I am an incoming Biomedical Sciences student at the University of South Florida who hopes to become an anesthesiologist. At age 13, I underwent emergency brain surgery after a sinus infection spread to my brain. That experience changed my life and inspired me to pursue medicine. Since then, I have challenged myself through rigorous science courses, volunteered at Nemours Children’s Health, and worked at Forever Vets Animal Hospital to better understand patient care. I believe the greatest impact a healthcare professional can make is helping patients and families feel safe during life’s most difficult moments. Learner Calculus Scholarship
Many people think of calculus as just another difficult math class, but I believe it is one of the most important foundations of STEM because it allows us to understand and predict how the world changes. Whether scientists are studying the spread of disease, engineers are designing safer technology, or physicians are calculating medication dosages, calculus provides the tools needed to solve complex problems that improve lives.

Beyond medicine, calculus drives innovation across every STEM field. Engineers use it to design bridges, airplanes, and medical devices that are both safe and efficient. Environmental scientists use it to predict climate patterns and manage natural resources. Calculus helps professionals understand change, optimize systems, and make informed decisions based on data rather than guesswork.
As I prepare to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Florida, I know calculus will challenge me.
