Bio

I have a passion for learning and helping others achieve their potential. Through various initiatives, I have worked within my community to foster a supportive environment for intellectual growth. I took the initiative to establish a community-led K-12 book club aimed at cultivating an intrinsic love for literature while highlighting the importance of building meaningful relationships. I initiated discussions within the club that explored the symbolism and literary devices embedded in diverse genres, enriching our understanding of literature and its relevance to our lives. Recognizing the need for mentorship, I work as a teacher assistant at a school for children with special needs. I have dedicated myself to supporting students with disabilities in their educational journey, helping them practice valuable occupational skills while ensuring they receive the necessary academic support. Unfortunately, I know from second-hand experience that children with special needs tend to be overlooked in the educational system. I strive to create an environment that supports children regardless of their abilities and aims to work alongside them while they reach their full potential. Outside of academic endeavors, I also organized and maintained files with updated information and created engaging activities that promoted both learning and enjoyment among students. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the importance of accessible education and community involvement, driving my ambition to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

    Disney Channel Rewind Scholarship
Hands down, my two favorite Disney Channel shows, Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb, would result in the most epic crossover! These shows shaped my childhood and filled my days with laughter. I still watch both series with my younger siblings and many more classic Disney shows as I have taken on culturing the next generation. Without further ado, I present Total Taco Takedown: Agent P bursts through Dr. Doofenshmirtz's door, leaving a platypus-shaped hole in the wood. "Ahh, Perry, the platypus, so happy you could join me!" "Could you help me? I can't seem to open this jar to get a pickle for my sandwich." Perry opens it, and his hands get sucked into the jar, "Oh, Perry, the platypus, it seems like you're in a pickle." "You see, Perry the platypus, my family went sailing when I was a young boy, and I was forced to sleep in the crow's nest. The boat began to shake, and a vicious Kraken came out from the water! It took me with him, and I washed ashore on a deserted island. My newest Inator will summon a portal to the closest Kraken so I can cause my brother Roger the same pain." Doofenshmirtz enters the portal, and Perry sneaks through, neither realizing a second portal has opened. Phineas and Ferb sit under the tree in their backyard when the second portal appears out of thin air; they enter the portal with Candace watching from the window, "Ooo, you are so busted now!" After exiting the portal, Phineas and Ferb run into Ron stoppable at Bueno Nacho. The three boys start chatting and hatch a plan to build the largest Naco ever and run to tell Kim Possible. "Kim Kim Kim! I know what we're gonna do today!" Ron exclaims once he runs into Kim's room. "What are we gonna do? And if it is teaching you how to do a cartwheel again, the answer is no." "In my defense, the fire department said it wasn't the first time they had to rescue someone from a sewer. But that is beside the point; meet Phineas and Ferb!" After being introduced to Kim and the twins, everyone starts to work on the machine that will enlarge Ron's famous Naco. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is going through his introductions on the other side of town. Instead of taking him to a Kraken, his Inator took him to Dr. Drakken; after this, Shego decided she could only take one idiot at a time and left for the spa. The mad scientists bond over their childhood trauma and spend the day in town together. Dr. Drakken shares his desire to take over the world, and Dr. Doofenshmirtz invites him to go to the Tri-State area with him to overthrow Roger. They build a machine to reopen the portals, and Perry finds Rufus because he is also an agent for O.W.C.A., and they set out to destroy the Inator. Back at home, Candace is on the phone with her mom, waiting for the boys to enter through the portal to catch them convinced this is her chance. The mega Naco machine is finished, and the Naco is so large it causes an earthquake. Phineas and Ferb see the portal and say goodbye to their new friends. Meanwhile, the quake pushes Drakken back, and Perry pushes Doofenshmirtz through the portal. Rufus presses the self-destruct button before Drakken can enter, but Drakken and Doofenshmirtz are heartbroken. Everyone but Candace, who missed her brothers, is happy after this adventure. Especially Ron, who is still trying to finish his Naco.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Fan Scholarship
Are you Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah? Defend your choice with specific moments from the series. Hot take, but is neither an option? I want to nominate a third candidate: Cam Cameron. I'm picking "or" in the question "Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah?" I feel more drawn to Cameron and his quirks. Although he only just met Belly, he always looked out for her and stood firm in his values. But since I have to choose, I go with Team Conrad. This decision came with much thought, and I promise I can defend it. I like to win, so I chose the winning team, but first, I need to address the fact that both brothers have red flags. I do not think either boy should be anyone's ideal type because they both have room for improvement. Instead of spending time with Susana after he found out about her diagnosis, Conrad spent his time drinking his sorrows away. I know you can try to defend it by saying, "he was grieving and in pain," but so was Susana. Of course, he has a right to be upset; he didn't want to see his mother in pain and pass away. The issue is that he took that frustration out on her when she also felt that anger; she was in pain. While it isn't a reaction I support, I believe it was a great way to show that Conrad's character is not perfect. Although Jeremiah believes Conrad is "the perfect child" since he has lived in his shadow all his life. Jeremiah seems to be by Belly's side more often than Conrad, but many of Conrad's acts of kindness go unnoticed. He bought her a beautiful necklace but didn't have the courage to give it to her. He took the time to win Junior Mint for her at the boardwalk. He is the mysterious and brooding character everyone picks over their loveable friend. It feels like Jeremiah is after Belly because Conrad wants her, and if Jeremiah wins her over, he has finally beat Conrad. Did Conrad mess up when he was dating Belly? Yes, of course! But so did Belly; I think how she kissed Conrad AND Jeremiah was messed up. Conrad was mourning the loss of his mom and most likely stressed out about college because it was a huge transition. Understanding the circumstances he faced allows me to see why he reacted in specific ways. Does that justify it? No, but he could use a little grace. I can also understand how Belly felt at Susan's funeral, but that does not justify creating a scene. By the way, the secondhand embarrassment was too much for me. I had to run a mile and come back to finish the episode. Here is my final and most substantial evidence as to why Team Conrad is the winning team. Regardless of what happens, Conrad is always on Belly's mind. When they were together, Belly was on top of the world; when she was with Jeremiah, she would always think of Conrad. Belly's heart has always found its way to Conrad, but hopefully, it will finally be there at the right time. Either way, one of the Fisher brothers will be devastated by her decision, and I can't imagine how messy family reunions will be, but I am ready to see how it all plays out!
    “Stranger Things” Fanatic Scholarship
The cinematography of Stranger Things immerses the viewers throughout all four seasons, and it can be intense. When the screen fades black, and I am left with five seconds before the next episode plays, I often wonder what I would have done. Each character has a unique strength that allows the team to defeat any supernatural threat that heads their way. My dream team against a new supernatural threat would start with Jim Hopper. From the beginning of the series, he has shown persistence regardless of the obstacles, although he hesitates to look for Will. He appears to be a cop who has let himself go when, in reality, he is very astute about his surroundings. When Will's body appeared in the quarry hopper, he decided to continue investigating instead of just closing the case because he knew it was suspicious. His compassion for everyone and tragic backstory with his daughter Sarah makes me like him even more. Also, Hopper's sacrifice for his community in season 3 is another vital reason that makes him essential against a supernatural threat.  My second choice would be the iconic and essential Joyce Byers. There would be no stranger things without Joyce because she understood what was happening with Will. The flickering lights and extremely odd phone calls would have been ignored by anyone else, but she kept pushing to find the truth. I admire the attention she has for Will and Jonathon, but she has to work hard to provide for them. She is the definition of resilient and will go to the end of the world to help someone she loves (she flew to Russia in a sketchy plane to get to Hopper). Joyce and Hopper are the only adults who know the truth and truly listen to what the kids say. My final but most overlooked pick is Bob Newby's superhero. I know he died in season 2, but I am using creative discretion to make him part of my team. Bob is knowledgeable and can piece together very confusing information. If it weren't for Bob, they wouldn't have realized Will's drawings made an underground map of Hawkins, and Hopper would have died. He could recognize the parts of Hawkins and do the math to find the spot Hopper went to. Bob was the only one who knew the BASIC computer language needed to escape Hawkins's lab. Without his sacrifice, Dr. Owens, Mike, Joyce, Hopper, and Will would have died.  There are so many other characters, but there are reasons I didn't pick them. Dustin has plenty of knowledge on all things upside-down related, but he can put his desires above the general good of the party. Taking Dart, the demo dog, back to his house was not the smartest thing he could do. Lucas is persistent and focused on finding Will, but he can let his own opinion and stubbornness get in the way of his ability to work with others. The same happens with Mike; he is very focused on Eleven, and his good judgment starts to wane. Eleven has extraordinary powers and knowledge on the upside down but can let her own feelings get in the way and is usually focused on Mike. Jonathan isn't built to be part of the team without Nancy, and Will needs a break. He has been through a lot. Nancy is quick on her feet and unafraid to get involved, just like Steve, who had a beautiful redemption arc and a killer swing. I'm excited to see what else is in store for this show and where we will all go next!

