    Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My name is Jordan Carter, and I am a third-year Business Administration student at Florida A&M University from Apopka, Florida. My journey to this point has been shaped by leadership, resilience, and a deep commitment to creating opportunities for others. I have always believed that success is not only measured by personal achievement, but by how you uplift the people and communities around you. That belief continues to guide my academic journey and the goals I have set for my future. From an early age, I have been drawn to leadership and service. In high school, I served as senior class vice president and founded Minority Leadership Scholars at my predominantly white school. I created the organization to ensure that minority students had a space where they felt supported and encouraged to pursue higher education and leadership opportunities. Through that organization, I helped coordinate initiatives such as clothing drives, toy drives, and other service projects that gave students the opportunity to give back to the community. That experience showed me the power of representation and reinforced my desire to use leadership as a way to open doors for others. Continuing that journey at Florida A&M University has been incredibly meaningful for me. As the daughter of two FAMU alumni, attending an HBCU is not only an academic choice but also a continuation of a legacy. Being surrounded by a community that celebrates Black excellence, leadership, and culture has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. At FAMU, I have continued to develop my leadership through my involvement with the Campus Activities Board and the Orlando Club, where I help organize events, support community service initiatives, and create opportunities for student engagement. These experiences have strengthened my communication, leadership, and teamwork skills while allowing me to contribute to a campus environment that has poured so much into my growth. Academically, I am pursuing a degree in Business Administration with aspirations of building a career in marketing. I am passionate about storytelling, communication, and understanding how organizations connect with communities. Marketing is powerful because it shapes narratives and influences how people see themselves and the world around them. My goal is to work in a field where I can use creativity and strategy to help organizations grow while also ensuring that diverse voices and communities are authentically represented in the stories being told. Receiving this scholarship would be a meaningful step in helping me continue this journey. Like many college students, I face the financial realities that come with pursuing higher education. This scholarship would help relieve some of that burden and allow me to focus more fully on my academic success, leadership responsibilities, and professional development opportunities such as internships and networking experiences. These opportunities are critical as I prepare to transition from the classroom into the professional world. More importantly, this scholarship would represent an investment in my potential and the impact I hope to make in the future. My family and community have always supported and encouraged my dreams, and I carry that support with me in everything I do. I am determined to use my education to build a career that not only allows me to succeed but also allows me to mentor others, create opportunities, and give back to the communities that helped shape me. This scholarship would not only support my education—it would help empower the future leader I am working every day to become.
    7023 Minority Scholarship
If awarded this scholarship, it would play a significant role in helping me continue pursuing my educational goals at Florida A&M University. As a third-year Business Administration student, I am focused on gaining the knowledge, experiences, and professional exposure necessary to build a successful career in marketing. While I am deeply committed to my education and leadership involvement on campus, the financial responsibilities that come with pursuing a college degree can sometimes create additional challenges. Receiving this scholarship would help relieve some of that financial burden and allow me to focus more fully on my academic success, leadership development, and career preparation. Throughout my time at Florida A&M University, I have intentionally sought opportunities that allow me to grow not only as a student but also as a leader and active member of my campus community. I serve in leadership roles within the Campus Activities Board and the Orlando Club, where I contribute to organizing events, supporting community service initiatives, and helping create meaningful experiences for students on campus. These roles have helped me develop valuable skills such as communication, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving—skills that will be essential as I move forward in my professional career. Being involved in student leadership has also taught me the importance of balancing responsibilities and remaining committed to service while maintaining academic success. Scholarships like this one help make that balance possible by reducing the need to focus solely on financial concerns and instead allowing students to invest more time into their education and the communities they are a part of. In addition to supporting my academic journey, this scholarship would also provide me with the flexibility to pursue internships, networking opportunities, and professional development programs related to marketing. These experiences are incredibly important because they allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations while building connections with professionals in their field. Gaining hands-on experience in marketing will help me better understand how organizations communicate with diverse audiences and create meaningful connections with the communities they serve. Most importantly, this scholarship would represent an investment not only in my education but also in the impact I hope to create in the future. My long-term goal is to build a career in marketing where I can combine creativity, strategy, and storytelling to help organizations grow while also ensuring that diverse communities are represented in the messages that brands share. Representation and authenticity matter, and I want to contribute to shaping narratives that reflect the voices and experiences of people from different backgrounds. My education is not only about achieving personal success but also about creating opportunities for others. My family has always supported and encouraged my academic journey, and I hope to honor that support by building a career that allows me to give back. With the support of this scholarship, I will be better positioned to continue pursuing my educational goals, strengthening my leadership abilities, and ultimately using my career to make a meaningful difference in my community.

