Bio

In five years, if someone asked me what I do this would be my response. (in 30 seconds) “I am in my 5th year of my Ph.D, clinical psychology program. I primarily work with children and adolescents. I also work with immigrants and children with special needs. I help them adjust to society while still remaining who they are. I also enjoy working with immigrants helping them adjust to school and life in the U.S. When I graduated high school, I had already completed my associate's degree in psychology through dual enrollment and went on to complete my bachelor's in Psychology at CSU Northridge, class of '24. I then got my masters in Clinical psychology at Pepperdine, I was in the class of ‘26. I then continued my education and I am currently working on my Ph.D. program at UCLA, class of '32. I have also traveled to many countries and learned about many different cultures. So, what do you do?”

I am a dedicated and passionate individual currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University. My journey in psychology began with a Bachelor’s degree from California State University Northridge, where I was honored to be on the dean’s list. I have always been fascinated by the complexities of human behavior, and I strive to understand how to support individuals and families effectively. My educational background, combined with diverse hands-on experiences, has shaped who I am today. Accountability has been a guiding principle throughout my academic and personal life. I hold myself accountable through a structured approach that includes setting specific goals, regularly reviewing my progress, and seeking feedback from others. This self-discipline has been essential as I balance my studies, work commitments, and various volunteer activities. I tend not to share this but this is one of the biggest moments I have had to hold myself accountable. I finished my bachelor's degree at a young age, younger than most. I had to keep myself in check. I wanted to give up multiple times but I held myself accountable and achieved my goal. Self-reflection is another crucial aspect of my accountability. I regularly take time to assess my actions and decisions, allowing me to learn from my experiences. During my undergraduate studies, I faced a challenging course that initially felt insurmountable. I had taken on too much, to many clubs, positions, etc. Instead of allowing frustration to take over, I evaluated my time and reached out for help. By having self-care and seeking guidance, I turned my struggle into an opportunity for growth. This proactive mindset not only helped me succeed academically but also instilled resilience and adaptability in my approach to challenges. I also recognize the importance of seeking external accountability. Sharing my goals with mentors, friends, and family provides me with additional motivation to stay on track. For instance, when I committed to learning multiple musical instruments during the COVID-19 pandemic, I communicated this goal to my support network. Their encouragement and check-ins helped me remain focused and motivated, ultimately leading to a rewarding experience that expanded my creative skills. As I look toward my future in clinical psychology, I understand that accountability will be vital in my professional practice. It will be my responsibility to uphold ethical standards, continuously educate myself on best practices, and remain open to supervision and feedback. These elements will not only contribute to my personal growth but also to the well-being of my future clients. Another example of my accountability was something small. I had ordered a drink from a fast food chain and something happened and the payment was never taken but I had the drink. So, I went back and told them. This was during a drive-through so I was in a rush and to me it was more about my time than the money. But, I went back anyway because I keep myself accountable. In conclusion, accountability is the cornerstone of my success. By setting clear goals, engaging in self-reflection, and seeking support from others, I have navigated my academic and personal journey with purpose. As I continue to learn and grow, I am confident that maintaining this sense of accountability will lead to greater achievements in my future career and personal life. The skills I have developed will enable me to make a meaningful impact in the field of psychology, fostering healthier relationships and promoting mental wellness for those I serve. I still make mistakes but holding myself accountable is the first step towards becoming a better person.

