Hello, my name is Jonelle Uziewe. I'm currently a junior at Georgia State University in the Honors College. I previously majored in Anthropology, but I was not passionate about that field of study, so I decided to look deep within myself and evaluate my genuine passions. I'm an English major with a concentration in creative writing, and my ambition is to become an author and screenwriter. Ever since I was a child, my mother stressed the importance of education, and I continue to carry that mindset that she instilled in me. My mother encouraged and prayed with me about my dreams and ambitions to become an author and screenwriter. I want to make an impact in the realm of writing like my predecessors, Octavia E. Butler and Maya Angelou. I've struggled to live up to the expectations set for me as a Black woman. I thought I had to choose between my identity as a Black woman and my passion as a writer and creative. But, I realized that I'm Black no matter what I do. I want to be an example for Black women throughout my career path and show them that they do not have to conform but transform. After achieving my bachelor's in creative writing, I plan to pursue a master's. I cannot stress how important financial aid and scholarships are to reach my dreams. I don't want to go through my first four years of college and get all this knowledge and not apply it to my future career and my purpose in life. Getting financial aid and scholarships will be the catalyst to achieving everything I've put my mind to.
