I am passionate about psychology, and super curious about the way our minds function, and how they are affected by the environment around us. I dream of someday being a pastry chef, and making delicate pastries for people from all over the world.

John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
My field of interest and hopeful career path is in the culinary arts. More specifically the art of pastries and the flavors that go into these. It is my dream, to someday be a pastry chef; someone who brings people together from all over the world through good treats. I love the art of the pasty because of how impermanent it is. It teaches you to not take things too seriously, and how you can spend hours making a masterpiece for it to be gone in minutes. I love how many arts go into the making of a pastry: the presentation, the flavors, and of course the act of making it. The act of baking a pastry is just as much art as it is science. You can change a recipe just so as to fit the idea in your mind. My goal is to share my passion in my future career as a pastry chef through these delicate flavors and pastries and inspire people to do the same.
Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
My favorite Billie Eilish song has got to be "My Future" because it touches on moving on from the past and looking towards and even forward to the future. This resonates with me because I have had many different versions of myself throughout my life, and many more that I'm sure are to come. the lyric "I'm in love with my future, I can't wait to meet her" especially demonstrates my connection. in another lyric, she states "I'm in love but not with anybody else, just want to get to know myself." I especially love and connect with this lyric because as a person in a relationship, I have to constantly remind myself to not plan my future based on their plans, but instead consider the future and life I see myself living, and where I would be most happy, and to "get to know myself" before basing my future decisions on anyone else's lives. My second favorite song by Billie Eilish is Happier than ever. This song is about breaking out of an unhealthy relationship and finding yourself kinda confused, hopeful, but also as the name implies, happier than ever. In my life, I have had relationships in which the person did not respect me, romantic or not, which led to me respecting myself less without even realizing it. As soon as those relationships eventually fell apart, I realized the burden on my shoulders had lifted, and that I was now, happier than ever. My third favorite song by Billie Eilish is "Ocean Eyes". I interpreted this song to be about Billie being afraid of falling in love. her lyrics "I'm scared, I've never fallen from quite this high, falling into your ocean eyes" is an example of the way she feels about this person, how she is falling for them, and being mesmerized by their eyes, and also the fear that comes with falling in love. Not only has her beautiful voice brought me to tears more than once while listening to this, but the concept of fearing love is something that I have dealt with myself. the fear that as soon as you start to give this person a part of you, that as soon as you are vulnerable they will decide they don't love you anymore, and you will be left with a heart so full of love, yet broken and spilling and losing everything else.
