Using My Talent to Serve God and the Church Ever since I can remember I've had a heart for music and helping the homeless. I used to bang on pots and pans when I was a baby, and when I got my first drum-set as a toddler I only made more noise. The less fortunate also piqued my interest. I would see people, and still do see people, on the side of the road or under bridges and always think to myself, "why do people just drive by them and rarely give them anything?" I didn't know, but I knew I wanted to help. When I got older and into my early teen years, I became a Christian and I knew even more so that giving to the less fortunate is incredibly important. But even while that was on my mind, as I began to mature, people poked me with questions on my interests or opportunities and the like. Those questions got me to think on what I wanted to do to make money and what I would do with that money. Throughout the years of pondering and trying to answer the question of what I would do to make a living, I went through multiple phases. I went from wanting to be a construction worker to a soccer player to a YouTuber, I may have even considered being an artist. But (long story short) I decided on being a drummer and using that skill to lead worship in Christian establishments. As I grew in my Christianity, I began to understand that using what I have for God is much more fulfilling and rewarding than any grand goal or dream I could think of for myself, even if I got paid less. I was able to experience that fulfillment of serving God through music at my second gig for a church's middle school summer camp, and it was fantastic. I then had a great revelation, not only could I make a living serving God and the church through music, but I could also use that money to help those that are less fortunate. Plus, I could help them at a greater degree because I'll have more resources to give! This revelation gave me a great sense of peace. It felt like I had finally discovered a career direction that was more than just how much money I'd make a year. This would be my goal I decided! A lifestyle that serves God, the less fortunate, and the church! I am looking forward to the future with great anticipation. Music can take you places you never thought you'd go. I just know that wherever I end up playing, there will be those in need. God will provide opportunities for me to not only tend to their physical need, but their spiritual need for Christ as well. Someone that motivates you so intensely to succeed. So much so that you can’t form words to describe the effect this person has on you. They help you see that you have a purpose, and that you were made for more. They've unconsciously shown you your potential and you can’t wait to reach it. This woman has made me see that there’s more to life, there are good things waiting for me, I have much growing to do, and that the journey will be difficult but rewarding. This woman is my future wife. No, I don’t have a fiance and I haven’t met the person I’m going to marry yet (at least I don’t think I have;). But the idea of getting married is one of the most blessed and daunting things I’ve ever thought about. As the man in the relationship, it is my job to provide for her emotional, financial, caloric, and even spiritual needs. This monumental yet beautiful responsibility has made me determined to “put away childish things” if you will, and get to work. My dream is to be a worship drummer and use my talent to bring glory to God, and provide for my wife. But to be more personal this role I have as the man in the relationship goes much deeper than purely materially providing. I am a Christian, and as such, marriage is not only a devotion to the lady of whom I am marrying, but also to God. When I marry I am saying to her and more importantly to God that I will die to myself for the benefit of my wife each and every day. How could the reality of that commitment not inspire me to reach my dreams? I want my wife to have a home she loves to be in and come back to. Let’s be real, these things cost money, and usually a lot of it. Buying a house, a car, having an emergency fund, good insurance, paying bills, gas money, it adds up quickly. I don’t have to be the richest person on the planet, but I refuse to give my future wife anything less than my best. Not only do I want to provide for her, but I want to treat her with special gifts and outings. The last thing I want for her is to be so busy helping me provide for the household that by the end of the day, we’re both too tired to spend any time with each other. I want her to be able to relax, knowing that I’ve got things taken care of and she doesn’t have to stress about anything extra.
