It involves scary creatures and there is much that is unknown about these monsters. I will start by talking about a movie that is my favoriteI liked talking about this novel in class. It was one of the most interesting movies that I have ever talked about. Victor spends some time creating a creature that he thought he would like out of old body parts. One night while in his apartment he brings his creation to life. When he looks at the creature/monster that he has created,the sight horrifies him and scares him. He dislikes the sight of the monster and wants to get rid of it immediately. The monster had run away and Victor was relieved. I want to relate this to Bird Box because she is relieved when she could not see any more monsters in her sight because she is still frightened as to what is to come. Though the monster is gone, Victor is feeling sick. Sickened by his horrific creation. He receives a call and he is informed that is brother had been murdered. He also receives the news his other loved one had been murdered. The monster approaches him one day and tells him what had happened. The monster begs Victor to create a friend for him, but Victor is hesitant to do this since he is already traumatized. Victor refused to create a second monster because he is horrified by the thought of creating a second monster. The monster is persuading him to create it because he is lonely and he eventually convinces Victor. a, Victor heads for England, accompanied by Henry, to gather information for the creation of a female monster. One night, Victor looks out the window and he sees the monster staring at him in a frightening way. As he is horrified by his second monster, Victor destroys his new creation.( Frankenstein, Chapter 13 page 14) The monster is very mad at Victor about what he did and he plots for revenge.

Substance abuse looks like abusing drugs. You can help a loved one with substance abuse disorder by taking them to rehab and educating them on the effects of drugs and alcohol. This can take place at events such as fraternities and other parties. There are many consequences to addiction. Early use of cannabis and alcohol is very bad for your health. The human brain develops throughout adolescence and well beyond. Marijuana use and alcohol use can harm learning, thinking and memory development and the use of the drug has been linked to mental health issues, including psychosis, as well as other physical health problems such as anxiety and depression. We can improve the drug by adding something that improves your physical health. According to one recent study, even a little cannabis and a little alcohol consumed by a teenager can cause changes in the part of the brain involved in emotion-related processing, learning, and memory formation. We also know the earlier a young person starts to use any mood- or mind-altering substance, the greater the possibility of developing a substance use disorder. Indeed, at our addiction treatment center for adolescents and young adults in Minnesota, 89 percent of our 734 residential patients in 2017 had cannabis in their substance use history, and 84 percent were diagnosed with cannabis use disorder. We can achieve Sustainable Development Goals by helping the planet by not wasting things such as products, cutting down their energy consumption, and choosing better equipment, especially in the beauty industry. We can reduce energy consumption by turning off the lights when they are not needed, lowering the air conditioning, and unplugging devices when they are not being used. Businesses can also reduce waste such as using plastic cups instead of paper cups, Reusing paper and recycling things that need to be recycled and thrown away . Loans also leave students with a great amount of debt. But a good thing about this scholarship and other scholarships is that it does not need to be repaid, so I can focus on my career, without worrying about the loans that need to be repaid. Scholarships also play a very important role in making college more affordable and it paves the way for attaining my college degree. This scholarship will push me forward in my career. Also, this scholarship will give me confidence because I will have some money to pay for my college necessities. Even if the amount of scholarship money is small or big, every bit counts. I could use this scholarship to pay for a laptop, books, or anything that I may need to help me with my education. Having the necessities and the supplies you need for college is very important because if you don’t have them, you won’t do well academically. So, I can use this money to buy the school supplies I need such as pencils, paper, erasers, paper, notebooks, etc. Also, this scholarship will make help me to do well in college academically. Many students don’t do well in college academically because of their financial problems. Financial issues can cause a student to perform poorly, and if I have enough scholarships to finance my education, I would have less stress. Currently, I am in a tough financial situation. My mother is unemployed and my father is about to retire soon, so receiving this scholarship will take some of the financial burdens off my shoulder and theirs. I don’t want my parents to feel the need to come out of their pockets to pay for my education, so I am taking responsibility for writing this essay in hope of receiving some money. A healthy lifestyle is important to me because l want to live a long life without sickness or diseases. l also want to be an inspiration to others to live a healthy lifestyle. I want to be an inspiration to others now and when I'm older. My inspiration is a neighbor of mine. He is 80 and still tends a vegetable garden, he eats healthy, and he takes walks. He still cuts his own grass. He even offers to cut grass for other neighbors. A healthy lifestyle is important to me. I eat healthy foods and exercise to live longer and avoid sickness and diseases. I don't want to be a burden to anyone when I'm older. I want to help others now and when I'm older. I also want to inspire others to live a healthy lifestyle.