The sun used to be brighter. At least when I was 10 the sun was brighter, the ice cream tasted sweeter, the days felt like 24 hours and the seniors were taller. Everything seems to hold more power to a child. I regarded every teenager with a quiet reverence and envisioned what it must be like to be 18. I was never in a rush to grow up in fact I always said I would remain young, and I decided I did not want to grow up. It became a joke in my family every birthday I had was just an excuse to eat cake because I wasn't getting any older. Unfortunately, I did get older and I hope wiser. I realize that the image I had of 18-year-olds at the age of 10 does not align with the person I am today. In some ways I feel as though I failed my younger self, I haven't provided her with the true teenage experience. Even though I deeply resonate with Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl the lyric that resonates with my teenage experience is from Teenage Dream. The song truly left me wondering "Will I spend all the rest of my years wishing I could go back?" because although I live in the present my heart is held captive in the past. I know that in the future each moment I have, and each memory I create will be craved like the sun on a cloudy day, wanted only when the moment is no longer available. There will be a point in my life when I will look back and remember THIS moment; the clacking of the keys, the red rimming of my tired eyes, and the faint sound of 'GUTS' playing from my computer while I attempt to scrape together the "perfect" words to express my feelings yet I know they will fall short. How do I know? I know because this song evokes a variety of emotions ones that can only be understood when experienced. Nonetheless, I won't let that stop me from trying. This song brings me back to reality. I realize that my life has gone by faster than I know it. Time is the sand I hold in my hand and watch slip through my fingers. I wake up check the time complete on task and check the time again only to discover that the day has ended and I am left wondering about what I did that day. Then I reflect on the days that I used to have when the time felt endless and worries were far from my mind. Although I know I have "my whole life ahead" of me I still struggle to grasp the idea that I don't have all the time in the world as I once thought I did. Knowing this I don't want to spend my present thinking back on the past and worrying about the future. I want to live life to the fullest and grant my younger self her "Teenage Dream".
