My name is Julian Dior Anderson. I live in Christiana, PA and I am a Senior at Octorara Senior High School, raised by my single mom, who works long hours as a massage therapist to support my grandmother, younger sister, and me. I help by working as a busser at Chili’s. Life hasn’t been easy—diagnosed with autism at age two, I was non-verbal until first grade and struggled socially, often facing bullying. Through therapy, I’ve grown stronger and now maintain a 3.98 GPA. I plan to study computer science and engineering at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. My dream is to use technology to improve lives and give back to my family. Scholarships awards would help me focus on my studies and honor my mom’s sacrifices by achieving the future she’s always believed I could reach.

Hi, my name is Julian Anderson and here is a little short story about my younger sister finding out I am leaving for college soon. When my sister found out I will be going away to college in the fall, she reacted like I had already packed my bags and moved across the country. We still have months left, but apparently that detail doesn’t matter to her.
Every time Millersville University comes up, she says things like, “So I guess I’ll just be on my own now,” even though I’m literally still sitting right next to her. And "I am turning your room into my own art studio, don't worry, I will keep your bed in there for when you come to sleep over." She’s convinced that once I leave to study computer science, she’s losing her personal tech support, emotional check-in person, and the one sibling who can reach the top shelf where mom hides all the good snacks. She has even started asking me questions like, “What would you do without me?” "When can I come over to visit you?" as if she’s trying to make me stay.
I would be the first in my family to ever attend a university. I have been meant with lots of challenges of my own, you see I was a non-verbal child until my 1st grade in school and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at age two. Because of my inability to communicate, interacting socially has always been a struggle for me, and have been bullied because of it. I decided I would focus all my energy in my studies and stop listening to all the bullies. It has not been easy, I have to say at one point I was depressed because of this, I really wanted to connect with people, just do not know how.
That’s one of the reasons I want to study computer science at Millersville. I plan to develop an app focused on bullying prevention and suicide awareness—something that checks in on users, offers support, and helps people feel less alone. My sister jokes that I’m already overthinking it, which is true, but overthinking is kind of my superpower.
Financially, things have not been easy. My mom’s income supports all of us. With increasing living expenses, it is difficult for my mom to save for educational costs. We do not have additional financial support from my father or other family members, other than my grandma, she helps as much as she can. I understand that much of my education will depend on financial aid, scholarships, and my own efforts through part-time work.
Receiving any type of financial assistance would make a significant difference in helping me achieve these goals. It would ease the burden on my mom allow me to focus more fully on my studies and bring me closer to building a stable and successful career in computer science.
Even though I’m not leaving until the fall, my sister has already started “pre-missing” me. She keeps reminding me to call, text, and “not forget where I came from.” She even said, “Promise me you won’t replace us with robots,” which feels slightly unfair considering I’m going into computer science.
I haven’t left yet, but I’m already preparing for what’s next. And while my sister may not be ready for me to go, she knows I’m going for a purpose—and that makes the waiting a little easier for both of us.
William L. Keltz Engineering Scholarship
Hi, my name is Julian Anderson, and I am honored to be able to apply for this scholarship. I was raised by my single mom, who always works hard to provide for our family despite many challenges. She works long hours as a massage therapist and I help by working as a busser at Chilis Restaurant. We live together with my grandmother and my 11-year-old sister. My mom is the sole provider for our household, balancing multiple responsibilities while ensuring that we have a safe home, food on the table, and always encourages me to pursue my dreams. Her strength and determination have always inspired me, especially because she desires to see me continue my education and build a better future for myself.
I would be the first in my family to ever attend a university. I have been meant with lots of challenges of my own, you see I was a non-verbal child until my 1st grade in school, and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at age two. Because of my inability to communicate, interacting socially has always been a struggle for me, and have been bullied because of it. I decided I would focus all my energy on my studies and stop listening to all the bullies. It has not been easy, I have to say at one point I was depressed because of this, I really wanted to connect with people, just do not know how, but through therapy I am working on my social skills and getting better. Well despite all of this I maintain a GPA of 3.98.
I am interested in pursuing a career in engineering because of my strong passion for technology and its ability to positively impact society. I am fascinated by how computers, programs, and innovative solutions can solve real-world problems. In particular, I hope to combine computer science and engineering to create applications or programs that help stop cyberbullying, an issue I understand personally. Engineering allows me to turn my ideas into tools that can protect others, improve lives, and create meaningful change through technology.
My high school experiences have taught me resilience, discipline, and determination. Despite challenges related to autism, bullying, and financial hardship, I learned to focus on my education and persevere. Maintaining a high GPA while working part-time showed me the importance of hard work and time management. These experiences have prepared me for the demands of college and my future career, and they motivate me to continue pushing forward, overcome obstacles, and use my education to support my family and give back to others.
Receiving financial assistance would make a significant difference in helping me achieve these goals. It would ease the burden on my mom allow me to focus more fully on my studies and bring me closer to building a stable and successful career in computer science.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Jack Terry’s story inspired me because it reflects the strength, courage, and determination I have seen in my own family especially in my grandmother, who was also an immigrant. Although their journeys were different, both faced the challenge of starting over in a new country with very little and an uncertain future. Like Dr. Terry, my grandmother came to the US seeking safety and opportunity. She arrived with limited resources, unfamiliar with the language and culture, yet she worked tirelessly to build a better life for herself and her family. Growing up, I watched her persevere through hardship with resilience and hope, values that shaped who I am today. She taught me that adversity does not define a person how they respond to it does. I was raised by my single mom, who always works hard to provide for our family. Her strength and determination have always inspired me also, especially because she desires to see me continue my education and build a better future for myself. I have a strong desire to study computers and technology, as I am fascinated by how innovation can change lives and open doors to new possibilities. I hope to one day use my education to support my family, help my sister follow her own dreams, and make my mom and grandma proud by showing her that all her hard work was worth it. Receiving financial assistance would make a significant difference in helping me achieve these goals. It would ease the burden on my mom allow me to focus more fully on my studies, and bring me closer to building a stable and successful career in computer science. Sincerely, Julian Dior Anderson

