I’m a senior at Grafton High School in Yorktown, Virginia, and I plan to study Economics in college, possibly with a minor in History. Throughout high school, I’ve worked hard to balance academics, athletics, leadership, and service, maintaining a 3.8 GPA while consistently earning Honor Roll recognition and recognized as the Senior of the Month for December 2025.
I’ve competed in football, indoor track, and outdoor track all four years, and I’m proud to have served as the varsity football captain, received the Anchor Award, and been named Bay Rivers District 2nd Team Defensive All-Purpose Player. I was also fortunate to be part of two VHSL 3A state championship 4x200 relay teams.
Outside of school, I run my own lawn care business, which has taught me responsibility, time management, and professionalism, and I stay involved in my community through volunteering, mentoring younger students, and participating in leadership development opportunities. I take pride in working hard, leading by example, and continuing to grow through every opportunity I’m given.

One personal achievement I am most proud of is learning how to adapt and overcome challenges, even when life felt lonely. Growing up, I moved from place to place, and because of that, I never really had the opportunity to build long-term friendships or stay deeply connected to extended family. As an only child, that made things even harder. A lot of people grow up surrounded by cousins, close family friends, or friendships that last for years, but that was not really my experience. My parents gave me a good life, and I will always be grateful for the sacrifices they made to provide for me and support me. Even so, there were still challenges that came with growing up without a strong circle of people around me. There were times when I felt alone, disconnected, and unsure of where I belonged.
When you move often, you learn very quickly that life does not always stay the same for long. Every new place meant new surroundings, new people, and the pressure of starting over again. It was not easy to constantly adjust while watching other people already have their friend groups, their support systems, and their sense of comfort. Sometimes I felt like I was always trying to catch up or find my place. On top of that, being an only child meant I did not have siblings to lean on or grow up with through those changes. A lot of the time, I had to learn how to deal with things on my own. That experience could have made me bitter or caused me to withdraw from others, but instead it pushed me to become stronger.
Over time, I began to realize that one of the most important things I could do was learn how to be comfortable with myself. I had to stop depending on other people to define my worth or make me feel complete. That was not something I learned overnight. It took time, maturity, and a lot of self-reflection. There were moments when I had to face loneliness honestly and figure out how to turn it into growth instead of pain. That process taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my life: I had to learn how to love myself. Once I began to truly understand that, everything started to change.
Learning to love myself gave me confidence and strength. It taught me that even if I was in a new place or surrounded by unfamiliar people, I could still stand firm in who I was. I did not need to change myself just to fit in, and I did not need constant approval from others to feel valuable. Instead, I learned how to trust myself, believe in my own abilities, and keep moving forward no matter what situation I was placed in. That mindset helped me become more independent, more resilient, and more emotionally strong.
More than anything, I am proud that I turned something painful into something powerful. Instead of letting loneliness define me, I used it to build character, confidence, and self-worth. Learning how to love myself is an achievement I will carry with me for the rest of my life, because it has made me stronger, wiser, and more prepared for whatever comes next.