Amelia Boynton and Samuel William Boynton were civil rights activists who played a key role in efforts that led to the passage of The Voting Rights Act of 1965. Amelia and Samuel met in Selma in 1930 and later married in 1936. They shared a passion for improving the lives of African Americans. The Boyntons led the Dallas County Voters League which played a central role in voter registration drives in Selma Alabama. The couple worked together for more than 30 years to bring voting rights, education and property ownership to African Americans in poor, rural areas of Alabama. Samuel Boynton died in 1963 but Amelia Boynton continued to fight for civil and voting rights for African Americans. Amelia is best known for her work in Selma where she helped Martin Luther King Jr. establish his headquarters and helped lead the civil and voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama. Amelia Boynton was hospitalized after being teargassed and beaten by police at the march. A photograph of Amelia after being teargassed and beaten appeared on the cover of several newspapers. This drew national and international attention to the civil rights movement. When the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law, President Lyndon Johnson invited Amelia Boynton to attend as a guest of honor. Amelia Boynton was also honored by President Barack Obama during his State of the Union address for her role in the voting rights march. Amelia Boynton died in 2015 at the age of 104. She will be remembered for her brave fight for civil and voting rights for African Americans and all Americans. Hearing stories about Amelia and Samuel Boynton and their fight for civil and voting rights has inspired me. As an African American, l appreciate the people that marched and fought from my freedom. Because of their courage. I can pursue my education and exercise my voting rights. Although my degree is in Healthcare, l will still be able to encourage people of all backgrounds to vote for change. People need to know that their vote matters and they should exercise the right to vote and keep up the fight for voting rights of all citizens or it can be taken away. I will make a positive impact on the world with my vote because voting does change things. I will continue to be an activist and stand up for the rights for not only African Americans, but for equal opportunities for all people.

I've learned to change my perspective on health and fitness. I was always slim so l felt like l could eat what l wanted and didn't have to exercise. Some of my friends were eating salads and working out and they were still overweight. They said they were jealous because l would eat fast food like burgers and fries, pizza, and Chinese food and never gained a pound. I would have sodas, sweet drinks, and desserts too. I did this from my teenage years until my freshman year of college. Then l began to gain weight and develop skin problems. I also developed acid reflux, anxiety and depression. I told my mother and she suggested that l change my diet. I kept a food diary and noticed that every time l ate certain foods like chocolate, l developed acid reflux. I started to eat better such as grilled chicken and fish instead of fried foods. I even went meatless some days and actually started to like eating salads. I started walking more too. I lost a little weight and the acid reflux stopped. My skin looked better too and l felt better. I've learned to change my perspective on health and fitness because what you eat can affect you. If you eat the right foods in the right amounts and exercise, you can become healthier and happier.

One personal finance lesson that l find important is budgeting. I have learned to have a spending plan based on how much money l have and the expenses l have. I make a list of my expenses each month. Then l subtract those expenses from how much l have in the bank. In other words, l pay them on or before their due date. With the money left l transfer it to savings. This is my emergency fund in case unexpected expenses arise. I also treat myself once in awhile with something l want that's not too expensive. This gives me an incentive to make more money and save more money. By budgeting my money, l have learned to live within my means. That is, l don't spend more than l have. If l don't overspend, l can pay my bills, save, and have money in case of an emergency. I feel secure knowing l have a balanced budget.

"A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself." -Oprah Winfrey For many years, I was a tutor and mentor to students who were in jeopardy of being held back a grade. In addition to improving thier grades, l noticed an improvement in their self confidence and behavior. I started tutoring and mentoring students when l was elementary school. I continued tutoring and mentoring in middle and high school. I noticed the students that were struggling either lacked confidence or had bad behavior. After tutoring them, I would talk to them about being positive and try to build their self esteem. I would also talk to students with bad behavior about why they acted out. I would ask all of the students what they wanted to do after high school. Some said they wanted to go to college or trade school or to get a job. I told them that what they did now will affect if they get into college, trade school, or get the job they want. I told them that their grades and behavior is on their record and they needed to graduate from high school for college ,trade school, and most jobs. I believe the things l said impacted most of them in a good way. Some improved thier grades and behavior and seemed more self confident. Some went on to graduate from high school. I'm now a mentor to my younger cousins and nephew. I tell them the same things l told the students l mentored. I feel that l have made a good impact on them. They make good grades, are self confident, and have good behavior most of the time.

