I am passionate about pursuing theater because to me theatre is more than just a hobby. Before joining my school's theatre program, I felt like I never had a spot anywhere in high school. I was in other clubs before like sports, but I never felt satisfied with my performance nor I didn't value my role there. This made me feel like I was wasting my time, leading to me walking away from the many clubs I was in. I wanted to search for a hobby I could be both proud of and happy with and it wasn't until I joined my first Lindblom theater class that I saw something different than just another potential hobby. After being in the class for a bit, I saw a community and a family where everyone was encouraged to work together and grow as a whole. I also found that my acting was valued which gave me the confidence to try out for my first play. There I met even more supportive and fun peers in theatre including a lot of individuals I would never have met elsewhere and even tho we were different races, sexes, and ages, we were all alike in theatre. It's because of theatre that I saw how beautiful it can be to work again in a team where everyone is just as important as the next no matter the role. With the wide range of parts, there are and how each role is just as important as the last, it ensures that everyone there is valued which is something I can never forget. As I feel everyone has an important role in life and theatre to me is a living example of this. It also gave me access to something I can never get bored of which is the art of acting. The feeling of being able to turn a character in a script into something real and relatable is one of my favorite parts of theatre and when I act I feel I get a chance to show the world a glimpse of someone's life making them feel more alive and respected than ever just like theatre did for me. This is why I feel it would be a waste of my talents and ideas to leave my theatre career at just a high school level. With the larger amount of resources, people, and ideas at a college, I think it's the perfect opportunity to share with others how theatre made me feel, giving the same feelings of community and friendship that I felt and needed. This way nobody has to have to feel underappreciated again, as theatre isn't just just a hobby to me, but a way to change people's minds and bring everyone together. Just like how when I was 8 years old after watching Batman for the first time, I felt the urge to help others and do good, I want to use my acting to give other kids the same reason for hope and inspire them to make a change. I know pursuing theatre is just the start of making all of this come true.
