I am a licensed counselor and currently studying for my doctorate. My main goal is to help my community. With many years of study, training, and practical experience, I am dedicated to offering caring therapy to people facing life's difficulties. Besides my therapist work, I enjoy going beyond just therapy sessions. I like to write, hold workshops, and educate the public. I want to make simple guides that help people understand and care for their mental health. Right now, I am studying how anger affects our minds and bodies. I aim to turn what I learn into helpful healing and personal growth tools.

LGBTQ+ Wellness in Action Scholarship
Thank you for giving me the chance to apply for this scholarship. My mental and physical health is very important because it helps me be there for myself and for the people I help. My well-being affects how well I can support others as a therapist, teacher, and Ph.D. student. I have learned that mental and physical health are closely connected—when one suffers, the other often does, too. Taking care of myself is important for my happiness and gives me the energy to help others. When I was younger, I faced bullying, which taught me how important it is to take care of my mental health. During those tough times, I often felt alone and like nobody understood me. But instead of letting those moments bring me down, I used them to become stronger. These experiences made me more caring and helped me connect with other people who have gone through similar tough times. In my work, I see how important it is to create safe places where people feel accepted and valued. I needed this support when I was younger, and now I want to give that same support to others.
However, being a Ph.D. student can be very challenging for my mental and physical health. The hard work in school, research projects, and job responsibilities can feel like too much. Balancing classes, therapy work, and personal life often leaves little time for rest. The pressure to do well can cause stress and make me doubt myself, which makes it hard to focus on self-care. The emotional nature of my work as a therapist also requires me to reflect on my feelings and set boundaries to prevent burnout.
I have learned to be mindful of my well-being to balance my life. I stay active, practice mindfulness, and connect with supportive people to manage stress and stay grounded. I tell myself that resilience, which means recovering from difficult times, is not something we are born with. It develops when we understand ourselves better, receive help from others, and show kindness to ourselves. Just like I encourage my clients to care for their health, I must also ensure my well-being.
Connecting with others is very important on this journey. We thrive when we feel understood and supported by those around us. The relationships we build can improve or harm our self-worth. That's why I am around genuine, positive, and supportive people. I believe in being open, honest, and focused on personal growth, and I try to build relationships that encourage healing and well-being.
As I continue my Ph.D. studies, I see education as personal success and a way to help more people. My studies improve my ability to assist others, refine my therapy methods, contribute to research, and advocate for mental health awareness. I want to use my education to empower individuals, share important insights, and create lasting change in mental health.
Every challenge I have gone through, personally or in school, has made me more committed to my goals. These experiences show me why I want to help others feel better. I am grateful for this journey and will keep sharing my story to encourage others. I want them to find their strength, build resilience, and create happy lives filled with connection and acceptance of themselves.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Thank you for allowing me to apply for this scholarship. My experiences with bullying when I was young have changed who I am today and guided my work as a therapist. The tough times I went through in my childhood influenced how I see the world, believe in people, and connect with others. I felt isolated due to being bullied. I felt alone and misunderstood. Instead of letting these experiences bring me down, I used them to grow and learn. They have given me a strong sense of empathy, which has helped me connect with others facing similar challenges.
This understanding is a big part of my work. I know what it feels like to be ignored and disconnected from others. These feelings are very heavy and feel insurmountable. But I also know that healing is possible. I have been committed to helping others find their way to recovery and acceptance. I have worked to create a safe space where others feel seen, valued, and understood—something I needed when I was younger. I want to provide the support I once wished for, helping others see their worth and find their inner strength.
Resilience is not something I was born with; I have grown over time with help from others. Resilience is recovering from hard times, moving forward despite problems, and finding purpose during tough moments. It is a skill anyone can develop, but it requires support, understanding, and self-acceptance. No one should have to face struggles alone. People face life's challenges when they have a safe place to express their feelings.
Human connection is very important in this process. We do better when we feel understood and supported by others. The relationships we form can either boost or weaken our self-worth, so it's important to surround ourselves with genuine and supportive people who want to grow. I believe that emotional safety matters in my relationships. I value being real with others and seek connections with people who are open, honest, and willing to improve themselves. These kinds of relationships are essential for healing, growth, and well-being.