One of the biggest challenges I have faced is living with autism. Growing up, I often felt different from others my age. Social situations, communication, and understanding expectations did not always come easily to me, which sometimes made school and friendships difficult. There were moments when I felt frustrated or misunderstood, and I questioned whether I truly belonged.
I overcame this adversity by learning more about myself and developing strategies that helped me succeed. With the support of my family, teachers, and mentors, I learned how to manage challenges by staying organized, preparing for new situations, and asking for help when I needed it. Over time, I gained confidence and realized that my differences did not define my limits. Instead, they taught me how to work harder, stay focused, and keep pushing forward even when things felt uncomfortable.
This experience has shaped me into a stronger and more determined person. Living with autism has helped me develop patience, resilience, and a unique way of thinking. I have learned to see challenges as opportunities to grow, and I am proud of the progress I have made. These experiences have motivated me to set goals for my future and believe in my ability to achieve them.
To anyone facing similar circumstances, my advice is to never give up on yourself. Your path may be different, but that does not make it any less meaningful. Ask for support and remember that adversity can help shape you into the person you are meant to become.

My special education support teacher helps me a lot with my learning because I have autism. They are patient and explain things in a way I can understand. When work feels hard, they help me break it into smaller steps so it feels easier.
They also help me stay organized and calm when I feel overwhelmed. Because of their support, I feel more confident asking for help and trying my best in class. Their help makes learning better and helps me feel successful at school.