If l win $1000, l would put half towards my tuition and half towards my supply expenses. If my supply expenses are less than $500, l would put the rest in the bank as an emergency fund. If l win a $1000, half of it would go to tuition because l don't want any more student loans. Student loans are a burden because I'm constantly thinking about how I'm going to pay them back. I need to focus on my studies and not think about loans. The other $500 would go towards books and supplies. There is more to college than tuition. Books can cost $100 or more. Also, there are supplies such as notebooks, pens, and other supplies that constantly need to be purchased. Most of my work is done on my laptop so it may need to be replaced soon. That's why l need to reserve and emergency fund. Unexpected expenses are stressful. I need to focus on my studies rather than wondering how I'm going to pay for things. This $1000 scholarship will be greatly appreciated because it will help me pay some of my tuition without loans. It will help with other expenses such as supplies. It will also help me to establish an emergency fund in case unexpected expenses arise.

With everything going on in my life including wondering how to pay for college, l need to clear my mind daily. To protect my mental health and clear my mind, l have a variety of tips and resources. One thing l do daily is pray. I need to believe in a higher power and have hope in this life. I start my day with prayer. This brings me peace so l won't stress out when problems come my way. I know in advance there are solutions and the problems won't last. I also read books. I read the Bible before any other book. This gives me strength and hope. Then l read positive affirmations or other positive books. l've learned to be positive and stay positive throughout the day. When l have challenges l know l can overcome them. Another thing l do is deep breathing and exercise. This relieves stress and helps my mental health. Breathing exercises help out in stressful situations. Also, walking helps me especially walking outside on a sunny day because l know I'm getting vitamin D which studies show helps with stress. I also try to eat right and supplement with vitamins because we all have a cheat meal sometimes that's not too healthy. That's why l try to take my vitamins to make sure I'm getting the right vitamins for my brain. When I'm really stressed, l talk to family and friends l can trust and get their feedback. I talk to my mother most of the time because she's positive and gives good advice. I talk to my best friend too when l can't talk to my mother. I also write in my journal about my feelings. The first thing l do is to write something I'm grateful for. I think being grateful is the key to good mental health. I don't focus on the problems but the solutions. I focus on what's good in my life. I write positive affirmations in my journal and how to solve my problems. For instance, l write in my journal how grateful l am to be in college. Then l wrote how l would solve the problem of paying for college One solution is to apply for scholarships because l don't want any more student loan debt. I hope and pray I'll get enough in scholarships to pay for college this year without having to borrow any more money. I'm positive everything will work out for me. These tips and resources help me to clear my mind. I hope it can help others to clear their mind and have good mental health.

My favorite book is "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White. It's my favorite book because although it's a children's book, adults like it too. It has adult themes like true friendship and death. "Charlotte's Web" is about a pig being raised for slaughter. After the owner's daughter Fern pleads for the life of Wilbur, he becomes her pet. She names the pet pig Wilbur. After some time, Wilbur is sold and the new owner, Ferns uncle is raising Wilbur for slaughter. Wilbur meets a spider in the barn of the new owner. They become friends. Fern comes to visit but as she grows up her visits become less and less. Wilbur's new friend Charlotte tries to save him from slaughter. She weaves elaborate webs praising Wilbur. She tries to make him famous so he's less likely to be slaughtered. Charlotte's plan works as the barn becomes a tourist attraction and Wilbur and Charlotte becomes famous. They are entered in the county fair and Wilbur is spared from being slaughtered. Charlotte having a short life span realizes she is dying. She asks Wilbur to take her egg sac containing her children back to the barn. Charlotte dies at the county fairgrounds. When her children hatch, Wilbur looks after them. Although some of her children leave, three of them remain in the barn and becomes Wilbur's new friends. In the years to come, future generations of Charlotte also become Wilbur's friends and keep him company. "Charlotte's Web" is my favorite book because although it's a children's book it has adult themes such as true friendship and death.