My name is Jordan Carter, and I am a third-year Business Administration student at Florida A&M University from Apopka, Florida. My journey to this point has been shaped by leadership, service, and the strong support system that has always encouraged me to pursue opportunities that allow me to grow and uplift others. From a young age, my family emphasized the importance of education, hard work, and giving back to the community. Those values have guided many of my decisions and continue to influence the goals I have set for myself both academically and professionally. Growing up in Apopka, I quickly learned how powerful leadership and representation can be. In high school, I served as senior class vice president and secretary of Minority Leadership Scholars at my predominantly white school. The purpose of the organization was to create a space where minority students could feel supported while also encouraging them to explore higher education and career opportunities. Through this organization, I worked with other students to organize service initiatives such as clothing drives, toy drives, and community outreach events that supported families in need. Leading Minority Leadership Scholars taught me that leadership is not just about holding a title—it is about creating opportunities, building community, and making sure that others feel seen and supported. These experiences helped shape my decision to pursue higher education at Florida A&M University. Attending an HBCU holds a deeply personal meaning for me because both of my parents are proud FAMU alumni. Growing up hearing their stories about the university, I always knew that FAMU represented more than just a place to earn a degree. It represents legacy, culture, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence within the Black community. Choosing to attend an HBCU means being part of a tradition that has empowered generations of students to succeed despite barriers and challenges. Since arriving at Florida A&M University, I have continued to seek opportunities that allow me to grow as both a student and a leader. I am actively involved in organizations that encourage leadership, student engagement, and service. Through my involvement with the Campus Activities Board and the Orlando Club, I have had the opportunity to help coordinate events, support student initiatives, and participate in community service efforts that positively impact both students and the surrounding community. These experiences have strengthened my communication, teamwork, and organizational skills while also allowing me to contribute to the vibrant culture that makes FAMU such a special place. Academically, I am pursuing a degree in Business Administration with aspirations of building a career in marketing. I have always been interested in how organizations communicate with people and how powerful messaging can influence communities. Marketing, to me, is about more than just promoting a product or service. It is about storytelling, understanding people, and creating messages that resonate with diverse audiences. I am particularly interested in how marketing can be used to highlight diverse voices and connect organizations with the communities they serve in meaningful ways. My long-term goal is to build a career where I can combine creativity, strategy, and leadership to help organizations grow while also creating opportunities for others. Through my work in marketing, I hope to help organizations tell authentic stories that reflect the experiences of diverse communities. Representation in media and marketing matters, and I want to contribute to shaping narratives that uplift and empower people who may not always see themselves represented. Making a difference for my family and community is one of my greatest motivations. My family has always supported my education and encouraged me to pursue my dreams, and I carry that support with me every day. I hope that my success will not only make them proud but also create new opportunities for future generations in my family. Beyond my family, I also hope to give back by mentoring younger students, supporting community initiatives, and encouraging others to pursue higher education and leadership opportunities. Attending an HBCU has strengthened my confidence, deepened my sense of purpose, and surrounded me with a community that constantly encourages excellence. Being at Florida A&M University has shown me what it looks like when students are empowered to lead, innovate, and serve their communities. My journey is still unfolding, but I am committed to using the education, leadership experiences, and opportunities I receive at FAMU to create a lasting impact for my family, my community, and the next generation of leaders.

As a rising sophomore at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), I have already witnessed the power of education in transforming lives. From my involvement in the Minority Leadership Scholars club in high school to my current roles in the campus activities board and the Business Living Learning Community, I have always been committed to using my education to uplift others, particularly in the Black community. This commitment will continue as I pursue a degree in business administration with the goal of creating pathways for Black people in the business world. Growing up in Orlando, I saw firsthand the challenges that Black entrepreneurs and professionals face. My mother, a small business owner, often struggled with limited access to resources and networks that are crucial for business growth. Inspired by her perseverance, I made it my mission to leverage my education to address these systemic barriers. At FAMU, I have taken courses that delve into the economic and social factors affecting minority communities, and I have applied this knowledge through internships and campus leadership roles. One significant way I plan to use my education is by establishing mentorship programs that connect Black students and young professionals with experienced business leaders. These programs will provide guidance, support, and networking opportunities that are often inaccessible to those from underrepresented backgrounds. My experience as the senior class vice president in high school and as the treasurer of the upcoming Orlando club at FAMU has equipped me with the organizational skills necessary to launch and sustain such initiatives. Additionally, I aim to advocate for policies that promote diversity and inclusion within corporate structures. During my internship as a campaign manager, I developed skills in communication and advocacy that I will use to influence business practices and policies. By promoting the benefits of a diverse workforce and inclusive leadership, I hope to create environments where Black professionals can thrive. In my sophomore year, I am also focusing on community service, particularly projects that support Black-owned businesses. As a member of the community service committee for the campus activities board, I have organized events that raise awareness and funds for these businesses. These initiatives not only provide immediate support but also foster a sense of solidarity and empowerment within the community. My education at FAMU is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about using that knowledge to create real, tangible change. By continuing to engage in leadership roles, community service, and advocacy, I am committed to building a better path for Black people in the business world. My ultimate goal is to see a future where Black entrepreneurs and professionals have equal opportunities to succeed and where their contributions are recognized and valued. In conclusion, my journey at FAMU is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to empowering the Black community through business. I believe that by creating mentorship programs, advocating for inclusive policies, and supporting Black-owned businesses, I can make a meaningful impact. With a strong educational foundation and a passion for social justice, I am dedicated to building a brighter future for Black people in the business world.
