I am Jonesy Cuevas and I am currently an incoming M.S student in Applied Psychological Methods at Fordham University and a Hunter College Alumni with a B.A in Clinical Psychology, a minor in Sociology, and a Thomas Hunter Honors Scholar. Presently, I am working at Hunter College as a college assistant in the Honors Department and I am interested in pursuing a career within the human resources department and working with non profit organizations. Throughout my academic career, I had the opportunity to be involved with organizations dedicated to the wellness of our communities such as SAGE USA and Make-A-Wish and I would love to continue their mission of assisting marginalized communities such as the Hispanic and LGBTQ community through my career.

One unique contribution that I would give to the world to make mental health care affordable and accessible to anyone who needs support is for the government to implement care teams of trained mental health professionals that will be on call for mental health situations. In other words, most times people who are struggling with their mental health often times reaches out to the police for additional help and most times the police can escalate the situation as they are not trained to handle these situations. With a specialized care team we will be able to efficiently assist those who are seeking for help instead of criminalizing them and reducing the stigma against those with mental health issues. Additionally, care centers that are well funded that can provide mental health services at a low cost should be put in place in our cities and/or our hospitals as it will become more affordable and accessible for those who do not have insurance.
