I have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and it has been a challenging journey. From ages 12-18, I felt incredibly sad and alone, and it was difficult to express what I was going through to others. But, when I was 18, I finally started taking anxiety medication, which helped me manage my symptoms. Although it did not eliminate my anxiety, it was a step in the right direction toward my mental health journey.
My experience with mental health has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in profound ways. Firstly, it has made me realize the importance of mental health and self-care. I have learned that it is okay to prioritize my mental health and take the necessary steps to take care of myself. This includes everything from regular exercise to meditation, therapy, and taking medication. As a result of my experiences, I have become more committed to advocating for mental health awareness and promoting self-care in my personal and professional life.
It has also made me more understanding and empathetic towards others who may be going through similar struggles, as I know how hard it can be to cope with mental health issues. As a result, I try to approach every interaction with kindness, patience, and an open mind. I understand that everyone has a unique story, and I strive to be a supportive and compassionate listener for those who need it.
Secondly, my experience with mental health has had an impact on my relationships. It has taught me the importance of open communication and seeking support from loved ones. I have learned that it is essential to have a strong support system that I can rely on during difficult times. My mental health struggles have also made me more aware of the impact that my mental health can have on my relationships, and I try to be mindful of this and communicate effectively with those around me.
Lastly, my experience with mental health has influenced my career aspirations. It has inspired me to pursue a career in the mental health field, where I can help others who are struggling with mental health issues. I want to be a part of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and help others to feel less alone in their struggles. I believe that my experience with mental health will give me a unique perspective and understanding when working with clients who are going through similar experiences.
I have also learned to be patient with myself and to not let my mental health struggles define me. I am more than my anxiety and depression, and I am grateful for the lessons and growth that have come from my experiences. While my mental health journey has not been easy, I am proud of myself for fighting to get better every day. It has been a slow process, but I am making progress. I have learned that healing is not linear, and there will be ups and downs, but I am committed to continuing to work on my mental health and well-being.
In conclusion, my experience with mental health has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in profound ways. It has taught me the importance of self-care, communication, and seeking support. I am determined to continue working on my mental health and help others who are going through similar struggles. I believe that everyone deserves access to mental health resources and support, and I hope to play a small part in making that a reality. Thank you for giving me this opportunity at this scholarship.
