I have lived in Fenley my entire life and I can confidently say that the community in Fernley has supported me throughout every stage of my life and has shaped me into the person I am today. Growing up as a child I discovered many hobbies and met so many of my current friends through the extra curricular activities offered in the town and the schools. For example, I met some of my closest friends through AYSO soccer and we grew closer by playing soccer during recess and joining the running club at Cottonwood Elementary School. Then all the amazing teachers I met along the way that, through their teachings, have allowed me to become the student and person I am today. These same teachers have also helped me get through very dark periods of my life and I am very grateful for them. I also love giving back to the Fernley community through offering my time to coach a youth soccer team and be a referee. I am also thankful for the Jumpstart program offered at Fernley High School, as in partaking in the program I discovered that I want to become a mentor of some sort for kids who are going through similar challenges that I went through. I have enjoyed living in Fernley and I will carry growing up in Fernley proudly, as I wouldn’t be who I am today without the community this town provided for me.
By obtaining this scholarship it eases out the burdens of costs I will be facing. I am attending the University of Nevada, Reno this upcoming fall, which will be a little pricey. I was also admitted into the Honors college at UNR, but it does come with a fee that adds onto the cost. On top of this, I was raised by a single mother, who I unfortunately have had a falling out with and has led me to seeking an apartment in order to move out. I have been working for the past year and a half and have raised some money, but the majority of it is being spent on buying my basic needs and sometimes having to pay for bills, so it's hard to save a substantial amount. The Community of Fernley has already done substantial things for me and carried me through every stage of my life. In receiving this scholarship it would feel like as if it was one final sending off gift before I go and leave the nest Fernley has provided to me.