One change that would make education better for future generations is school safety. Students need to know they're safe in order to learn properly. We need to guard our schools like we guard forts and gated communities. Schools need to have properly trained security officers stationed on and around school property. This discourages violence and makes students feel safer. Students will listen and learn more if they feel safe. Schools need to manage visitor access points. We need fences and gates with armed guards around our schools like forts and gated communities. We need to lock school doors to.insure only school personnel and students with digital IDs can enter our schools. We need to monitor and guard all parking lots and unauthorized vehicles at all times. Also, schools need to enforce stringent visitor check-in procedures and not allow anyone to just enter and roam the building. The building needs to be monitored with video surveillance at all times. Schools need to encourage students to play a role in maintaining school safety. They need counseling services to encourage all students to talk about their problems. This can improve student and staff protection against bullying, fights, assaults, and weapon use. Metal detectors should be installed in schools to discourage anyone from bringing weapons into the school. Schools can start an anonymous reporting system to support students who may be scared or uncomfortable to come forward. The students may report thier knowledge of incidents or incidents that may happen. In conclusion, the one change that would make education better for the future is school safety. Students need to feel safe in order to learn properly. Student safety is key or education will resort to all online learning. Our schools and universities will be empty if we don't improve their safety. We need to start making schools safer now for future generations.

Someone l admire from history is Rosa Parks. She is admirable because she fought for civil rights. Rosa Parks believed in freedom and that we should all be treated the same. Rosa Parks is called the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement" because her courage inspired others to fight against discrimination in a nonviolent way. Rosa Parks had the courage to say no to injustice when so many others didn't. She felt that she paid her fare on the bus just like everyone else so she should be able to sit where she wanted. She refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man in Montgomery Alabama in 1955 It was a law back then that blacks were to give up their seat to whites. She was arrested and fined which lead to African Americans boycotting the bus in Montgomery Alabama in 1955. The boycott was led by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. Rosa Parks inspired him and other African Americans to take action. The boycott lasted over a year and ended when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional. Rosa Parks became a nationally recognized symbol of dignity and strength to end racial segregation. In conclusion, l admire Rosa Parks because of her courage, dignity, and strength. She was willing to break the law for what was right and fair. Through her actions, Rosa Parks paved the way for African Americans and all people to enjoy freedom. She is truly my hero and has inspired me to have courage, dignity, and strength.

"Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like." -Will Rogers The most helpful piece of financial advice is when my parents told me not to spend more than l have but to save some for the future. They told me not to borrow if l didn't have to. They also taught me to set a budget and stick to it. My parents taught me not to be impulsive in spending money. They said to pay in cash or a debit card for purchases and not use a credit card unless l planned to pay it off at the end of the month. In other words, don't spend money you don't have especially on things you don't need. This way you'll save more money for emergencies and the future. They said if you budget and save early in your life, you'll be ready for retirement when the time comes. So many people in their 20's, 30's, or even 40's spend money on things they don't need or rarely use trying to impress people or keep up with others. By the time they're in their 50's they realize they have no savings for emergencies or money for retirement. Some are in debt because they paid for these things on credit. Some people even have to file for bankruptcy. I am starting to take their advice. I'm applying for scholarships and grants instead of loans so l won't have debt. I try to save and budget instead of spending money on things l don't need or probably won't use. I'm not trying to impress people. I only want to impress my parents. I want them to be proud of me.

