Amelia Boynton and S.W. Boynton Scholarship
Amelia Boynton Robinson-Civil Rights Leader, played a major role in making sure that women and especially people of color had the right to vote. She married Samuel William Boynton in 1936 after meeting him again while she was studying at the Tuskegee Institute. They joined forces educating the African American poor of their voting rights. Robinson used her gift of playwriting to share stories. She pursued a Congressional seat in 1964, she was one of the “civil rights leaders to lead the famous march across the Edmund Pettit Bridge,” she then went on to fight for the rights of all humanity which propelled her into positions of achieving and receiving more awards and accolades “promoting civil and human rights.”
Without their impact I may not have been afforded the right to vote. When I reached the voting age in 2020, there were not only COVID-19 issues but there were definite election challenges. One of those challenges brought concern as to whether or not a registered voters ballot would count. Year after year, our democracy needs to make sure that the right to vote any elected official won’t be hampered in any way. Although my health was directly affected by COVID-19, I was encouraged and motivated to not let challenges within and without not stop me from achieving the desires and dreams I’m aiming for. Supporting those with the same vision as Amelia Boynton Robinson and Samuel William Boynton ensures that the right to vote will be fair and accessible for all.
I will make a positive impact on the world through voting rights, civil rights, and equal opportunities for all by first being an example in my own community. Easily, I do this by voting. I am also committed to being a part of the process-being available to work the polls when I can since most of the poll workers are older poll workers who have been there for years, and I will continually remind my peers that hard work does pay off. My recent accomplishment of breaking my school’s 100 meter record attest to this.
