social life. These are skills that many of my siblings take for granted, as they have family members to guide them through their experiences. I actively seek out resources, such as mentorship programs and workshops, to fill this knowledge gap. This proactive approach not only helps me but also provides insights into how I can assist others in similar situations. The emotional impact of being the first generation in my family to attend college is also very significant. There is a mixture of excitement and anxiety. As I step into this new experience, I worry about meeting expectations, student debt and whether I will be successful. My family has high hopes for me, and I feel an obligation to make them proud. At the same time, I also find support in other first-generation students, forming connections that help alleviate some of the pressure. In conclusion, being the first college student in my family is a powerful experience that impacts my life and those around me. It symbolizes hope, determination, and a shift in perspective regarding education. By pursuing my dreams, I not only work towards my future but also inspire my family and community to embrace the value of education, encouraging others to follow this path of achievement and personal growth.

Cosmetology is a trade that I am passionate about pursuing. This field allows individuals to express their creativity while helping others feel confident and beautiful. The art of cosmetology encompasses various aspects such as hair styling, skin care, and makeup application. What draws me to this profession is the ability to transform someone’s appearance and boost their self-esteem. The satisfaction that comes from seeing a client leave happy and empowered is truly fulfilling. The nature of the beauty industry excites me, as trends and techniques evolve constantly, encouraging continuous learning and innovation. Since I can remember, I have been drawn towards the field of cosmetology, more hair in particular. I’ve always been very creative, and love doing any arts and crafts including painting and drawing. Doing my own hairstyles has always been fun for me, and I’ve even experimented by cutting my own hair. I find that hair is a way for me to express my creativity and love for art, so a career in the cosmetology field would be super fun! The thought of transforming someone's appearance and making them feel beautiful is also super exciting to me. It’s always such a fun experience for me to get my hair done, because I am always so fascinated in what they are doing, mixing colors, using tin foil, it just looks so fun! I also enjoy talking to people and getting to know them, everyone’s personalities are so different and I love to discover everyone’s unique personalities. The cosmetology field also offers such a wide range of opportunities, and styles are always changing, which means I’ll always have the opportunity to further my learning and discover new cuts and trends. To me hair will either make or break someone’s look, it’s so important, and being given a chance to enhance someone’s style and look is thrilling. Confidence starts with the hair. I am also obsessed with beautiful transformations, and being able to create them, and watch them the whole way though would be exciting. Another dream of mine, is to be a mother. Although far distant in the future, being in the cosmetology field would be quite helpful, so that I can spend time raising my kids, and either work from a at home salon while they are napping, or begin work right where I left off when they start going to school each day. It would also be a good skill to have to be able to cut my own children’s hair. Throughout my life, I have faced numerous challenges, but one notable instance involved my struggle with self-doubt during high school. During this time, I found it difficult to believe in my abilities, particularly in artistic pursuits. When I decided to enroll in a cosmetology program, I faced skepticism from others who doubted my commitment and my abilities, telling me that I would never finish after I started, telling me that I would only fail. To overcome this adversity, I focused on developing my skills through practice and seeking constructive feedback. Parents, siblings and friends played a crucial role in encouraging me and helping to refine my techniques. I also engaged in community activities that emphasized teamwork and collaboration, which improved my confidence. This experience taught me the importance of resilience and self-belief, values that will serve me well in my future career.

