My dad, is who I call my father figure. There was never a moment where he hasn't been there for me. He has always been socially awkward, and words were never his strong suit, but his actions have proven his care nonetheless. His unwavering presence that has shaped the very foundation of my life. While others might recount tales of grand adventures or dramatic gestures, my story is woven from the simple, everyday acts of devotion that painted my childhood with security and love.
One of my most vivid memories is of the daily ritual of school runs. In the crisp morning air, or the humid afternoon heat, he was always there, his familiar car a beacon of reliability. Those drives weren't just about transportation; they were a sanctuary. In the quiet hum of the engine, he’d listen patiently to my childish ramblings, offering gentle encouragement or a thoughtful question that made me feel seen and valued. He never treated my youthful concerns as trivial, but rather as important milestones in my growing understanding of the world. Those drives instilled in me a sense of dependability, a quiet assurance that no matter what the day held, there was a safe harbor waiting. There was once a time in pre-school where I ran the opposite direction of where he was standing, because I was so sleepy and tired. He let me take a nap and joked about it all day.
His presence wasn't just a matter of convenience; it was a demonstration of commitment. He understood the importance of showing up, of being a constant in a child's life. He didn't just drop me off and pick me up; he used those moments to connect, to understand my world, and to impart subtle lessons about responsibility and care. He taught me, without ever explicitly saying so, that true love is found in the everyday acts of service, in the quiet consistency that builds trust and security.
That dependability became even more profoundly clear when I was involved in a car accident when I was 17, with his car. The shock and fear that gripped me in those moments were overwhelming. But as soon as he heard, he was there, a solid presence amidst the chaos. He didn't berate me for my mistake; instead, he focused on my well-being, his calm demeanor a soothing balm to my frayed nerves. What was even more significant was the fact that he dropped everything, rushing to get to me. He didn't hesitate, didn't consider the material cost, only the urgency of being there for me in my moment of need.
That incident wasn't just about a car; it was a powerful testament to his unwavering love and sacrifice. It taught me that true strength isn't about physical power or grand gestures, but about the quiet courage to put someone else's needs before your own. He showed me what it meant to be a protector, not through heroic feats, but through the simple act of being present, of showing up when it mattered most.
His legacy isn't written in grand pronouncements, but in the quiet, enduring impact he has had on my life. He is the steady hand that guides me, the quiet voice that encourages me, and the unwavering presence that reminds me that I am never alone. He is my father figure, and his love is the foundation upon which I build my life.
Achieve Potential Scholarship
Receiving this scholarship is crucial because it directly fuels my ability to embody this vision of empowerment, allowing me to break down barriers and create opportunities for myself and future generations.
Growing up as the only child of a low-income immigrant family, my mother has been my primary source of inspiration. Her journey, marked by hardship and resilience, has taught me the importance of perseverance and the enduring power of legacy. As an Asian-American, I initially perceived her drive for my academic excellence as pressure, but I've come to understand it as an act of profound love and unwavering belief in my potential. When I faced challenges, like the stress of exams or a car accident, she was there, not with judgment, but with unwavering support and comfort. This scholarship is vital because it allows me to honor her sacrifices by pursuing my education without the crushing burden of financial strain, enabling me to focus on excelling and making her proud.
My desire to achieve financial stability isn't merely for personal gain; it's rooted in a deep-seated commitment to provide a better life for my family. This scholarship will alleviate the financial obstacles that could hinder my academic pursuits, opening doors to opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible. Furthermore, my experiences in environments where women are actively empowered, such as my all-girls high school and the "Girls Who Code" program, have ignited a passion within me to advocate for gender equality. Witnessing the strength and leadership of women in positions of power has shown me the transformative impact of challenging societal norms. This scholarship will empower me to continue this advocacy, allowing me to dedicate my time and resources to creating a more equitable world.
The financial support this scholarship provides will not only enable me to focus on my studies but also empower me to become a role model for young women. My aspiration is to achieve a stable career, gain financial freedom, and ultimately, inspire and lead the next generation. By investing in my education, you are investing in a future where I can pay forward the support I've received, empowering others to break through barriers and achieve their dreams.
In essence, this scholarship is not just about funding my education; it’s about investing in the potential to empower myself and others. It's about creating a ripple effect of positive change, ensuring that future generations of women have the opportunities they deserve. Your support will enable me to build a legacy of empowerment, one that echoes the strength and resilience of the women who have paved the way for me.
Empower Her Scholarship
To me, empowerment transcends the definitions of perseverance and achievement. It is a concept like a tapestry woven with threads of personal agency and the belief in one's worth. Ultimately, we use our cultivated strength to recognize our own potential and uplift our peers.
I was born and raised as the only child of a low-income immigrant family. The female figure who has led me all my life was my mother, inspiring me through her stories and hardships. Empowerment lies in the deep roots of legacy, passing the torch through generations. As an Asian-American, I always saw my mother as someone who would force me to excel in my academics, but I knew she meant well. When she saw me stressed during my exams, she always comforted me, telling me that it was okay, and never pressured me to do anything I did not want to do. When I had my first car accident, she dropped everything rushed to me, and embraced me when I was filled with tears. Even though she had always motivated me to strive for better, she has not shown me her care, shaping the person I am today.
I want to strive, and work hard to provide my family a life where we are living financially stable and free. This encouraged me to achieve academic success. Whether it was at work, or at school, I wish to assist others, especially in a world where women are looked down upon.
At work, all my managers are women, showcasing their leadership and power. At school, there are all girls. I go to a High School where we are an exclusively all-girls school, full of brave girls who have become powerful women leading a community that is just. There were many cases where my school has advocated for justice, as the former all-boys school down the street used to have higher-level classes, indicating that we were inferior to them, as we were not as intelligent as them since we were women.
Furthermore, I once took a coding program from "Girls Who Code." It was a coding program that connected us with a game design made for girls who seek to learn code, which is usually a male-dominated field. All of these experiences have inspired me to have the confidence and motivation to want to do things that will improve me and the family that has loved me all my life.
One day, I wish to achieve the financial freedom I have always dreamed of, have a stable career, and inspire and lead the future generation of leading women.
