Volunteering is one of the biggest ways to have a positive impact on the world or others. 4-H camp is one of the many things I do because it helps the community by letting me connect with others, expand my horizons, and leave a lasting effect. Camp is where I’ve made the most friends and come up with innovative ideas.
Humans are social creatures and thrive when working with others. Most great inventions came from cooperation to achieve a single goal. Being able to connect with others not only makes me a better person but lets me be a good influence on others. Connection brings up together which makes it essential to human life. Not everyone has that kind of connection so I like being able to reach out and be a good friend.
I do not know everything, that is something true for everyone. Explaining my knowledge is something I always want to do. Ignorance is a big problem in today’s society and so I like to know as much as I can. Meeting new people, learning new skills, and reading new books are all excellent ways to gain new knowledge. I want to be the person who helps others now because I have to but because I can. Helping others is the kind of impact I want to leave in this world, it’s something I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember. And after all, they do say knowledge is power.
What makes an effect lasting? Could it be a giant effect which everyone can see or can it be something small and seemingly insignificant? I don’t need anything big to be happy. I believe just doing what I do now would be enough for me. Last year at 4-H camp I helped a homesick camper and making them see that they can actually have fun without a screen was the best feeling. Sure, it would not have been a huge effect for many people but just helping out one person meant the world to me.
