Bio

Helping others is something I have always been passionate about. In my high school career, I have excelled in this through my work as an Indiana District Board Member of Key Club International. I plan to attend college to major in Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy at James Madison College of Michigan State University. After I receive my undergraduate degree, I plan to attend law school, which will lead to a career in civil rights law so I can help represent those whose rights have been violated.

Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
The fall-inspired drink from Starbucks that holds a place in my heart is the hot pumpkin spice latte. Although this is a rather basic choice from their fall menu this drink is special to me in the sense that my whole life I have never really been a huge fan of pumpkin. At Thanksgiving dinner, I never eat the pumpkin pie because, in my opinion, it tastes bad no matter where it comes from. Pumpkin doughnuts from my local orchard were okay, but I always preferred the apple ones because the pumpkin glaze had a weird aftertaste. The only reason I decided to try the latte was because of my cross-country teammates. Every Friday we would have practice in the morning so we would be well rested that night for our meet the next morning. We started practice at 5:15 and depending on how far we live from the school we would have to leave our houses between 4:45-5 to be early like our coach wanted. Because of this some of the upperclassmen who could drive would often take some underclassmen to go get coffee between practice and school so we don't get too tired by the end of the day. Well one Friday morning during the 2022 season, it happened to be the day Starbucks' fall menu came out. I was a sophomore at the time and one of my junior friends would take me and a few others with her for coffee. That morning on our way they were all talking about how they were excited to get the first pumpkin spice latte of the season. Even though pumpkin was never really appealing to me I decided to try it to see if it was worth the hype. I remember I ordered a grande because if I didn't like it I didn't want to waste a large portion if I got a venti. When it was ready and I tried it, to my surprise it tasted really good. It was exciting for me because I had finally found some form of pumpkin that I genuinely enjoyed. During these past fall drink seasons I found myself ordering one every time I went to Starbucks. Drinking it even without my coffee car group reminds me of all the fun memories we have even more so when I am not with them to make new ones. I love how I can have memories of my past cross-country seasons brought back just by drinking a Starbucks latte. In my opinion, the memories coming back to me show the strength of the friendship I started developing with each girl just in those car rides and how meaningful and impactful they have become in my everyday life. Just from those coffee runs I have gained some of my closest friends which quite frankly is more important than just finding a new favorite fall drink.
    Disney Channel Rewind Scholarship
Of all the Disney shows I grew up watching I feel a crossover between Liv And Maddie and Girl Meets World would be the perfect combination. The title of this episode would be "Girl Meets Change-A-Rooney" to combine the classic parts of each show's episode titles. Imagine the Rooney family moves from Stevens Point to New York City after their house burns down instead of going to California. The crossover would take place in the later era of Girl Meets World when Riley and her friends are in high school where an interaction with the twins is bound to happen. Liv and Maddie are brand new to Abigail Adams High School and they don't know anyone or anything about their surroundings. Riley and her friends are freshmen at the time so they also feel very lost in this new, big, environment. Come lunch time they have no idea where to sit. They notice two very similar girls alone at a table and go to sit with them. The twins, Riley, Maya, Farkle, and Lucas begin to talk to each other in hopes of making new friends. The Girl Meets World group begins to tell Liv and Maddie about the crazy adventures they had during middle school and the twins compare it to some of the adventures they had back home. They realize they are more similar than they initially thought and quickly become close friends. Now this episode wouldn't truly be from Disney Channel without a big plot twist. Well in this episode it would happen when Riley invites all the girls to her house after school. While they are sitting in her room, Riley and Maya ask the twins if there's any boy that catches their eyes. Maddie tells them that Lucas is really cute and she thinks she likes him. This creates an awkward moment because the twins don't know the girls' history with Lucas. Riley exclaims that she can't like him and refuses to say why when she is asked. Acknowledging the change in mood the twins left. The next day in school, the boys notice the awkward silence occurring during lunch. When Riley and Maya won't say what's going on Lucas turns to Liv and Maddie for the answers. Liv doesn't say much because she doesn't want to hurt Maddie by telling him about her sister's feelings for him. After more pressure from Lucas, Maddie confesses her feelings to him and how when she told the girls Riley and Maya got all weird about it. Lucas looks shocked and takes a second to process things before he says anything. He then tells the twins about his background with both girls and that he is sorry but his commitment remains with Riley. The twins are shocked and rush to find Riley so Maddie can apologize. When they finally find them Maya speaks up to try and force them away but Maddie quickly blurts out "I'm sorry" and Maya lets them stay. Maddie proceeds to give a long apology which prompts Riley to also apologize for not giving her a reason for her angry behavior. The four of them then make up and the group goes back to how it was when they first met at lunch. The episode would end with a scene of the gang at lunch the next day where they are all laughing and enjoying each other's company. This is what I believe would be the perfect crossover episode in Disney's golden age.
    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
After a devastating breakup, it is hard to find peace in life. Although I have never experienced this myself I have seen my peers go through these tough times. But after heartbreak comes the healing process. A point where people realize their lives are better than before and they find their inner peace. This all relates back to "Clean" from Taylor Swift's '1989'. Not only does this song have a nice beat and catchy tune but it also shows a great representation of the self-healing process. In Swift's case, she is healing after a breakup between her and her boyfriend at the time. The song starts out with Swift explaining how she initially felt afterward by using lines such as "The drought was the very worst... When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst". The "drought" Swift speaks of is the feeling of emptiness after a significant loss in life. She was trying to figure out how to heal from the breakup. Later in the song, Swift uses lines such as "Gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean". Swift had focused on herself and she was healed. When she says she is "finally clean" she is implying now that every aspect of him is gone from her life she feels free from the burden of the pain the breakup caused her. "Clean" is the last track on the '1989' album. This feels important because in a way it is creating an end to a story. Clean is about her healing process after a breakup with pop icon Harry Styles. Swift also wrote the songs "Style" and Out "Of The Woods" about her relationship with Styles. "Style" appears before the other two songs. The main focus is the qualities they love about each other and even through rough times they "And when we go crashing down, we come back every time". This line from the song shows that no matter what they always rebound from whatever troubles they were experiencing. "Out Of The Woods" directly follow "Style" on the tracklist. The main focus is this song is Swift's realization that her relationship with Styles is failing. In the song Swift asks "Are we out of the woods yet", and "Are we in the clear yet"? These questions she is asking show us the anxiety she is gaining through the progression of the relationship. The order of the three songs on the tracklist shows a chronological representation of their relationship. "Clean" is a nice song to end the story with because it tells the audience how she has healed and people can find the song relatable. The song is audibly pleasing which adds to the enjoyableness of the song. This is why "Clean" is my favorite song from Taylor Swift's '1989'.
