On career day in Kindergarten, my first career interest was to be a software designer. This stemmed from my love of video games at an early age, playing these games with my father. The interest continued over the years, where I still have an interest to pursue as a freshman in college. I want to earn a degree in computer science, software engineering, or game development. After receiving my degree, my future goal is to start a business in software design or game development to teach these skills to others less fortunate to give them the opportunity at becoming successful in this field. In high school, I could be a part of the graphic design elective despite not being able to do any classes associated with my dream. In the graphic design course, I did four years of designing, learning in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I even earned my Photoshop Associative Certificate online during the advanced graphics course. Now I am designing posters for the football team’s seniors at my high school. Why not go into graphic design? I still chose not to pursue my career in graphic design because I still wanted to focus on game and software development for my future career in the creative space. But, graphic design has taught me a lot about the basic principles of designing almost anything, and changing my approach regarding writing down what I visualize in my thoughts. I believe the course was not only useful in designing logos and UI, but also in how I approach my design in the future. I also started practicing coding in C# online and watching videos on YouTube to help me in my learning. Furthermore, I hope to gain experience in the field of game design and direction for an AAA developer. Eventually, my goal is to start my own development studio, so I can show the world my creativity. I also aim to show the world darker themes in video games with a balance of gameplay, story, and environment. I want the studio to be the next Square Enix, Nintendo, or Microsoft. If I go into software development or computer science, I want to create a business in those fields and create cheap and easy game software specialized for indie developers. I want to take these skills that I learned and share them with those less fortunate than me in the Black community to increase our numbers in the field. As I looked around me, I noticed a severe lack of black creators in the STEM field, especially in computer science. I want to expose this career to the Black community and take these skills that I learned and share them with those less fortunate than me in the Black community to increase our numbers in the field. My hope is that they will do the same or more for their community or family.
