Big Picture Scholarship
Hello, my name is Josie Sutter. Thank you for your consideration for the Big Picture Scholarship. One of the movies that had a great impact on my life is, Once I Was a Beehive (2015). I come from a family where I am the third of seven children. We could not afford to go to the movies, so we would stream on Netflix a movie every Friday and watch it together as a family. The movie, Once I Was a Beehive, is about a non-Mormon girl that attends an all girls Mormon camping trip for a week. This movie was so funny! Characters included the never campers, the forced-to-goes, the over-achievers, girls that needed emotional support because she have no close friends and leaders that are super excited to share the experience. In the beginning, most of the girls dislike each other, then through trials they learn to work as a group and loved the experience.
My parents have shown us how to work hard to achieve our goals. Since kindergarten I have pursued my passions in Girl Scout. I have earned lifelong bonds with other girls in my troop and earned awards for social change. I earned the Bronze Award by creating a literacy project for young children and the Silver Award for promoting awareness to our local government regarding positive environmental self-sufficiency. I am currently working on my Gold Award targeting social justice.
I understand the importance of giving back to my community and other youth. Weekly I volunteer as a Sunday school staff at Lives Changed by Christ, with 2–3-year-old kids and yearly at my church’s middle school youth summer camp. I’ve maintained a cumulative GPA between 4.0 and 3.7. This year I took dual enrollment classes at Robert Morris University and Beaver County Community College. I have 6 college credits, and I am currently taking an English Composition course. That will make 9 credits before I enter Millersville University. My favorites clubs are National Honor Society, Environmental Science and Crochet. I have been accepted into the Honors program at Millersville University.
When I think about to watching the movie, I Was Once a Beehive, at the time it reminded me of my family. We are not members of the Latter Day Saints, but everything else really fit how my life was at the time. I was a Girl Scout and we went camping at least twice a year since I was in 1st grade. I believe I am the over-achiever. I wanted to gain the best experience out of the camping trip as possible. My twin sister was the kid who did not want to be there and was willing to show it to everyone! My younger sister is a fashion-forward individual and hated the outdoors. My older sister at the time was going through a Goth/Outsider phase, which was a character in the movie, and my Mother is and was our troop leader. The adults in the movie reminded me of her, ready to give us the most amazing experience ever, whether we wanted to or not! I think, I Was Once a Beehive had such an impact on my life because I could see myself and my family in the characters. It showed me, at a young age, that people can be different from each other and that is okay. We can learn things from people that are different from us. Plus always know there is a bright side on the horizon.
Thank you for your consideration. Earning this scholarship will sincerely help in pursuing my future education without the heavy debt burden

Last year, I joined Freedom Guard, a competitive indoor color guard team and we won gold in Wildwood, NJ! I plan to join the marching band at Millersville University also.
I understand the importance of giving back to my community and other youth. Therefore, weekly I volunteer as a Sunday school staff at Lives Changed by Christ, with 2–3-year-old kids and yearly at my church’s middle school youth summer camp. I also work as a math tutor for middle school students.

Area 51 Miners Sustainability and Geoscience Scholarship
Hello, my name is Josie Sutter. Thank you for your consideration for the Area 51 Miners Sustainability and Geoscience Scholarship. I am currently a 12th grader at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. What I love about cyber school is that we obtain a vigorous education while being able to pursue our passions outside of school.
My parents understood the need for a thriving education in today's world. They knew it would help to expose us to a wide variety of experiences that will help us discover our passion. My parents have shown us how to work hard to achieve our goals.
As you read more about my background you will see I have several different passions. I enjoy the Creative Arts. I am starting my own crochet business. I design pottery. I am on the high school color guard team and an independent indoor competitive team. I am very passionate about Environmental issues and plan to join the social justice fight in college. At Millersville University I am keeping my educational options open for the 1st year of school as an Exploratory major. This will allow me to truly focus on a career path that allows my talents to bloom. I have discussed picking a major with several different adults. Most have assured me that for the first year of college I should allow myself to explore options and there is not a rush to decide my career path. In fact, I have been told by several people the Explorative major will allow me time to find my focus.
Since kindergarten I have pursued my passions in Girl Scout. I have earned lifelong bonds with other girls and attempted programs for social change through various Awards levels. I earned the Bronze Award by creating a literacy project for young children and the Silver Award for promoting awareness to our local government regarding positive environmental self-sufficiency. Through Girl Scouts, I enjoyed learning new things with the girls in my troop. We went camping and I believe that started my fondness for the outdoors and concern for the environment. I became older and understood how social injustice can be just as impactful to environmental injustice. I earned my Silver Award, the highest award a 6th-8th grader can earn, by petitioning my local Borough Council to allow backyard chickens to help with environmental sustainability. Backyard chickens allow families to raise pets for emotional support, increase self-sustainable lifestyles and are often used in home gardens. I am currently working on my Gold Award, the highest Girl Scout award, targeting youth pregnancy and social justice. I hope to work with students my same age on the reasons behind teenage pregnancy and how to break the cycle of social economics in relation to the outcome of teen pregnancy.

CJM Rampelt Family Legacy Scholarship
Josie Sutter. Thank you for your consideration for the CJM Rampelt Family Legacy Scholarship. I am currently a 12th grader at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. What I love about cyber school is the vigorous education while being able to pursue our passions.