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed." -Gandhi The biggest problem facing the world right now is greed because it leads to so many other problems. The root cause of greed is to collect resources. Some people hoard things because of greed. This can be anything from money, food, or clothing Greedy people always want more. They tend to believe they have less than what they deserve. The greedy person takes even at the expense of others. This leads to burglaries, robberies, and murder for money. Greed also leads to embezzlement because of a sense of entitlement. Greed leads to overspending which leads to social issues like bankruptcy and divorce. Corporate greed is to blame for many of society's problem. CEOs have created an economy that is out of balance. Chief Executives line their pockets with the labor of their employees who receive much lower wages. Some companies cut corners to make inferior products because of greed. Some unethical companies cause air pollution which leads to global warming and climate change. One way we can work on the problem of greed is through compassion for others and generosity. People need to stop hoarding and give to those in need. Also, people need to stop taking from others and start giving to others Companies need to bridge unfair wage gaps between their workers and Chief Executives. Companies need to stop making inferior products and polluting the air that leads to climate change Companies need to be more generous by setting up foundations to help the poor or scholarship programs if they haven't already done so. Greed leads to many problems in our society. If people and companies would become more compassionate and generous some of these problems could be eliminated.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."- Gandhi Those are probably the wisest words I've ever heard. Some people want change but they want someone else to do it. If we want change we must be the change. Growing up hearing stories about people who changed history, l must say that Rosa Parks comes to mind because she changed so much. She had the guts to say no to injustice when so many others just didn't want to make waves. She paid her fare for the bus so she should've been able to sit where she wanted. She was a fearless woman. Maybe she had some fear but courage is doing something when you fear it. She risked her freedom to say no to injustice. That paved the way for others to fight for justice even though some were in fear, they marched and fought for justice and equality They risked their lives to fight for freedom that changed the lives of many people. Some people want someone else to invent something to solve a problem or they want someone else to speak up for them. They should try to invent what they want or speak up themselves. In other words, they should be the change in the world.

No one can get anywhere unless he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to be or do."-Norman Vincent Peale Setting goals leads to greater focus, performance, and success. I have many short-term as well as long-term goals One of my goals is to graduate from college with a degree in Healthcare Administration. I want to to become a Healthcare Administrator. I believe l am a leader and l can also help people in this profession. I want to pay off my student loans sooner than later. Debt can be very stressful. Another goal is to be married to my soulmate and stay married for life. I want us to also buy out first house together. I also want to become a mother. I want to be an inspiration to my child or children like my mother is to me. My goals are important to me. They help me to focus on what l want to achieve and work towards them.

There are several study strategies l use to achieve academic success. I need to be well rested before l study. I don't wait to the last minute to study. I listen to music when l study. I also take breaks when l study. I make sure I'm well rested before l study. If I'm tired, l don't retain the information well and sometimes l fall asleep before l finish studying. I don't wait to the last minute to study. You never know what can come up the day before a test. So l space out my studying. Then the night before l review the information. I listen to music when l study. This works for me. It may be a distraction for others. l take breaks and do something fun or have a snack when l study. This recharges my brain so l can get back to studying. These study strategies work for me to achieve academic success. Everyone is different and they need to find out what strategies work for them.

We all go through tough times and are grateful when someone helps us get through them. At other times we have been concerned about other people's mental health. The person may not be themselves or the person you know them to be. They may seem sad or anxious and you can tell they are struggling with mental health issues. One practical solution for helping people who struggle with mental health issues is to have a talk with them. This talk should be private with no distractions. Let them share as little or as much as they want to. Try not to judge them or diagnose them. Ask the person questions that aren't too personal or embarrassing. Listen to what the person is saying. After listening to what the person is sharing, decide on some possible solutions. You can refer them to a professional therapist. If they don't want to talk to a therapist face-to-face you can suggest some online therapists. You can also decide if the person is in danger and ask if they want to talk to law enforcement and offer to go with them. Also, if the person is talking about self harm, you can take them to the nearest behavioral center or emergency room if they're willing to go. The one practical solution for helping people with mental health issues is listening to them and being there for them. Then you can decide on the best course of action. You can point them to professionals who can help them even more.

"l firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles." - Anne Frank I love nature because it calms me down. I try to appreciate nature because l can go for a walk and breathe in the fresh air. It takes my mind off of the bad things l see on the news or my own problems. Whether it winter, spring, summer, or fall, it's always beautiful outside. Winter is cold and l can wear my coats. The snow is beautiful when it's falling and on the ground. Spring is beautiful because of the rain that cleans the air and the flowers. Summer is great because l get to go to the beach and feel the sun in my skin. I also like to watch the waves of the ocean and hear them beating against the sand. It's so peaceful. Then l look at the blue sky and clouds and at night l see the starry skies. I also get to visit the mountains, lakes, and streams which are also beautiful. Fall is when l see the trees change colors from green to yellow, red, orange and brown. It's a gorgeous sight to see. From winter, spring, summer, and fall l love nature because it's beautiful. I appreciate nature because it calms me down.