In the current healthcare landscape, many patients experience a frustrating reality: the average doctor's appointment lasts only 15 minutes. This brief window often feels insufficient for meaningful communication between patients and healthcare providers. If I could implement one significant change to our healthcare system, it would be to extend appointment times beyond 15 minutes. This adjustment could lead to better patient outcomes, improved trust, and a more compassionate healthcare experience. During my childhood, I had a pediatrician who exemplified what it means to care for patients genuinely. He took the time to listen to our concerns, answer our questions, and create a supportive environment. Unlike many practitioners today, he didn’t rush through appointments; instead, he prioritized the well-being of his patients. His approach was rooted in understanding the importance of establishing a relationship built on trust and communication. Additionally, he allowed us to call him anytime with questions without the fear of being charged for each call. This practice demonstrated his commitment to our health and peace of mind, emphasizing that he cared more about our well-being than financial gain. The healthcare system has become increasingly fast-paced, with providers facing overwhelming patient loads and strict schedules. This environment often forces doctors to limit appointment times to accommodate more patients, ultimately compromising the quality of care. Extending appointment durations would foster a more compassionate healthcare environment, allowing physicians to spend adequate time with each patient. This change would enable healthcare providers to engage in deeper conversations, discuss medical histories, address lifestyle factors, and explore emotional health—all of which are crucial for holistic care. Research has shown that the quality of the patient-provider relationship significantly impacts health outcomes. When patients feel heard and understood, they are more likely to follow medical advice, adhere to treatment plans, and engage in preventive health measures. By extending appointment times, physicians can create a more relaxed atmosphere that encourages open dialogue, ultimately improving patient satisfaction and trust in their healthcare providers. Moreover, longer appointments could alleviate the pressure on both patients and providers. Many patients often feel rushed during their visits, which can lead to anxiety and confusion regarding their health issues. By extending appointment times, healthcare providers can take the time needed to address all patient concerns, ensuring that nothing is overlooked. This comprehensive approach would lead to more accurate diagnoses and better treatment plans. Additionally, extending appointment times could help reduce the frequency of follow-up visits. When providers have adequate time to address all patient concerns during a single visit, it minimizes the need for multiple appointments. This change would not only benefit patients but could also improve the efficiency of healthcare systems, allowing providers to manage their schedules better. While some may argue that longer appointment times could lead to increased costs or decreased patient throughput, the benefits far outweigh these concerns. A healthcare system that prioritizes meaningful patient-provider interactions can foster a culture of trust and compassion, ultimately leading to healthier communities. By advocating for extended appointment times, we can transform our healthcare system into one that genuinely cares for patients, recognizing that time is a vital component of quality care. At least for PCP not necessarily emergency rooms. Also, emergency room doctors and nurses should not have over 12-hour shifts as science shows lack of sleep is almost equal to being drunk.

