Bio

Writer first. My mind is always busy, so creativity comes naturally to me. I often find myself comfortable in leadership roles, and I work hard to get things done efficiently. I have massive stage fright, but my favorite activity is performance and entertainment. I've gotten this far, and I'm ready to push myself even further.

    Amplify Continuous Learning Grant
I'm currently assisting a good friend in the execution and release of her visual EP. I've helped with creative direction, choreography, marketing, and especially costuming. I've taken the lead in making costume alterations for the dancers, so everyone feels comfortable and looks uniform. I have experience with sewing from my time working in the costume department at McCallum HS theater. I've always loved fashion, and I've been altering my clothes from the minute I got hold of my mother's hand-me-down sewing machine. Only recently have I realized that I'd like to pursue an education in sewing and clothing design. I feel confident that I can alter the costumes for the music video I'm currently working on, but designing and creating costumes from scratch is the dream.
    Mechanism Fitness Matters Scholarship
I've always been health conscious. Growing up, my mom supported my brother and me on her own. She's a chef and would regularly make meals for my brother and me from scratch. I learned to pick foods with nutritional benefits over sugary or salty snacks, and this method formed the way I eat to this day. I don't believe in extreme diets or exhausting myself daily to lose weight. Different food groups are for enjoyment in moderation. I wouldn't eat an entire gallon of ice cream in one sitting, just as I wouldn't eat an entire head of lettuce. Contrary to popular belief: Eating healthy does not mean eating a salad for every meal. I've learned to enjoy cooking, and I put love and energy into the meals I prepare for myself. There are so many wonderfully delicious health-conscious recipes that are easy to make and only a google away! I also try not to get upset with myself for the food I do choose to eat. I've had issues with feeling guilty about my diet in the past, and it can be a tricky problem for some people. The best thing to do in that situation is to forgive yourself, make a plan to avoid making the same mistake in the future, and move on. Meal prep is one of the biggest time-savers I've ever discovered for myself and is the easiest way to keep myself from ordering take-out after a long day. Finding joy in exercise can be difficult at times, but some days are just different than others. When I begin to fall off the grind is when I notice the most difference. I usually start my days with a quick fifteen-minute yoga stretch to warm up and then decide what I want to work on from there. Without daily movement, I get brain fog, low energy, and a bad attitude. Daily exercise doesn't have to happen one way every single day. Sometimes going to the gym and lifting weights sounds like the worst thing in the world, but that just means I get to take myself swimming instead! Sometimes I don't want to leave the house at all, so I simply turn up some music and dance until I'm out of breath. Dance is the one sport I've stuck with the longest, and I love to push myself to move faster and with more confidence every time I practice. It may sound vain, but maintaining a fit body through hard work and discipline is the biggest confidence booster I know.
Kap Slap "Find Your Sound" Music Grant
I want to design and create my first visual EP. I've been studying and performing music my entire life, and I'm ready to showcase my own production. My goal through my artwork is to move people into the present moment. I want to sing words that send chills down people's spines and spread flutters through their hearts. I believe in love and blessings, and I want people to feel safe and energized when I open their minds with my sound. If I didn't have to work a day job to support myself I would spend my days visualizing and executing the pieces for my EP. Each piece will have it's own video that ties into the next, and I'm still working on the script and itinerary for each. The hard part is marketing, but if I plan to pay a team of professionals to roll out my ad campaign I can focus all of my attention on the art itself, which is really what it's all about. I'm a writer at heart, and the world is ready to hear what's been on my mind. I have notebooks full of poetry about lost connections, missing truths, and the lightning over the mountains I saw from my window in Mexico. I have hundreds of songs just waiting for me to record them, my next step is studio time.
    Traveling Artist Scholarship
Have you ever written while hanging upside down? It's difficult, I wouldn't advise trying it, but I needed to know what it was like, so I gave it a shot. I rarely sit in the same spot more than once when I write as I like to find new perspectives, so I might find a voice I haven't written in before. It is not uncommon to want to see the world. To travel overseas and discover new cultures is something every artist dreams of, so it is clear why I would be after the same thing. I've left the United States a couple of times to visit my grandmother in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico; Some of my best memories reside there. The people I met were so friendly, and the beautiful scenery was so inspiring that I could hardly put my journal down. I searched the local music shops for a handmade acoustic guitar only to fall in love with a gorgeous piece by Javier Pascual Jasso. I've written most of my music on her; When I was in San Miguel, I wrote songs about the whistlers on the street and the lightning over the mountains I could see from my window. I even challenged myself to learn some songs in Spanish. I became more fluent in Spanish after two weeks in Mexico than I had ever been in French after taking three years of French courses. After earning my associate's degree in Music Business, Performance, and Technology this semester, I plan to travel overseas for the first time. I have a vision of visiting my aunt in France and seeing the Eiffel Tower in person while I snack on a buttered croissant from the nearby patisserie. I want to smell the sweet and savory steam billowing from restaurant windows as I explore the streets of Thailand. Of course, I have a long list of places to be and things to see, but I will take an opportunity if it presents itself to me first. I'm hungry for new experiences, and my creative mind is awake and ready to be changed.

This is a screenshot of the episode of Judge Judy where I sued my landlord for PTSD therapy. Summer of 2019 held one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever witnessed. I had just moved into a new home after living with my parents, and I was ready for a fresh start. I hadn't even lived there a full month before my landlord allowed two new tenants in without warning or background checks. The second night they stayed, one brutally murdered the other in my living room while I was in the next room.