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." --- Maya Angelou There are several ways l apply creativity in my life. I love to try new things, read, daydream, and journal. I heard doing things you love boosts creativity. I try new things to boost my creativity. I used to go to different restaurants but now l order in from different places. I also love to cook so l try out different recipes. I love to read to boost creativity. Reading expands my mind because l can become part of the story or imagine I'm one of the characters. Reading takes me to places l may never visit physically or maybe one day l will visit those places I've read about. I daydream to take me to places I've never been or meet people I've never met. Daydreaming allows my mind to wander and come up with creative ideas I also journal daily. First l write a grateful list. Then I write my short and long term goals. All of these things help me to apply creativity in my life. They help me develop new ways of thinking and expand my imagination.

An important life lesson I've learned is not to procrastinate. I used to wait to the last minute to do things. I would put off assignments, studying, and housework. I've learned that this is not the way to be if you want to be successful in life. Learning to complete tasks early has made me a stronger person. I read a quote by Abraham Lincoln that says" You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.". That changed my mind for a little while. Then l began to fall back into my old habit of procrastination. I still waited to the last minute to study for exams or clean my room. Then one day I had a room inspection during exam week and wasn't ready for them because l didn't clean my room. I knew they were coming that month but l didn't think they would come during exam week. I thought they would wait until the next week. I told them to come back because l was doing a timed exam. They came back and l was throwing things in the closet while they were knocking on the door. That was stressful. Then something more stressful happened because of my procrastination l put off doing a project until the day before it was due. I was doing the project when my some of my laptop keys stopped working. I started to panic because if l got a zero on this project l would fail the class. I emailed the professor from my phone and asked for more time. He responded back and said no. I promised myself that if l got this project done on time, I'll never procrastinate again. I downloaded an application on my phone that let me complete the project right before it was due. That was a life lesson for for not to procrastinate again. I have used this life lesson to help me move forward in life. I start assignments when l get them and not wait because you never know what will happen when you wait until the last minute. This experience has made me stronger as a person and in life. I don't procrastinate anymore when l remember the quote by Abraham Lincoln and the things that have happened to me. I'm stronger now as a person because I've learned from my experiences. I know that need this life lesson to graduate from college. I also need this life lesson in my career in the Healthcare field. I know l cannot procrastinate on the job because someone's life may be dependent on my timely actions.

Generosity is giving or sharing what you have. Generosity is not just monetary. It can also be in the form of words, time, and gifts. When someone gives money, any amount is generous because they either worked hard for it or it was given to them. They could have chosen to keep it because it's valuable to them. Giving it away means they value you. Sometimes generosity isn't in the form of money. Sometimes it's the words a person speak. When someone complements you it's generous because they didn't have to say it. Some people are also generous with good advice. They help you along the way. Some people are generous with their time. They could use their time in some other way, but they chose to spend it with you. You may need their help with something or just their company and they're generous enough to be there for you. Generosity can be in the form of gifts. On special occasions some people give gifts and some don't. The one's that give gifts are generous. They took the time to go shopping or order something online when they didn't have to do it. In conclusion, generosity comes in many forms. People can be generous with their money, words, time, and gifts.

I was shy and quiet in middle and high school. I made good grades and wore glasses so l guess l was considered a nerd. I didn't have many friends so l didn't want to go to the cafeteria. I developed anxiety and depression. I did meet one friend who was similar to me and she convinced me to go eat in the cafeteria. It was loud and l felt like people were staring at me. Then one day there was a food flight and my friend was hit in the head with an apple slice. She wasn't hurt but she didn't want come back to school. She said she was going to home school. I was devastated. I asked my mother could l homeschool and she told me not to give up like my friend. She said to be persistent and not fearful. I was persistent to go to school and l met a new friend who was more socialble and introduced me to other people. I became more socialble and started to enjoy school more. I talked to my friend who left school and she said she was unhappy at home. She felt anxious and depressed because she had no one to talk to. She missed graduating with the class because she gave up. I'm glad was persistent and didn't give up going to school just because someone else did. I'm in college now and l have friends and I'm more socialble and confident.