In contemporary society, the phrase "my truth" has become prevalent, often used to express personal beliefs and experiences. While this concept encourages authenticity, it raises important questions about the nature of truth, particularly when viewed through a biblical lens. For me, "my truth," "God's truth," and "the Bible's truth" are ultimately the same, even though people often fail to follow this universal truth. The Bible presents truth as objective and absolute. In John 14:6, Jesus states, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This verse underscores that truth is not subjective; it is grounded in the person of Jesus Christ. When I reflect on this, I recognize that my understanding of truth must align with His teachings, not merely my own experiences or feelings. 1 John 3:18 reminds us to express our truth through actions: “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” This verse highlights the importance of living out our truth in tangible ways. It reinforces the idea that our personal experiences should reflect God’s truth, emphasizing that love should be the foundation of our understanding. In my perspective, the cultural emphasis on “my truth” can sometimes lead individuals away from God's truth. People may interpret their experiences in ways that distort the message of the Bible. In John 8:31-32, Jesus says, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This verse illustrates that true freedom comes from adhering to God’s word, which ultimately reveals His truth. Additionally, 1 John 1:6 states, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” This emphasizes that our understanding of truth must be aligned with our relationship with God. It is essential to acknowledge that while our personal experiences matter, they should not overshadow the biblical truth that guides us. The context of scripture also underscores the importance of community in understanding truth. Psalm 25:5 says, “Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.” This plea for guidance demonstrates the need for divine instruction in discerning truth, emphasizing that we are not meant to navigate our understanding in isolation. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 2:15 encourages believers to “be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This call to study and understand scripture reminds me that our comprehension of truth should be rooted in careful examination of God’s word. In conclusion, while "my truth" may resonate with personal experiences, I firmly believe that it must be aligned with God's truth as revealed in the Bible. The scriptures I hold dear—like James 1:18, which states, “Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth”—remind me that the ultimate truth is found in God's teachings. By grounding our beliefs in the Bible, we can navigate the complexities of life with clarity, understanding, and the freedom that comes from living in accordance with God's truth.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
Mental health is an essential aspect of overall well-being that profoundly influences how I think, feel, and act. It encompasses my emotional, psychological, and social well-being, impacting my daily life, relationships, and overall quality of life. As a master's in clinical psychology student, I understand the significance of mental health not only for myself but also for the individuals I aspire to help. I believe that mental health is vital because, as a future mental health professional, I must first take care of myself to be able to help others effectively. If I neglect my mental health, I risk experiencing compassion fatigue, which can lead to burnout and diminish my ability to support those in need. Recognizing this connection motivates me to prioritize my mental wellness. To maintain my mental wellness, I engage in various activities that promote emotional and psychological resilience. One of my favorite self-care practices is taking walks along the beach, especially during sunset. There’s something incredibly calming about the sound of the waves and the beauty of the setting sun that helps me unwind and reflect. These moments allow me to recharge and find peace amidst the busyness of life. I also enjoy painting as a way to express my creativity and emotions. Art provides me with an outlet for self-expression and helps me tangibly process my feelings. Whether it’s experimenting with colors or capturing a scene that resonates with me, helps me relax. Spending time with family and friends is another crucial aspect of my mental wellness. These connections provide a support system that fosters love and understanding. I cherish the moments spent laughing, sharing stories, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Listening to music also plays a significant role in my life; it lifts my spirits and serves as a form of therapy during challenging times. Practicing mindfulness and meditation is important to me as well. Taking a few minutes each day to focus on my breath or engage in guided meditation helps me stay present and aware of my thoughts and feelings without judgment. This practice has been instrumental in reducing stress and improving my emotional regulation. I also enjoy listening to music and singing fun songs. As well as just letting my giggles out. Moreover, I recognize the importance of setting boundaries. In our fast-paced world, it can be easy to become overwhelmed by obligations and commitments. By learning to say no and prioritizing my own time, I protect myself from burnout and maintain a sense of balance in my life. In conclusion, mental health is a cornerstone of my overall well-being. By prioritizing self-care, engaging in creative pursuits like painting, enjoying quality time with loved ones, practicing mindfulness, and setting boundaries, I can foster mental resilience and enhance my quality of life. As I embark on my journey in clinical psychology, I remain committed to maintaining my mental wellness so that I can effectively help others on their paths to mental health.

My first concert memory holds a special place in my heart. I vividly recall attending a choir performance where my aunt was one of the featured singers. I must have been quite young, but I can still picture the atmosphere—the anticipation in the air, the way the lights highlighted the performers, and, most of all, the incredible sound of my aunt's voice. Her voice stood out to me, not just because she was my aunt, but because she filled the room with emotion and grace effortlessly. I was captivated by how she commanded the audience's attention, making me realize how powerful music could be. Watching her perform gave me my first taste of live music, and this experience inspired me to explore music myself. Over the years, music has become an inseparable part of my life. I learned to play the piano as a child, picked up the violin in third grade, and added the viola to my repertoire in my senior year of high school. I also joined a choir at church and school and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, took up the guitar and ukulele. Each instrument allowed me to connect with music differently, but my favorite concert memory stands out as one of the most defining moments of my musical journey. That memory came when I had the incredible opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. It was a dream come true. Standing on that iconic stage, surrounded by world-class acoustics and the history of countless legendary performances, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe and excitement. The energy in the room was palpable, and the moment I took my place alongside my fellow musicians, I knew this would be an experience I would never forget. The performance itself was surreal. As the conductor raised their baton and the choir began, my nerves transformed into pure focus. The sound we created together filled every inch of the grand hall, resonating with a richness I had never experienced before. It wasn’t just the music—it was the history of the space, the legacy of generations of musicians who had stood in that very spot, and the overwhelming emotions that came with it. Singing on that stage felt deeply emotional as if we were all part of something much greater. We had musicians from around the world performing together, which only added to the magic of the experience. But one of the highlights was performing with just my high school choir, led by our teacher. To make it even more special, Deke Sharon, a legend in the a cappella world, was there. I had never had an experience like this in my life. I can’t even find the right words to describe how I felt—the emotions were everywhere. Yet, as soon as the music began and we started singing, it was as if I was in a trance. The music took over, and the entire performance felt like pure magic. It’s a memory that will stay with me forever.

