Hello. My name is Joshua Gonzales. I like to play games and hang out with friends. Ever since I was young, I was always good at math and even now i seem to do really well, so i hope to a future where I can have a job where I'm happy trying to do and make things with my hands while taking math and using it along the way.

Students in school all start in the same place. They start with a teach in front of them. Now, not every student learns the same materials or has the same start as others, but we all learn from teachers in our lives. Luckily enough for me, i enjoyed learning enough to keep with it. Obviously, with persuasion and motivation from my parents. They’re the ones who pushed me and taught me to push myself to do the best that i knew i could do. Growing up, i strived to get the best mark in my grades and do my best to do the best. Now, i wasn’t a valedictorian by any means, but i a good students who put the work in. That has been my mindset for my entire educational life, all the way until my senior year. And it was with this mindset that made me want to further my education, to continue doing the best that I can do. That being continuing my education, in my mom’s words. This is one reason why I am continuing into college education. This, and my parents ideals of making us to be better than them. Being first generation, they didn’t attend or fully complete their colleges. Actually, i only know of one family member in my entire family to have attended, but dropped out, of college education. This is another great reason for me to continue in this educational direction.
As for the reason of STEM education, that can also stem from my childhood education. Personally, i’m interested in pursuing a degree in engineering, either mechanical or civil. This falling into the E in STEM, I believe, is because of my own education in mathematics. I have always excelled in math and I have never once not enjoyed doing math. I enjoy it in the sense that I can easily grasp the material and in some moments, it seems like a puzzle to solve and I thoroughly enjoy puzzles as well. Another reason for this interested in the STEM field is that I am a very hands on individual. As a younger person, i always enjoyed playing with legos, very tactile materials and following instructions to create things have always been a joy of mine. Even in these younger ages, I had received robots as gifts that I had to construct and watching them be built and work by myself was incredible to me. I loved them and the process of building them and if there was a career that I could pursue that has the possibility for that to be my full time job, why would my younger self ever pass that up? These reasons are why i chose this scholarship to apply to and why I want to pursue college education in STEM.
