When my grandmother picked me up from school on November 13, 2013, and told me, "Justin, your mom was in a little car accident, but she is okay," my whole world shifted in an instant. Even as a seven-year-old, my mind raced through all the worst-case scenarios imaginable. Arriving at the emergency room, seeing my mom in a wheelchair with a neck brace, I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread, despite her attempts to reassure me. The aftermath of the accident brought challenges we never saw coming. My mom's injuries, like her torn rotator cuff and post-traumatic arthritis, meant she couldn't continue her job as an Accountant for the nonprofit organization she cherished. Watching her resign, witnessing the spark fade from her eyes, was heart-wrenching. The impact rippled through our family, plunging us into both financial and emotional turmoil. My dad took on the sole responsibility of providing for us, and I quickly learned the importance of being frugal as money became tight. Helping my mom with everyday tasks, going to doctor appointments with her, and seeing her pain became my new normal. At school, I struggled with PTSD, jumping at every phone call, fearing it would bring more bad news about my mom or another loved one. I felt isolated from my friends, unable to share my burdens for fear of being ridiculed. Childhood joys felt distant as I prayed daily for my mom's recovery. Yet, amid the darkness, glimmers of hope emerged. My mom's resilience, combined with medical intervention and unwavering support from our loved ones, gradually lifted the weight off our shoulders. As her health improved, so did our financial situation. The light that dimmed in her eyes began to flicker back, illuminating our path forward. Though my mom never returned to her job, her determination to regain her health inspired us all. With faith and perseverance, we weathered the storm, emerging from it stronger and more united than ever. Through adversity, I learned invaluable lessons in resilience, empathy, and the strength of family bonds. To anyone facing similar challenges, I offer this advice: Lean on your loved ones—they are your rock. Embrace vulnerability and share your struggles; it's through connection that we find healing. And above all, hold onto hope, for it's what guides us through the darkest times. Adversity may bend us, but it also shapes us into resilient individuals capable of overcoming any obstacle life throws our way.

Hey there, I'm Justin Snead, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about how I've been able to make a positive impact on others in my community. From a young age, I've had this drive to help people. It's something that was part of my upbringing, thanks to the values my family has instilled in me and the experiences I've had growing up. One of the earliest ways I found to give back was through volunteering at my family's church. I learned to give back during youth programs, getting involved in community events, service projects, etc. I began to notice that seeing others happy made me happy. My family has also played a vital role in shaping my desire to help others. We've always been involved in charity events, from organizing fundraisers for local causes to joining in on community clean-up efforts. These experiences taught me the importance of coming together as a community to support one another and make a real difference in people's lives. One of the most impactful experiences I've had was volunteering with my grandparents to feed the homeless. Spending time with them, serving meals, and having conversations with individuals facing homelessness opened my eyes to their struggles and the importance of empathy and compassion. In addition to my volunteer work, I've been there for many of my elderly relatives when it comes to their tech needs. As technology advances, I noticed that some of them were struggling to keep up. So, I stepped in to help set up new devices, troubleshoot software issues, and provide patient guidance. It's been incredibly rewarding to see them gain confidence in navigating the digital world. And then there's my time as a governor's page, which was an eye-opening experience. Working alongside dedicated public servants gave me a deeper understanding of how government works and the impact it can have on people's lives. It inspired me to want to contribute even more to the betterment of society. Overall, being able to make a positive impact on others has been incredibly fulfilling for me. Through acts of love, kindness, and service, I've been able to touch the lives of those around me and make a real difference in my community. And as I continue on this journey, I'm excited to find even more ways to spread kindness and create a brighter, more compassionate world for all which I believe this scholarship will help me do.

