My name is Joshua Carvajal, and I’m a junior studying Kinesiology at the University of Central Florida. I’ve always had a deep love for life, movement, and the people around me. Whether through sports, school, or everyday conversations, I’ve found that what fulfills me most is helping others feel like the best version of themselves. That’s exactly why I’m pursuing a career in physical therapy.
Being active taught me that the body can be strong one day and vulnerable the next. I’ve seen teammates, friends, and family members that had to sit on the sideline because of an injury. What stood out to me, though, wasn’t just the pain they experienced but just how hard it was for them to lose something they loved doing. I actually had to stop playing the sport I loved due to an injury. Watching physical therapists not only restore strength and mobility but also hope and confidence was incredibly inspiring. I knew I wanted to be someone who could make that kind of impact.
I want to become a sports physical therapist to help athletes and everyday people return to the things that bring them joy. Whether that’s running, lifting, playing with their kids, or just walking without discomfort, I want to walk alongside them in that journey. I believe in treating the person, not just the injury. Everyone deserves to feel capable again.
I love that physical therapy lets me work closely with people while using what I’ve learned to actually make a difference. It’s not just about recovery but it’s about helping people reclaim a part of themselves. As someone who values empathy, encouragement, and consistency, I see physical therapy as more than a career. To me, it’s a chance to show people they’re not alone in their struggle and that better days are incoming.
I believe I’d be a strong candidate for any scholarship not just because of my academic goals, but because of my heart. I’m driven, hardworking, and genuinely invested in helping others. My goal isn’t just to become a successful physical therapist but to be someone who makes people feel seen, supported, and strong again. I’m committed to showing up for people when they need it most. My goal is to build trust, celebrate progress, and remind others that setbacks don’t define them. It's the resilience, support, and belief that we create with in their potential that does.