"Knowledge is Power" I've always heard. If that's the case l believe that more knowledge means more power. That's why I'm passionate about receiving my education. Some other reasons why I'm passionate about furthering my education are better pay, more career opportunities and advancement in the workplace. One reason I'm passionate about receiving a college education is college graduates earn more than high school graduates. According to a 2014 Pew Research Center survey, college graduates earn $17,500 more per year than those with just a high school diploma. That's $700,000 over a fourty year period. That study was done eight years ago and college graduates probably earn more than high school graduates now. Another reason Im passionate about receiving my college education is there are more career opportunities with a college degree. First of all, college graduates get hired over applicants without a college degree. Employers know that a college graduate has motivation and a willingness to learn and see things through. College graduates also learn organizational and time management skills which is a valued trait to any profession. Also college graduates have stronger communication skills and a sense of responsibility which employers look for in a candidate. These traits are why employers look for a college degree even for entry-level positions. Finally l am passionate about receiving my college education because of the advancement opportunities in the workplace. Many employers now require a college degree for their entry-level positions. This is because they eventually want to promote an employee to management positions in the future. Depending on a person's performance in that entry-level position it's easier to promote them to a higher position because they already have a college degree. A college degree is required in most companies to be promoted to a management position. In conclusion, I'm passionate about receiving my college degree because l want to be a Healthcare Administrator. I know a college degree is required for that position. I know l have to work hard and make good grades in college just as l did in high school. I may have to begin in an entry-level position to gain experience. I can use the organizational and time management skills l learned in college to move up in the company. I can also use my communication skills to move into a management position. Or l may be hired into a management or supervisory position. A college degree will make that possible for me.

In high school l developed anxiety and depression. So did my brother. He took medicine for it because he also had social anxiety disorder and didn't want to go to school. I decided not to take medicine. It was tough and still is. I manage as best l can. So does my brother. He decided to get off the medicine and join the Army where he received confidence training and therapy. I am in college and it's much better than high school but l still struggle to make friends and go places. Even the dining hall. I cook my food or order out to avoid going out and seeing people. I don't know why l think everyone is focusing on me. I even avoid therapy because l feel like I'm being judged. I manage by praying and talking to my mother. I feel better after talking to her. My mental health issues have shaped my goal of wanting to be in healthcare because l want to help people. I know when you help others you feel better. My mental health issues have shaped my relationships because l don't have many friends. I don't talk to anyone from high school and the people I've met at college l rarely talk to. I talk to my brother sometimes but he's negative and l have to stay away from that. I've yet to have a lasting relationship. These issues have shaped my understanding of the world to know not to be with negative people and to make friends with positive people. Also l shouldn't have a negative attitude but try to stay positive

Being an African American female certainly has it's challenges. Some people think we're not smart. Some people think we steal and some are just racist against us because of what they're taught. I've tried to overcome these challenges by doing the opposite of what some people may think. I studied hard to have a good grade point average and to graduate with highest honors in high school. Also, I'm trying to achieve that in college. Also I've never stolen anything in my life. If l don't have the money l don't get the item. I've seen people watching me as though I'm going to steal They don't know me though. They just see the color of my skin. As far as people being racist against me because of the color of my skin, there's nothing l can do about that except pray. I can continue to do good things and maybe some of them will change their minds. One thing l can do is complete my education in Healthcare Administration and get a good job in a hospital or nursing home to help people that are underserved or underrepresented such as the elderly or veterans. In fact l can help people of all races and backgrounds because l was taught to love all people regardless of race or where they came from. My mom told me a story about when she worked in a nursing home. A patient at the nursing home was racist but my mom was nice to her. One day the patient told my mom she was no longer racist and she felt like my mom was her best friend. That patient died soon after that and my mom said she felt like that patient went to heaven because she no longer hated African Americans or people of other races and asked God to forgive her. I feel like my mom made a difference and changed someone's mind and life. By working in the Healthcare field l am confident that l too can change the life of someone. I can not only change their physical health from bad to good but their mental health as well. They can enter a hospital or other health care facility in one way and leave feeling better. I can make a difference. I hope you consider me for this scholarship. It will help me to achieve my goals without the burden of student debt.

