My name is Kade Harnum and I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am currently a senior at Austin E. Lathrop High School. I spent my first two years of high school at Hutchison High School which is a charter school. The program I chose was the Informational Technology (IT) cluster. I spent four to five hours a week where we built our own computers, worked on cybersecurity and other IT fundamentals. The most significant community service activity that I participated in was my summer internship at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. At the hospital, I had worked as an IT intern. I'm not an athletic individual but I am a creative one. I played piano and trumpet for many years and then I started playing guitar about 4 years ago. I've been a cast member in countless productions with our local children's theater over the last 10 years and a sound technician for the past few years. I was also a mentor for the children's improvisation summer classes. During these classes, I would assist the instructors on teaching the basics of improv to local children. I work part time at a local restaurant and I enjoy gaming in my free time. I've taken several on-line coding classes and found that I really enjoy computer science. I plan on majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Cyber Security. Getting this degree would allow me to aid in the ever increasing need for people in the computer science field. I am also intrigued with Cybersecurity and this is an area of focus which has been increasingly important in day to day activities.

Hello. My name is Kade Harnum and I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. I am currently a senior at Austin E. Lathrop High School and I look forward to my next chapter in life which will be attending college full time. I spent my first two years of high school at Hutchison High School which is a charter school in Fairbanks and a "premier, career, and technical high school in the interior region of Alaska." The program I chose was the Informational Technology (IT) cluster. I spent four to five hours a week where we built our own computers, worked on cybersecurity and other IT fundamentals. The most significant community service activity that I participated in was my summer internship at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. At the hospital, I had worked as an IT intern where I would help and observe the staff in the IT Department throughout the day. I spent 15-20 hours/week for 5 weeks in this position. I helped troubleshoot issues when calls were made to the IT support desk from hospital staff and faculty and I traveled to various departments throughout the hospital to to help with PC and other hardware issues.

I plan on majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Cyber Security. My main emphasis will be on cyber security because I feel like we have an ever growing threat in our world. I really enjoyed my experience with Informational Technologies during my time at Hutchison High School and I'd like to further my knowledge in the field. Getting this degree would allow me to aid in the ever increasing need for people in the computer science field. I am also intrigued with Cybersecurity and this is an area of focus which has been increasingly important in day to day activities.