Over the years, I've actively supported others with their mental health challenges, drawing from both personal experiences and academic insights. One notable instance involved a close friend who had recently immigrated. Despite not formally diagnosing her, I recognized signs of paranoia and depression. Sensing her reluctance towards professional help, I gently encouraged her to consider therapy without disclosing my informal diagnosis. When she eventually agreed, the therapist confirmed my observations, and I continued to provide emotional support by helping her navigate therapy homework and offering a listening ear during her journey to recovery. Additionally, I've played a supportive role within my family during times of grief. When we lost a loved one, I was there to offer comfort, facilitate discussions about our feelings, and provide practical assistance as we navigated the grieving process together. Looking forward, my studies in MFT/Clinical Psychology and aspirations for further education in a PhD/medical program will equip me with deeper knowledge and skills to effectively support others emotionally. I aim to integrate evidence-based therapies with a compassionate approach tailored to cultural backgrounds and individual needs. My goal is to specialize in working with children, adolescents, and immigrant populations, leveraging my understanding of cultural nuances to provide inclusive and accessible mental health care. Through my future career, I envision creating safe spaces where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being. Whether through individual therapy sessions, community outreach programs, or global volunteer efforts, I intend to advocate for mental health awareness and resilience-building practices. By fostering open dialogue and reducing stigma, I hope to inspire others to seek help proactively and cultivate a supportive environment for mental health within diverse communities. Ultimately, my journey is driven by a deep-seated commitment to making a positive impact on the emotional well-being of those around me. By combining clinical expertise with empathy and cultural sensitivity, I aspire to contribute to a world where mental health support is accessible, respected, and integral to holistic well-being.

Travel has always been more than just a leisure activity for me; it's been a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. My first significant travel experience took me to Egypt, a trip I had eagerly planned for years. This journey was not just about visiting iconic landmarks or lounging by the Red Sea; it was a profound exploration of my own heritage and culture. Walking through ancient temples and bustling markets, I felt a deep connection to my roots, learning about traditions and histories that shaped my identity. However, what truly expanded my worldview was venturing into the low-income areas of Egypt. Witnessing firsthand the stark contrasts between wealth and poverty opened my eyes to the realities faced by many Egyptians. It was a humbling experience that challenged my perceptions and instilled in me a profound empathy for people living in different socio-economic conditions. Since then, my passion for travel has only deepened. While I have not visited numerous countries yet, each trip has been meticulously planned to maximize cultural immersion and learning. My curiosity about different cultures and religions has led me to explore places of worship, even while grounded in my own faith. These encounters have been enlightening, offering insights into diverse beliefs and practices that enrich my understanding of humanity. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned through travel is the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Whether navigating the bustling streets of Cairo or finding hidden gems in Paris away from the tourist crowds, each experience has pushed me to adapt and grow. In Paris, a layover taught me the value of flexibility as I ventured into non-touristy areas, gaining a glimpse into everyday life that tourist attractions often obscure. Egypt remains the cornerstone of my travel experiences, leaving an indelible mark on my perspective. The richness of its culture, the warmth of its people, and the complexity of its history continue to resonate with me. This profound connection has shaped my desire to further explore and understand global inequalities and societal challenges, as evidenced by my observations in Hawaii, where I witnessed unexpected poverty amidst its luxurious facade. My time in Hawaii was eye-opening. Often romanticized as a paradise of pristine beaches and lush landscapes, I sought to explore beyond the tourist veneer. Venturing into local neighborhoods revealed a stark contrast to the opulence often associated with the state. It was a poignant reminder of the socio-economic disparities that exist even in seemingly idyllic destinations. This experience deepened my commitment to addressing social justice issues and advocating for equitable opportunities for all. Looking ahead, volunteering abroad in various countries is not just a dream but a concrete goal. As I continue to explore and learn, I am committed to leveraging my experiences and education to create positive change, both within myself and in the communities I hope to serve.