Trades play an essential role in fostering self-reliance among individuals and communities. In recent years, the importance of skilled trades has become increasingly clear. As economies evolve and job markets shift, the skills associated with trades have proven to be invaluable, not only for economic stability but also for personal growth and community development. One of the primary benefits of trades is that they equip individuals with practical skills that are immediately applicable in the workforce. Fields such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and automotive repair provide tangible career paths that do not necessarily require a four-year college degree. This accessibility allows individuals from various backgrounds to enter the workforce more quickly, reducing the burden of student loan debt and enabling them to start earning a living sooner. In turn, this promotes financial independence and encourages self-reliance. Moreover, trades contribute significantly to local economies. As tradespeople operate businesses in their communities, they stimulate economic activity and create jobs. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, skilled trades were critical for maintaining infrastructure and healthcare facilities. Electricians and plumbers became essential in ensuring safe and functional living environments, highlighting the immediate need for trades in crisis situations. These experiences underscore the idea that a strong local workforce skilled in trades can lead to strengthened communities that are better equipped to handle challenges. It provides accessible career paths, contributing to local economies, and promoting personal satisfaction, skilled tradespeople play a crucial role in today’s society. As a child, the world of animation and voice acting captivated my imagination. Growing up in a family that cherished movies and television, I found myself immersed in a variety of animated shows. Some of my cherished childhood favorites included The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, The Pink Panther, and the classic Scooby-Doo series. Each of these programs not only entertained me but also inspired a dream to one day be part of the creative processes behind them. Animation has a unique ability to bring stories to life, creating vibrant characters and imaginative worlds that engage audiences of all ages. I often fantasized about what it would be like to animate a scene from my favorite shows or lend my voice to a beloved character. My affinity for artistic endeavors blossomed early on; painting and drawing became outlets for my creativity. Family members frequently praised my ability to visualize ideas and transform them into art. This praise solidified my ambition to pursue a career where I could channel my imagination and artistry. However, as I grew older, my career aspirations shifted. While I cherished the idea of animation and voice acting, I realized that my passion had diversified. I developed an interest in cosmetology, a field that allows for artistic expression in a different form. The world of beauty and personal care offers endless opportunities to enhance appearances and boost confidence. This career path emphasizes creativity as well, as cosmetologists use their skills to reinvent looks, blending colors and styles to create a variety of beautiful outcomes. Though I have chosen a different direction, the desire to engage with animation and voice acting has never truly faded. Even within the cosmetology field, I often reflect on how artistic foundations can translate into creating stunning hairstyles and makeup looks. The creativity and techniques used in animation—such as color theory and character design—can be paralleled with the artistry required in cosmetology. While my childhood dream of becoming a voice actor or animator has evolved, the essence of creativity remains a pivotal part of my life. The love for artistic expression is timeless and can take many forms. Whether through animation or cosmetology, the joy of creating something beautiful continues to inspire me. As I embark on my career in cosmetology, I hold onto the hope that I might still one day explore my passion for animation, contributing to the vibrant worlds I loved as a child.

Music has undeniably played a significant role in my life, influencing my emotions, behaviors, and overall well-being, especially in the contexts of work and school. Throughout my experiences, I have found that music serves as a powerful tool, helping me stay focused, reduce anxiety, and cope with stress. In the workplace, music has provided a soundtrack to my activities, enhancing my concentration. I often listen to music while completing tasks. This background noise helps drown out distractions and allows me to immerse myself in my work. The calming effect of music creates an environment conducive to creativity and efficiency. Moreover, when I encounter challenges or stressful deadlines, music often becomes my escape, allowing me to manage feelings of anxiety and maintain my composure. Similarly, my experiences in high school have demonstrated the powerful impact music can have on student life. During exam season or when faced with challenging assignments, I often turn to music as a coping mechanism. For example, listening to upbeat songs can instantly boost my mood and encourage a positive outlook. When studying, I prefer music that is calming or instrumental, which helps me concentrate better and retain information more effectively than when I'm not listening to music. Studies suggest that music with a slow tempo can lower stress levels and enhance cognitive performance, which has certainly held true in my personal experience. Music also serves as a source of emotional support during tough times. High school can be filled with social pressures and academic challenges that often lead to stress and anxiety. During these moments, I find solace in my favorite songs, which can act as a form of therapy. Lyrics that resonate with my feelings provide comfort and remind me that others have faced similar struggles. This emotional connection to music fosters resilience and encourages me to grow, enabling me to navigate the ups and downs of school and work life. In conclusion, music has been an essential part of my daily routine, contributing to my personal, work and academic success. It enhances my focus at work and serves as a vital coping mechanism during high school. By helping me manage stress, improve my mood, and often offers emotional support, music has significantly enriched my life. As I reflect on my past experiences, I am grateful for the profound influence music has had on my journey, shaping me into a more capable and resilient individual.