I personally feel I have always desired to make a positive change in society. I see so many ways where women are not offered the same opportunities as men. This ranges from fair pay where men are still being paid more than women for the same work. I recently read an article that at some schools there are more women in the colleges than men. This should be seen as a success not a downfall.
I feel it is important for everyone to use the skills they are born with to help the poor, protect the weak and comfort children. By all working together we can make this a better world for everyone. It does not take much effort to donate clothes that are gently worn to an organization like the Salvation Army. This is an organization that offers summer programs for children like me. They also help people during disasters. Those clothes can help a family that lost everything in a fire and keep textiles out of landfills. This is a big part of my Christian faith. It is a big part of who I am and how I was raised. A society can be judged by how they take care of the most vulnerable in their society.
I enjoy working with the toddler room in my church, Lives Changed By Christ each Sunday because I personal think they are the most fun. I enjoy playing games with them. Teaching them how to dance to our songs and help them make friends with other kids when they are new to the youth program. I provide a service to parents by offering a safe place for their kids so they can go into church, relax knowing their child is safe. The 90 minutes I volunteer each week is well worth my time.

I hope to work with students my same age on the reasons behind teenage pregnancy and how to break the cycle of social economics in relation to the outcome of teen pregnancy.
I understand the importance of giving back to my community and other youth. Therefore, weekly I volunteer as a Sunday school staff with 2–3-year-old kids and yearly at my church’s middle school youth summer camp. I also work as a math tutor for middle school students. I am a member of several clubs at school. My favorites are Environmental Science and Crochet. I have a crochet business in which I sell handmade earrings. I am expanding my online profile while in college to earn extra money.
Along this journey I’ve maintained a cumulative GPA between 4.0 and 3.7. This year I took dual enrollment classes at Robert Morris University and Beaver County Community College. I have 6 college credits, and I am currently taking an English Composition course. That will make 9 credits before I enter Millersville University. As you can see, education is another passion!
I have been accepted into the Honors Program at the Millersville University. At Millersville University I am keeping my educational options open for the 1st year of school as an Exploratory major. This will allow me to truly focus on a career path that allows my talents to bloom.
Once again, thank you for your consideration. Earning this scholarship will sincerely help in pursuing my future education without the heavy debt burden.
Success Beyond Borders
Hello, my name is Josie Sutter. Thank you for your consideration for the Success Beyond Borders Scholarship. I am currently a 12th grader at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. What I love about cyber school is that we obtain a vigorous education while being able to pursue our passions outside of school.
I come from a family where I am the third of seven children. As a child in a family of six siblings, my parents have always wondered if they would be able to afford to send us all to college. I am the first that has applied. Having biracial children, my parents understood the need for a thriving education in today's world. They knew it would help to expose us to a wide variety of experiences that will help us discover our passion. My parents have shown us how to work hard to achieve our goals.
I am currently working on my Gold Award targeting social justice.
Since 7th grade I have been a member of the “Roller Pride” high school marching band from Steel-High High school. I am a member of the color guard. Band is my passion and an amazing sport! I learned new skills and built a team environment with friends I have worked alongside. Last year, I joined Freedom Guard, a competitive indoor color guard team and we won gold in Wildwood, NJ! I plan to join the marching band at Millersville University also.

My mother signed us up for Girl Scouts. I enjoyed learning new things with the girls in my troop. We went camping and I believe that started my fondness for the outdoors and concern for the environment. I became older, I understood how social injustice can be just as impactful to environmental injustice. I earned my Bronze Award, the highest award a Girl Scout in 4th and 5th grade can earn. Our troop created a program working with kids reading and playing literacy games. I earned my Silver Award, the highest award a 6th-8th grader can earn, by petitioning my local Borough Council to allow backyard chickens to help with environmental sustainability. Backyard chickens allow families to raise pets for emotional support, increase self-sustainable lifestyles and enough use in a personal garden. All these life experiences have led me to the conclusion that the best way law enforcement agency can improve their relationship with the African American community is through three different steps. One of the first would be by creating relationships. Some of the best ways for people to trust law enforcement is to be around them on a regular basis. It would be amazing if officers were required to live in the communities they are serving. That way the community could see them at the grocery store or their kids would go to the same schools. This way law enforcement personnel could be seen as one-of-the-community versus enforcers of the community. A second way would be for law enforcement to hire more people of color. Therefore, people would see themselves in the officers protecting the neighborhood. Lastly, programs like the Police Athletic League are helpful to have youth engage with Law Enforcement at a young age. This will help people see the positive things law enforcement can do for the community and law enforcement can build a bond with the community.
At Millersville University I am keeping my educational options open for the 1st year of school as an Exploratory major. This will allow me to truly focus on a career path that allows my talents to bloom. I have several passions, and it has been very difficult to decide where I would like to go and what I would like to study. I have an interest in the sciences, I have an interest in the arts and in addition to business. I feel that by keeping my options open I will learn which course of study best suits me.

I am currently working on my Gold Award targeting social justice.

I plan to join the marching band at Millersville University also.
I understand the importance of giving back to my community and other youth. Therefore, weekly I volunteer as a Sunday school staff with 2–3-year-old kids and yearly at my church’s middle school youth summer camp. I am a member of several clubs at school. My favorites are Environmental Science and Crochet. I work as a math tutor for middle school students. I have a crochet business in which I sell handmade earrings. I have 6 college credits, and I am currently taking an English Composition course. That will make 9 credits before I enter Millersville University. As you can see, education is another passion!