Her strength and determination have always inspired me, especially because she desires to see me continue my education and build a better future for myself.
I would be the first in my family to ever attend a university. I have been meant with lots of challenges and adversity of my own, you see I was a non-verbal child until my 1st grade in school and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at age two. Because of my inability to communicate, interacting socially has always been a struggle for me, and have been bullied because of it. I decided I would focus all my energy in my studies and stop listening to all the bullies. It has not been easy, I have to say at one point I was depressed because of this, I really wanted to connect with people, just do not know how, but through therapy I am working on my social skills and getting better. Well despite all of this I maintain a GPA of 3.98.
I am looking to pursue a career in computer science and engineering, at Millersville University in my home state of Pennsylvania, where I was accepted to attend this Fall 2026. It has always been my dream to learn more about technology and how it can benefit children with Autism, like me. What excites me most is the idea that I could one day be part of creating these solutions to help the ASD community. I want to use computer science and engineering to design programs or systems that make learning easier and more enjoyable for autistic children. Knowing that something I build or code could help someone feel understood, included, and capable motivates me to continue pursuing higher education.
Despite these struggles, my mom has always made it clear that education is the best way to success and a good future for myself. Her sacrifices motivate me every day to work hard and make the most of every opportunity I am given.
Sincerely,
Julian Dior Anderson
Gail Lynne Huber S.T.E.M. Scholarship
My name is Julian D. Anderson, and I am a high school senior at Octorara Middle School in Atglen, PA. I plan to attend Millersville University in Fall 2026, where I have been admitted to the Computer Science and Engineering program. What interests me most about STEM is how it can be used to help people especially autistic kids like me.
To me, STEM is not just about learning math formulas or writing lines of code. It is about using those skills to solve real problems that people face every day. Growing up autistic, I have experienced challenges in communication, learning, and feeling included. Because of that, I am especially interested in how technology and engineering can be used to create tools that support autistic children and help them succeed in school and beyond.
Through STEM, we can develop apps that support communication, educational programs that adjust to different learning styles, and tools that make classrooms more accessible and engaging. Technology has the ability to meet students where they are, instead of expecting everyone to learn the same way. This is important for autistic children, who often learn best when lessons are interactive, visual, or personalized.
I am also interested in how STEM can help create more inclusive environments. Simple innovations—like assistive devices, sensory-friendly technologies, or software that helps with organization and focus—can make a big difference in a student’s confidence and independence. When autistic kids feel supported instead of misunderstood, it opens the door for them to reach their full potential.
What excites me most is the idea that I could one day be part of creating these solutions. I want to use computer science and engineering to design programs or systems that make learning easier and more enjoyable for autistic children. Knowing that something I build or code could help someone feel understood, included, and capable motivates me to continue pursuing STEM.
STEM is meaningful to me because it combines creativity, problem-solving, and purpose. It allows me to turn my personal experiences into opportunities to help others. By pursuing a future in STEM, I hope to contribute to a world where autistic children have access to the tools and support they need to succeed, both in school and in life.
I cannot wait to start my journey at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, and I pray I can have some financial help along the way with scholarships that could help me achieve my educational goals.

It has not been easy, I have to say at one point I was depressed because of this, I really wanted to connect with people, just do not know how, but through therapy I am working on my social skills and getting better. Well despite all of this I maintain a GPA of 3.98.
I am looking to pursue a career in computer science and engineering, at Millersville University in my home state of Pennsylvania, where I was accepted. It has always been my dream to learn more about technology and how it can benefit society. It is my dream to create an app or program that can aid in stopping cyber bullies.
Despite these struggles, my mom has always made it clear that education is the best way to success and a good future for myself. Her sacrifices motivate me every day to work hard and make the most of every opportunity I am given.
Sincerely,

My goal is to build a successful career in computer science by developing innovative software solutions that improve people’s lives and solve real-world problems, such as cyber-bulling. I have been bullied all of my life because of my ASD but I decided I would focus all my energy in my studies and stop listening to all the bullies. Maybe someday I can develop an app or program that can aid in stopping cyber bullies. It has not been easy, I have to say at one point I was super depressed because of this, I really wanted to connect with people, just did not know how, but through therapy I am working on my social skills and overcoming my depression. Well despite all of this I maintain a GPA of 3.98. I am looking to pursue a career in computer science and engineering, at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. It has always been my dream to learn more about technology and how it can benefit society.
Despite these struggles, my mom has always made it clear that education is the best way to success and a good future for myself. Her sacrifices motivate me every day to work hard and make the most of every opportunity I am given.
Sincerely,
Julian Dior Anderson
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
I was raised by my single mom, who always works hard to provide for our family despite many challenges. She works long hours as a massage therapist and I help by working as a busser at Chilis Restaurant. We live together with my grandmother and my 11-year-old sister. My mom is the sole provider for our household, balancing multiple responsibilities while ensuring that we have a safe home, food on the table, and always encourages me to pursue my dreams. Her strength and determination have always inspired me, especially because she desires to see me continue my education and build a better future for myself.
I would be the first in my family to ever attend a university. I have been meant with lots of challenges of my own, you see I was a non-verbal child until my 1st grade in school and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at age two.
