      Brittany McGlone Memorial Scholarship
I believe that art allows me to be free. Free to think. Free to plan. Free to be me. In this world is so much confusion. There is so much sadness. There is so much that I can not change on my own yet. However, with the opportunity to learn and further my education in art; photography, and other hands on creative things, I can see the world through my lens and show love to the world when they see what I create. In my heart I feel that the beauty I see within myself, I can share with others. I believe that when I look at a flower blooming and grass budding, and I take an image of it, I'm capturing the moment that quickly passes. A moment of beauty captured in an image that will make others smile. Wild life actually roaming around, they people normally may not see or witness as I have. To share an image of those beings would be amazing. In my backyard, I witnessed a deer and her babies, twins I called them, relaxing and growing in my backyard. I wanted others to see this so much. I would stand inside and look through the window at them in awe. Such calm. Such beauty. Furthering my education in art where I can learn more about the processes of photography, and other creative ways to demonstrate the beauty I capture, would be a blessing and a gift. I feel that this scholarship tin Brittany's honor, would assist me in making the dream a reality. I am saddened that Brittany loss her life to someone stealing her beauty away from her. I wish that never would have happened. In her honor, I would create beauty for this world, that otherwise go unseen. In my own life personally, I have witnessed traumatic events like the brutal beating of my uncle who although I was very young, remember his love and light through my mother's stories of him. He too was very artistic with music. That was his passion, and making others happy. His life too, was cut short by others who believed that hurting someone was the way to show that they were tough. Those people were never caught as well. However, I believe that maybe, just maybe, one day, justice will be served for my uncle as well. Life is precious. It is a gift and there are beautiful things in it. Furthering my education, and building upon my love to find the beauty within the normal day to day, can ensure that others have hope, even if for a moment. I would be honored to receive this scholarship in honor or Brittany and her family. Finding beauty and love in a world that does not alway demonstrate it. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. Joshua Debrow
