After recently becoming a widow I realized that being a parent ment sacrificing everything and making choices for my daughter. I was all she had left. My choices needed to be for her first. This choice ment starting a new job field at the local elementary school helping students with disabilities. This allows me to be home with her when she does not have school. Her mental health needed that. She needed that from me. She needed me home not at work and her in daycare. The drive to help her is what has pushed me the most. I want to go back so I can continue to work the school year only with her letting us spend the time we have together off of school. Life isn't a given we sadly learned and I want to make the most of that. I want to pursue a bachelor's in psychology with a focus on childhood and adolescent Development. She is also neurodiverse as well so I hope this degree will help me in the classroom, at home, and in supporting my family by being able to move up in my position. I will either work as a behavioral technician in the classroom or even as a substitute teacher for our district. I also hope to one day be able to use my degree to volunteer and help others who have been in this situation with young neurodiverse children who have been through a severe loss. Even if it is just helping their parents know they can do it too and life can move forward and get better. So that is how becoming a parent has changed my life and pushed me to go back to school, and has pushed me to better myself and my education so that I can financially support myself and my daughter.
