One major life goal I have in life is to give back to my family as much as I can, whether it be the one I make in the future or the one that is helping get through life right now. I continue to pursue this goal right now even though I am only still in high school. The majority of the week I am in school working in various classes I believe will help prepare me for college and engineering classes I expect to have. After school, I stay for our robotics program in which I am Vice President of where I spend about 5 hours completing any personal project or, my current project, working on our robot for a regional robotics competition. If I am not working in robotics I have a part time job where I spend an average of 20 hours a week to save money for college, current expenses, and food for my family.

Throughout my educational journey, I have always striven to make my community a better place. From cleaning up the streets around my neighborhood to organizing events that keep students engaged and learning. When I was younger, I had limited opportunities to help my community because I did not have guaranteed transportation, so I took advantage of the moments that I did. During my free time at home, I would go around my neighborhood and pick up trash and recyclables to help make the area look more appealing to incoming guests. I also volunteered for marathon aid stations where I offered moral support and hydration to the runners. Additionally, I worked with local organizations and organized beach clean ups. As I transitioned to my junior year in high school, I made the commitment to assume the position of AVID Club president, which showed me a new path of giving back to my community to educate and team build without the need of it being community service. I assumed the leadership role in AVID because I drive to inspire the new generation the same way AVID did to me in the past. I started my term by leading college information presentations to reveal key concepts some may want to take into account when thinking of applying to universities. Additionally, I was able to bring in a guest speaker from Cal Lutheran University to show our members that there are multiple ways of approaching college life and post secondary education. Furthermore, I created team building exercises to introduce our members skills that will be very beneficial in college. As an added benefit, this enhances their team productivity by developing their communication and problem solving skills. I also began fundraising events to provide our AVID seniors with scholarships to help them financially throughout their post secondary education. I'm proud that last year we were able to provide $2500 in scholarships and this year's goal is to provide $3,500. I created time within my schedule to provide my peers with as many beneficial opportunities as I could so they can progress beyond their own capabilities. I also have a business plan to help grow more strength within the community that brought me my strength. A growing issue in Oxnard, my hometown, has been labor-intensive work. From working in construction, doing DIY projects around my house, and having family members work in the fields, I have seen many effects of what labor-intensive work can do to a person physically and emotionally. A project that I want to work on is making a stress bracelet that cross-references heart rate, movement, and moisture in the body to measure the exhaustion of oneself. This can help employers determine when to give their employees breaks, when a labor-intensive worker needs to refrain from doing such laboring work, and when to drink water. This can prevent the astronomical amount of field workers' back problems including my own mother’s when one of her vertebrae discs slipped. This small bracelet can save many potential work and personal injuries that can change someone’s life

My main goal in life is to give back in any way possible whether it’s from volunteering, making a product as an engineer, or charity. As a student throughout my middle school and high school career, I have been volunteering as much as I can with my busy schedule. I participate in aid stations in all the local marathons, attend and organize beach clean-ups, and help tutor students in different math topics. During Junior year, I was fortunate enough to land the title of AVID Club President. I brought in a guest speaker from Cal Lutheran University to show our members that there are multiple ways of approaching college life and post-secondary education.
Furthermore, I created team-building exercises to introduce our members to skills that will be very beneficial in college. I'm proud that last year we were able to provide $2500 in scholarships and this year's goal is to give out $3,500. After high school, I plan to attend either UCSB or UCSD to major in mechanical engineering where I can grow my expertise and give back to my cultural community in a huge way. A growing issue in Oxnard that has been growing ever since I was a child is labor-intensive work. As I gain the knowledge from college, I can start this business and earn a great amount of money which I will start by helping my immediate family financially because I am the person I am today because of them. Without my parents, I would not be the person I am today because they built me from the ground up when we had nothing but sour cream and tortillas to eat for a week. My life is owed to them so I plan to help them in any way possible when I have the chance. After helping out my whole family, the next step is to better my community. I plan to give back to every part of my community from all of the schools I attended, to South Oxnard, and the local businesses that are being pushed out by large corporations. The city has been putting forth the majority of its income to North Oxnard which is giving real estate agents the chance to buy out poor neighborhoods to proceed with a large expansion of gentrification. This raises the rent by about $1,000 or so when my culture can barely make it by with the high prices of rent we already have. I want to give the chance for my people to thrive in a community that constantly brings them down.
