One day, Samia and I were talking on the phone conversing about our future. I was sleeping in my bed and she woke me up by calling me. She called me saying she wanted to leave a legacy and make change in our community. So I said bet and got to looking around for an opportunity. Then I saw a contest with the YMCA on this website. The objective was to come up with a change in your community. So we brainstormed and Samia came up with the idea to start an afterschool program that would teach high schoolers financial literacy. But I came up with an afterschool program to teach teens how to manage their mental health. So we decided to combine the two and submit our proposal to the YMCA. This topic is very essential for students to learn going out here in society. That’s two major principles that we need to learn and school doesn't teach us. Everyday as an adult you’re either worried about your money or your happiness. When both fields aren’t striving, you will live a terrible life. We ended up being selected to compete in Washington D.C. and compete for a grand prize of 5 thousand dollars. So once we got to the competition, we were able to talk to Gary Peters staff, Debby Stabenow staff, and Rashida Tlaib staff. First we conversed about four major problems in Michigan. Then we talked about bills we need their votes on. Lastly, we conversed on how we should give our Governor an extra push to make financial literacy a required class for high school seniors. After meeting with them, we were able to help get a bill passed making Financial literacy a required course for high schoolers signed by Governor Whitmer. On the same day of the competition, we proposed our program to the judges of the program and ended up advancing to the top five. I was super nervous because we were talking in front of a large crowd with a lot of media there taking pictures.

We had to present our program to a crowd of 400 and win their votes. We presented and ended up placing third. It was a great experience and we soon hope to bring this program to the whole state of Michigan. Then to the whole world.

Blood, Sweat, and Tears is a term familiar to most athletes. The effort and energy one pours into their craft on a consistent basis to not only get better, but to prove to others, but most importantly themselves by, that they were capable of succeeding. Artists are given the opportunity to share their work on a grand stage. Singers are given audiences of tens of thousands, artists are given exhibitions, and maestros are given full houses. I, on the other hand, was given a field. 120 yards of pure turf, lines indicating where the ball was caught, with thousands of high schoolers, parents and alumni in the crowd yelling for me to ‘score’, ‘win’, and ‘get a stop on defense’. There is no way to describe the experience as a player on the field during high school Friday Night Lights–It’s like a high The rush of defeating your opponent, the support from the audience, a sensation like no other. That's why going from experiencing that sensation, every Friday, for three months of the year, was one of the hardest tests I’ve experienced yet in life. From my freshman year up until early senior year, I had spent 12 months of the year training constantly, ensuring that I would be better than the guy to the left of me, it paid off, with me having some of my most epic successes my junior year. I was certain I was making it to the National Football League, until I wasn’t. Cass Tech and Martin Luther King High School, another local school here in Detroit, has had a rivalry existing since the young years of my great grandfather. Every young football technician dreams of playing that game, me no different from the rest. On their squad, there was one receiver who consistently defeated me. I was more than ready to exact retribution, I was driven by my readiness to exact retribution on the King High Crusaders—Only this proved to be my undoing. We lost, on national television, in front of several notable media outlets, I played the worst game of my high school career. Not only was my team defeated, I was defeated. I began to reflect on the years and months before. Who was I without football, what have I truly accomplished outside of the sport? I came up blank, and that's when I realized I needed a plan B, a sense of being without football, whichever came first. I was laying down in my bed, in the dark. I was thinking of a million dollar ideas and new goals that I want to accomplish. I came up with a new app. It’s called Sookk, the smart way to book, where you can book with any service based business in advance or on demand. I was also able to; help get a bill passed making financial literacy a required course in Michigan high schools, develop an afterschool program dedicated to financial literacy and mental health and placed top ten in a national business event at Yale.. Public speaking in front of crowds to win 5 thousand. Creating a generational app that can impact the world. Also making an impact in my community by giving back knowledge is the same, if not better, sensation than suiting up on a friday night.
