I am a senior in High School, and I will be pursuing an automotive career path at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Austin, Texas after I graduate from high school in 06/2024. I am an only child who grew up in a single-parent home in San Antonio, Texas. Growing up, I saw my mom working multiple jobs to ensure I had everything I needed. She did this while helping others in need. Because of my upbringing, providing service to others is very important to me, so I plan to integrate this into my career. I have been actively creating a pathway to attain my goal of becoming an automotive technician for the last two years. I am unable to afford school though, so I'm planning on working & applying for scholarships/loans. After I finish school, I want to open up a mechanic shop to help others who are starting, so they may have a place to work while in school or fresh out of school, and a place where they may get experience, guidance, and mentorship. Since I have not always had this in my life, I would like to provide that for others who may need it. If I were to get this gracious support from your organization, you would be allowing me an opportunity to achieve my career goals, but more importantly, you would be helping me to do the same for others once I am established. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.

I am currently a senior in High School, and I will be pursuing an automotive career path after I graduate in 06/2024. I am interested in this particular trade because I love working with my hands, creating, and figuring things out. Both my uncle and my grandfather are automotive mechanics and both own their businesses, so they have been an influence for me. Since I was very young, I have loved learning how to figure things out. It is something that just draws me in, and allows me to be with a machine and decipher it. I love it. I currently do not belong to any groups that involve automotive classes in school, and since my family members who are mechanics do not live in the same town as me, I do not get to work with them. I have, however, been a part of the construction class in my high school since 9th grade. As I mentioned, I love to create, am very creative and artistic and I find it fascinating to sit with machines (I have only worked on small ones as of now, though) and figure things out, see how they work, and how to take them apart, and how to put them back together. I have worked on building projects in my construction class and it comes easily to me. It is a form of expression for me. I feel that working with machines/automobiles will allow me the opportunity to continue doing things that promote creativity and the opportunity to build/create/fix/and learn. I have been actively creating a pathway to attain my goal of becoming an automotive technician. I attended a campus visit at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Austin, Texas around November 2023 to get information, visit the campus and get a tour of the classes/programs/etc. I enrolled in November and was accepted already. I received my notification of acceptance on 12/04/2023. I also already signed up for the housing program to ensure that I have an apartment and my living situation already set up before I graduate from high school. I spoke with the financial aid office about ways to pay for my schooling, and it may seem that I may not qualify for much financial aid or Pell grants. The plan is to apply for scholarships, loans, and work. I looked into employment opportunities already since I will be moving from San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas and would need to ensure I work at least part-time. I spoke to the Student Services office about employment opportunities that are available to students after commencing my classes at UTI. I plan to continue my certification once I graduate from the Automotive Program so I may pursue the Master Mechanic Certification. Once I have this, I am planning to see about working for Porsche or Lexus. I am looking into these two, as one is in Texas and one is outside of Texas so that I have the option to stay or leave my home state when the time comes. I researched their programs, and I am interested in learning more about specializing in their car models, they provide job security and they offer tuition reimbursement programs. This would allow me to outline how I can grow and excel in my career path after I graduate from UTI. The adult who knows me best is my mom. If you were to call her, she would recommend me for this scholarship because I have integrity, passion, tenacity, and more importantly the want to help others. I want to pursue my goals, and although the monetary part is the challenge I am currently facing, I know I will overcome it. She would recommend me because I also have a passion for service and to help others. After I achieve my goals for my career path, I want to open up a mechanic shop to help others who are starting out, so they may have a place to work while in school or fresh out of school, and a place where they may get experience, guidance, and mentorship for this type of career. I have not had those things myself, as I did not grow up with a paternal figure, and have had to seek this out with extended family and others to access guidance and support in the automotive realm. This has been challenging for me, but it promotes grit and character, so it is ok. If I were to get this gracious support from your organization, you would be allowing me an opportunity to achieve my goals, but more importantly, you would be helping me to do the same for others once I am established. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.

My name is Juan Carlos Rodriguez. I am only child from a single parent household. Growing up, I saw my mom who is a therapist, work so hard & sacrifice a lot to ensure I had everything I needed. She instilled in me values that I will carry with me forever, such as perseverance, work ethic, gratitude, helping others, kindness, and respect. I also saw how the support system we had in place, such as my uncles and grandparents kept my mom going and pushing forward. This all has helped influence me with how I perceive my world and how I want to help others when I meet my goals in the future. My goal entails me enrolling at Universal Technical Institute in the automotive program to become a Master Technician specializing in automotive services. I have been surrounded and influenced by both my maternal uncle and by my maternal grandfather. They are both mechanics and have had their shops and businesses for many decades. My uncle, who is 38 yrs old, has been a mechanic for 24yrs and has had his own business for 8yrs. My grandfather has been a mechanic for about 50yrs and has had a successful business for about 45yrs. Both of these great and important men in my life have showed and instilled in me the importance of work ethic, dedication, and helping others. This has all been significant in my life, as I want to do the same. I want to become a mechanic because it is a passion of mine to work with my hands, and creating and figuring things out is something that I really enjoy. It also allows me an opportunity to help others, which is very important to me. Working on cars gives me an opportunity to do just that. I want to follow in the footsteps of both my uncle and grandfather and start my own business after I become Certified. I plan on starting an automotive business, not just to be an entrepreneur, but to help others who are wanting to follow the same career path as mine. I would love to help students get financial assistance and experience while they are in school, and help new graduates find employment and guidance after they graduate. Not everyone can afford school or qualify for financial aid like me, so having financial support during your schooling is not only important, but necessary. I know it will be challenging for me; however, I am planning on getting a job, and getting as many scholarships and grants as I can, before determining the need for loans. If I am able to get support from you, I will not take the opportunity or assistance for granted. I would want to do the same for others one day too. I would want to facilitate the process for others who find themselves in the same situation as me, who really want to pursue a career, but have financial struggles that may interfere with going to school. I thank you for the opportunity for me to apply for this scholarship, and I promise that if I am granted with your scholarship, I will ensure I pass onto others the same grace and support provided to me. Thank you for your time.