Through our efforts, we hope to lay the foundation for long-term social and economic mobility. In my vision for the future, I'm driven by principles of fairness, justice, and equal opportunity. Through my education and professional endeavors, I'm committed to translating these values into tangible results. By combining business expertise with a passion for public service, I believe we can create a world where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential. In conclusion, my education is a catalyst for positive change, empowering me to address housing disparities and create opportunities for underserved populations. Hi there, I'm Justin, and I've always felt a deep calling to make a positive impact on the world. For me, this journey towards service and making a difference began early in life, shaping my values and aspirations. One of the pivotal moments in my journey was serving as a Governor's Page. It was an eye-opening experience that exposed me to the importance of public service and community involvement. Seeing firsthand how individuals can come together to address societal challenges instilled in me a sense of civic duty and a desire to contribute to the betterment of society. Volunteering at my church has also played a significant role in shaping my commitment to service. Whether it's organizing community events, assisting with outreach programs, or simply lending a helping hand to those in need, I've come to understand the transformative power of compassion and empathy. These experiences have taught me that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a profound difference in people's lives. Currently, I'm enrolled in a real estate course, and I couldn't be more excited about the opportunities it presents. My goal is to develop a real estate company that transcends mere profit-making. I want to use my skills and resources to provide affordable housing options for less fortunate individuals and families in my community. I firmly believe that access to safe and stable housing is a fundamental human right, and I'm committed to making it a reality for those who need it most. By leveraging my knowledge of real estate and my passion for helping others, I aim to develop innovative solutions that address the housing needs of underserved populations. But my commitment to service doesn't stop there. I'm constantly seeking ways to give back to my community in meaningful ways. Whether it's organizing clean-up drives, participating in food distribution programs, or volunteering at local shelters, I'm always eager to contribute positively to the lives of others. Through my work in real estate and community service, I hope to inspire others to join me in creating a more compassionate and equitable world. By embodying principles of love, faith, and service, I believe we can build stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. In summary, my journey towards making a positive impact on the world is guided by my commitment to love, faith, and community service. As I pursue my goals in real estate and continue to serve my community, I'm dedicated to creating lasting change that uplifts and empowers those in need.

Attending university holds immense significance for both my family and me—it's about more than just receiving an education; it's about breaking barriers and creating opportunities for ourselves and future generations. Education has always been a deeply ingrained value in our household, but our journey has been marked by unexpected challenges and setbacks. My dad, a man of unwavering determination and ambition, was denied the chance to complete his education. Tragically, the passing of his father thrust him into the role of provider for my grandmother and younger siblings. With responsibilities weighing heavily on his shoulders, he had to set aside his own aspirations in order to support our family. Despite facing numerous obstacles, he instilled in me the values of perseverance and hard work. Similarly, my mom's educational journey was cut short due to financial hardships. Raised by a single mother, she witnessed firsthand the sacrifices required to make ends meet. Faced with the reality of supporting her family, she made the difficult decision to leave school and contribute to our household's income. Even my brother's dreams of attending college were shattered by the financial strain resulting from my mom's car accident. With her unable to work and my dad stretched thin trying to manage our expenses, we found ourselves confronting one challenge after another. Yet, despite the adversities we've faced, I've remained steadfast in my determination to break the cycle. I am driven to be the one who fulfills our family's dreams of higher education and success. For me, attending university symbolizes a commitment—a promise to myself and my loved ones—that I will overcome any obstacles in my path. With the unwavering support of my parents, I am eager to pursue a major in Business Management at ECU. This decision isn't solely about achieving my own personal goals; it's about playing a part in realizing my dad's lifelong dream of starting his own trucking company. By obtaining a degree in business management, I hope to equip myself with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to my family's aspirations. The excitement my mom exhibits for my college journey is infectious, serving as a constant source of motivation and encouragement. Her unwavering belief in my abilities, coupled with my dad's steadfast support, provides me with the strength and determination needed to persevere through any challenges that may arise. Receiving this scholarship would be a lifeline for us, alleviating some of the financial burdens we currently face and bringing us one step closer to achieving our collective dreams. With each obstacle we overcome, we grow stronger and more resilient, forging a path towards a brighter and more prosperous future for our family.

The day my mom was in a car accident changed everything for me. As a seven-year-old, I was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty, but amidst the chaos, I learned the importance of prioritizing God first, others second, and myself third. Watching my mom struggle with injuries and pain, I knew I had to prioritize her needs above my own. I became her caregiver, accompanying her to doctor appointments and assisting with daily tasks. The financial strain on our family forced me to let go of unnecessary desires and focus on what truly mattered. Despite fervent prayers for my mom's healing, I eventually had to accept our new reality and trust in God's plan. At school, I battled with PTSD, dreading every phone call for fear of bad news. I withdrew from friends, fearing ridicule or mockery. The innocence of childhood faded as I grappled with the weight of my mom's condition. But through perseverance and faith, things gradually improved. My mom's health began to recover, and our financial situation stabilized. With each small victory, I witnessed the light returning to her eyes, and I rediscovered the joy of being a child. Looking ahead, I am committed to living out the principles of putting God first, others second, and myself last. I will continue to prioritize the needs of my family and those around me, recognizing that selflessness is the foundation of meaningful relationships and positive impact. I will rely on my faith in God to guide me through life's challenges, trusting His plan above all else. And I will forever cherish the strength and unity that emerged from our darkest hour, knowing that with God's help, we can conquer any obstacle.
