Since I was very young, I was introduced to the art of music at the age of 10 years old in my country of birth, which was Bogota, Colombia. It started because my parents wanted to help me find my passion; they tried first with sports like soccer, tennis, hockey, and swimming. But for me, I didn't find it entertaining or found it something I enjoyed doing. So my parents decided to try music to see if maybe that could be my passion, so they signed me up to a school academy close to where I live and started trying many instruments to see which one interested me the most. I tried instruments like the piano, bass, violin, and flute. But the one that took all my attention was the guitar and from there I started learning.
I was part of the academy for a couple of months until my parents decided to take me out for economic reasons that they were facing in Colombia, but this didn't stop me from learning the instrument. I started self-teaching myself the art of guitar and fell in love with it. Something about how rewarding it feels to get a chord right or play a whole song just made it fun and I enjoyed it very much. From there, I started to learn many songs and it felt amazing to show my old friends my skills; many of them would enjoy it and be impressed by my skill. That feeling made me feel confident and good to make people enjoy music, something that made me chase music even more.
After a couple of years, around 4 years later, when I had just turned 14, my parents decided to move to Florida, United States, to start a new life here since in Colombia we were having trouble economically. It was hard for me to move, leaving all my friends that supported me, but musically it was great since the middle school I was going to start attending, called Falcone Cove Middle School, had music classes as extra classes, something that in Colombia we didn't have. From there, I was introduced to many genres of music that started taking my attention, like rock, blues, R&B, and jazz. I was amazed at how complex music was getting with time, especially with music like blues and jazz and I wanted to learn more about it and I was about to since the high school that I was going to attend had a jazz band program. Joining in my freshman year was one of the best things I did since I ended up falling in love with jazz and how complicated but beautiful it was, and since then to my senior year, I've been playing and still learning jazz and other genres like funk, bossa nova, and fusion.
To this day, I still love music and I want to continue learning more and playing for many more people that enjoy music. My goals today are to improve my music skills and to play with different bands or even start creating new music to be released. I plan to go to college and study another field that interests me, which is computer science, to go into a career in data analytics, but I'm not planning on stopping with music. Music is now part of my life and I'm sure it will always be since it left a huge impact on me and introduced me to a new world of colors and arts that I love.
