Bio

I am an outgoing and driven individual who values making the most out of life. I approach everything with hard work, honesty, and compassion, and I take pride in being someone others can trust. I have a strong love for learning and consistently challenge myself to grow both academically and personally. Throughout high school, I stayed actively involved in athletics and the arts. I played basketball all four years and participated in flag football for three, experiences that taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. At the same time, I pursued my passion for performing through school plays, taking on roles such as Princess Jasmine, Annie, and most recently Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West. These opportunities helped me build confidence, creativity, and strong communication skills. I also enjoy singing and hope to expand my talents by learning how to dance. I strive to live with purpose, positivity, and a commitment to growth.

    Sunshine Legall Scholarship
I plan to pursue a degree in mathematics so I can create meaningful change in my community. I come from an underserved area where many families live below the poverty line and access to quality education and resources is limited. Growing up in a food desert showed me how a lack of access impacts not only health, but also opportunities for financial stability and growth. These experiences have motivated me to use mathematics as a tool to uplift and empower others. Through my studies, I will develop strong skills in problem-solving, data analysis, and financial literacy—skills that are often lacking in communities like mine. I plan to give back by helping students build confidence in math, showing them that it is not something to fear, but a powerful tool that can open doors. I also want to support families by teaching budgeting, saving, credit management, and investing so they can make informed financial decisions and build long-term stability. In addition, I hope to use mathematics to support entrepreneurship in my community. By helping individuals understand pricing, profit, and business planning, I can connect math to real-life applications and show how it directly impacts everyday life and future success. I also want to help bring more businesses and essential services into my community so we can support one another. Local businesses can provide jobs for young adults and seniors, while residents help sustain those businesses. I envision a community with access to healthcare providers, such as doctors, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, and dentists, as well as grocery stores, clothing stores, and banks—everything people need within reach. By working together, we can create lasting growth and positive change. I have faced and overcome many challenges growing up in a low-income, single-parent household. There were times when consistent meals were not guaranteed, and I had to wear the same clothes throughout the week. I have also worked to rise above the expectations placed on me as the child of a mother who became a parent at a young age, including assumptions that I would follow the same path. I believe if we did this, we would have a strong community. Now that my mother, sister, and I are preparing to attend college in the fall, I am facing a new challenge—overcoming judgment, laughter, and skepticism from others who misunderstand our journey. Instead of seeing it as something to question, I view it as a powerful example of resilience, growth, and determination. One way I have given back to my community is through consistent volunteer service. For the past four years, I have worked with students with intellectual disabilities, volunteering four times each year to support their daily activities and learning. In addition, over the last two years, I have spent time assisting senior citizens with various activities, helping create an engaging and supportive environment for them.

    Williams Foundation Trailblazer Scholarship
For the past four years, I have been committed to volunteering in my community, consistently giving my time and energy to support others. Each year, I volunteered four times at a school for students with intellectual disabilities, spending approximately six hours during each visit. These experiences allowed me to build meaningful connections while assisting students with daily activities that promote independence and confidence. During my time at the school, I helped students complete recycling tasks within the building, guiding them through the process and encouraging them to stay engaged. I also assisted students during mealtimes, particularly those who needed help eating. In those moments, I learned the importance of patience, attentiveness, and compassion, making sure each student felt comfortable, respected, and supported. Additionally, I worked with students who use wheelchairs, helping them participate in activities such as bowling. By assisting them in guiding a ball down a ramp, I helped create an inclusive and enjoyable experience where they could fully engage alongside their peers. Seeing their excitement and sense of accomplishment made these moments especially meaningful to me. When I spend time assisting the students and spending time with them, I have such a warm cozy feeling in my heart. The more I spend time with them the more I believe we bond. They enjoy seeing just as I enjoy seeing and spending time with them. Beyond volunteering at the school, I have also dedicated time to working with senior citizens. On Friday nights, I volunteered at my grandmother’s senior living building, helping residents during bingo activities. I assisted them with their cards, helped call out numbers, and made sure everyone felt included and engaged. This experience taught me the value of companionship and how small acts of kindness can bring joy to others. In addition, I have supported my father in organizing our neighborhood block club event each year at the end of summer, just before the new school year begins. I helped with planning, setting up, and ensuring the event ran smoothly. This event brings families together, creates a sense of unity, and provides a positive environment for community members of all ages. Through these volunteer experiences, I have developed a deeper understanding of the importance of service, empathy, and community involvement. Whether working with students, seniors, or neighbors, I have learned that giving back is not just about helping others, it is about building connections, creating inclusive spaces, and making a lasting impact.
