I am a high school student driven by a curiosity for how things work, especially in science and medicine. Growing up in a military family taught me discipline, adaptability, and the importance of service, which has shaped both my goals and work ethic. I plan to major in chemistry and biochemistry and attend medical school to become an anesthesiologist, a field that combines science, precision, and patient care. Through advanced coursework, leadership organizations, and community service, I strive to use my interests and abilities to make a meaningful impact on others.

Growing up as the child of a parent in the Air Force Reserves has profoundly shaped my life and inspired the goals I have for my future. My mother’s service required her to leave home regularly, sometimes for a week at a time for monthly drills, three weeks for her annual tour, or longer for training in places like Okinawa, Japan, and Atlanta, Georgia. My father worked full time throughout my life, so during her absences, much of the responsibility for our household and for supporting my younger siblings fell on me. Experiencing this dynamic from a young age taught me resilience, adaptability, and leadership—qualities that continue to guide my ambitions and future plans.
Early in my life, while my mom, brother and I were living in Tacoma, Washington, my older brother and I were separated from my dad for extended periods and had to rely on a live-in nanny to care for us. I was very young at the time, and adjusting to life without consistent parental presence was difficult. Living in that situation forced me to confront challenges earlier than most children do and helped me develop independence and responsibility. Even at a young age, I learned to manage routines, support my brother, and adapt to circumstances beyond my control.
Accompanying my mother to some of her drills in Tacoma also gave me a firsthand look at the discipline, commitment, and organization required in the military. Watching her balance demanding schedules, training exercises, and leadership roles while maintaining care for her family taught me the importance of focus, perseverance, and structure. These experiences deepened my respect for her service and demonstrated how a strong work ethic and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential to achieving meaningful goals.
Moving to La Grande, Oregon brought a more stable home environment, but the lessons I learned in Tacoma continued to influence me. Growing up in a military family inspired me to pursue a path where I can combine service, leadership, and discipline. I plan to join the United States Air Force and am preparing to do so through AFROTC in college. Observing my mother’s dedication and impact showed me that serving a greater mission requires personal sacrifice, resilience, and integrity—values I strive to embody in my academic, personal, and future military life.
Ultimately, being a child of a military parent has taught me that resilience, adaptability, and leadership are not traits to admire—they are skills to practice daily. Managing responsibilities during my mother’s absences, navigating life without consistent parental presence, and supporting my siblings while balancing school and extracurricular commitments instilled a sense of accountability that continues to guide me. These lessons have shaped both who I am and the professional and service-oriented path I aspire to follow. By joining the USAF through AFROTC, I hope to continue the legacy of service in my family while applying the discipline, leadership, and dedication I developed growing up in a military household.