As I am finishing my Ph.D., I see it as a key step in my journey—not just for me but also to help me assist others more meaningfully. My studies have further helped me understand how people act and improve my skills as a therapist. Education is not just for me; it is a way to make a bigger difference in the world. I want to use what I learn to help my clients better through publishing and conducting research that potentially changes lives.
My past experiences drive everything I do. They help me remember why I chose this path and make me more determined to help others. Every challenge I have faced has brought me here, and I am grateful for this journey. Through my work, I will encourage others to see their strength, find ways to heal, and build happy lives full of connections and skills to cope with difficulties.

Debra S. Jackson New Horizons Scholarship
My experiences have been shaped by my strength, clear goals, and a strong wish to help others. As a licensed counselor, I work hard to support people during tough times and help them find healing and inner strength. Continuing my education now feels like a natural step in this journey. I want to grow, reach more people, and promote mental health, especially in the Latinx community.
Growing up as a member of the Latinx community, I witnessed the complexities of cultural identity, generational struggles, and the stigma surrounding mental health. My early experiences taught me the importance of caring for others, not giving up, and helping people. Throughout the years, I have worked with many different groups of people, providing therapy in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. This has helped to make therapy easier for everyone to access and understand. However, I recognize that to create meaningful, systemic change, I must continue learning and developing new tools to respond to the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities.
My goal in getting higher education is more than just a personal dream; it is a mission. I want to help improve mental health services for people who often do not receive enough support, especially in the Latinx community. I want to make it easier for everyone to get care and to create places where people feel listened to, understood, and strong. My work in studying anger, writing books, and my podcast, The Wandering Clinician, all support this big goal: to teach, inspire, and help make mental health support more inclusive and caring for everyone.
This scholarship would play a crucial role in helping me achieve these goals. Going to school for a higher degree while working can be hard and expensive. With this support, I can focus more on my studies, improve my research, and better help my community. It will also help me create new programs that support people who often feel left out of mental health talks.
My education is important not just for me but for many people who need easy-to-understand mental health care. I want to use what I learn to teach future doctors, push for better laws, and continue giving high-quality mental health services that everyone can understand. By helping me with this scholarship, you also support the well-being and strength of the communities I work with.
I care a lot about this work and am excited to use my education to make a positive difference.
Viaje de Esperanza Scholarship
Growing up in the Latinx community, I have seen the challenges and strengths of people dealing with life in a world that often does not understand their experiences. These experiences have motivated me to become a mental health professional focused on helping Latinx individuals and families. I have worked with people in my community for many years, providing support in Portuguese and Spanish. Through this work, I have learned how important it is to offer kind and accessible mental health care to those who might feel ignored or invisible.
Language helps us connect, and providing services in different languages allows me to reach clients meaningfully. Many Latinx people have a hard time getting mental health care. They face problems like feeling ashamed, money issues, and not enough doctors who understand their culture. I help by offering services in their languages and respecting their cultural differences. This makes getting care easier and creates a safe place to feel appreciated and supported.
I am driven by the belief that healing and growth happen when people feel recognized and understood. The Latinx community is diverse and strong, but many members deal with problems like trauma from the past, stress from adjusting to a new culture, and the mental strain of unfair treatment in society. I aim to be an advocate and a helper for my clients, guiding them through these challenges while respecting their identities and strengths.
As a mental health professional, I am dedicated to improving my knowledge and skills to make a bigger impact in the Latinx community. Providing care that respects culture is about speaking the language and listening carefully, honoring personal experiences, and working together to create healing paths that fit each person's values and life. Throughout my career, I want to help build a future where mental health care is more welcoming, available, and supportive for Latinx individuals and their families.
Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
Throughout my entire adult life, I have been fueled by the passion to make a difference in the lives of individuals who are suffering from mental health or personality disorders. I was initially drawn to the field of education because of my passion for teaching. The idea of shaping young minds and equipping them with knowledge and skills excited me. However, it was during my time working at an inner-city school that I understood the tremendous need to address mental health in the educational system and society.
I was confronted with a heartbreaking reality as I entered the classroom daily. Many of my students dealt with psychological pain, struggling with anxiety, depression, and even post-traumatic stress disorder. They carried burdens from home to school, and it became increasingly clear to me that simply teaching them academic subjects without supporting their mental health needs was counter-intuitive. There was an urgent necessity to address their mental health needs as a fundamental prerequisite to their overall well-being and academic success. Expanding upon this realization, I undertook a journey to explore the intersection of mental health and education. I sought professional development opportunities, attended workshops, and conversed with experts in the field. The more I delved into this subject, the more I understood the profound impact mental health has on a student's learning, growth, and thriving ability. I went back to school and earned a counseling degree. After graduating, I worked with a diverse range of populations, each presenting their unique challenges and opportunities for growth. From working with vulnerable children in school settings to reaching out to the homeless in our communities and providing support for those transitioning from hospitals, jails, and board and care homes, I have witnessed the transformative power of compassion and understanding. I have had the privilege of conducting small group and individual counseling sessions that have truly made a difference in the lives of individuals who have been victims of trauma. My patients have faced unimaginable challenges, ranging from physical, psychological, and sexual abuse to accidents, wars, natural disasters, community violence, and even acts of terrorism. Each individual's story is unique, yet they share a common thread of resilience and strength.
I have also been privileged to work with disenfranchised individuals who have been marginalized and overlooked by society. These people have often faced a myriad of challenges, including poverty, discrimination, and lack of access to basic necessities. Through individual counseling sessions, I have aimed to provide them with a safe space where their voices can be heard and their experiences validated.
In these sessions, I explored their narratives, identifying the strengths and resilience that have helped them survive adversity. I aimed toward setting achievable goals and implementing strategies that empower them to overcome their circumstances and create positive change in their lives.
My experience has reinforced my belief in the incredible resilience of the human spirit. I helped trauma victims rise above their circumstances by providing a safe space, validation, and empathy.
I am dedicated to utilizing my extensive education and hands-on experience to craft personalized therapeutic approaches that empower my clients to regain control of their lives and find lasting healing and growth.
VNutrition & Wellness’ Annual LGBTQ+ Vitality Scholarship
To Whom It May Concern,
My objective is to extend mental health support, including therapeutic services, to individuals within our community who identify as LGBTQ++. It is no secret that members of the LGBTQ++ community face unique challenges and struggles when it comes to their mental well-being. Discrimination, prejudice, and stigma are great contributors to higher rates of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and even suicidal ideation, so this is why I plan to provide education and mental health services to increase their mental well-being as well as the necessary support and resources to ensure that they are happy and successful.
I have earned my license as a therapist in California and Texas. During my career, I have been fortunate to witness the transformative power of therapy firsthand. The ability to support individuals in their journey towards mental and emotional well-being has ignited a deep passion within me. Each day, I am inspired by the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I am motivated to take my education and training to the next level by pursuing a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. By obtaining a Ph.D., I will not only enhance my professional practice but also open doors to new opportunities and advancements in my field. With a doctoral degree, I will gain a deep understanding of the subject matter and develop advanced skills that will allow me to contribute significantly to the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
A Ph.D. will give me the expertise and credibility to tackle complex issues and make meaningful contributions to my field.
I decided to pursue a Ph.D. in counseling psychology to expand my knowledge and enhance my skills as a therapist. I passionately believe continuous learning is essential to providing the best possible care for my clients. By embarking on this stringent academic journey, I will have the opportunity to engage in advanced coursework, conduct innovative research, and collaborate with esteemed professionals in the field. This will not only broaden my theoretical knowledge but also help me grow as a critical thinker and expand my analytical skills necessary to address complex psychological issues and contribute to advancing the field. My goal is to become a well-rounded and highly competent psychotherapist who can make a significant difference in the lives of those seeking help.
By obtaining a Ph.D., I will elevate my professional practice to new heights and make a lasting impact on the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