I don't deserve this scholarship. I'm just doing this to pass the time. I don't have any academic or career goals. Whatever will be will be. I have had fear of crowds so much so that l didn't want to go in cafeteria or dining halls. I'm still trying to overcome that fear.

I live boldly everyday by practicing bravery. By that l mean l do things that take me out of my comfort zone. It keeps me brave. I wasn't always this way. I was quiet and shy in high school. I wouldn't speak up in class or even ask a question if l didn't understand. I avoided the public speaking class required to graduate. I finally took it senior year in order to graduate. The day before my first speech l told my mom l didn't want to go to school the next day because of it. I remember her saying that l had to do it someday and l might as well get it over with. She also said that courage is doing something you're afraid to do. I was surprised because my mom is as bold as a lioness! She said she's done things WITH the fear of doing it. Even though l was afraid the whole time, l gave the speech the next day and was glad when it was over! Every since that time l live bravely and practice boldness by doing things I'm afraid to do. Maybe one day I'll go bungee jumping.

"You are what you eat" I've always heard. If you eat the right foods you'll be healthier both physically and mentally. Eating unhealthy or junk foods will result in an unhealthy body and mind. Growing up as a child l was not always in control of what my food choices. I ate what was placed before me on the table at breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was meat such as pork, excessive carbohydrates and sweets or sweetened beverages. l didn't like the vegetables. Sometimes l hid them in a napkin and threw them away. Also the snacks were definitely junk food which is unhealthy. Now that I'm an adult, I am in control what l eat and l want to change because I've suffered from acne and acid reflux. The reason l wasn't overweight is because l couldn't eat certain foods because of the reflux. Sometimes l wouldn't eat at all because of reflux. I've also suffered from anxiety and depression. I know that what you eat causes these conditions. I know l need drink more water and eat more vegetables. This will help clear my skin and help my digestive system so the acid reflux will subside. It will also help with anxiety and depression. I also want to change because l see family members who are eating unhealthy foods and suffer from diabetes and other diseases such as heart disease and cancer. My grandmother died from heart disease. My grandfather died of diabetes and my aunt died of cancer. They ate pork sweets and soda. It makes me want to change my eating habits. I will maintain this change by choosing healthy foods and drinking more water instead of soda for a period of 21 days. I've heard if you keep doing something for that amount of time it becomes a habit.Then l plan to continue my healthy eating habits for life. I also plan to add an exercise routine because l see so many people with weight problems because of food choices and not getting enough exercise. In conclusion, we may not be able to control our food choices as children which can lead to unhealthy eating but as adults we can make a change. We can make healthy choices by eating right and excercising which lead to a healthier body and mind. We can also maintain these healthy choices by sticking to them for a specified period of time which leads to a lifetime of good health.

I have stayed optimistic through tough times in my life through my faith that things will get better. A quote about optimism by Walt Disney says "l always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I'm realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter." I live by that mantra every day. In high school l was quiet and shy so l was bullied. When l decided to speak out more, people still said negative things. My mom taught me not to worry about what people think or say. They may be jealous because l had good grades or the teachers liked me. So l was remained optimistic through that. When l graduated high school l didn't have to worry about those people anymore. In college I've met some friends and they accept me for who l am. My optimism has helped me to look past the problems knowing that they will eventually work out. My problems has taught me life lessons such as not trusting everyone and saying the right things at the right time.

My favorite piece of art is the Mona Lisa. It's my favorite because her smile is always there on one side. Life has ups and downs so on one side she's not smiling because it's inappropriate to smile in some situations. She keeps one side as a smile because she knows it's going to get better. I'm like that too because I've been through some situations in my life that l didn't know how they were going to work out but l had hope and they worked out. I'm also going through some things now like how am going to pay for college without any more student loans. I have a lot of student debt and l don't want to borrow any more. So I'm applying for more scholarships and hope l don't have to borrow this school year. Winning this scholarship will help towards that goal. That's why l have a Mona Lisa smile because l know everything's going to work out.

"Knowledge is Power". With the knowledge l gain with a Healthcare degree l can truly make a difference in the lives of people such as the elderly or disabled who can't do for themselves. This scholarship will make this possible by reducing the need for student loans so l can concentrate on my studies instead of focusing on debt.

With my degree, I have the knowledge, skills, and confidence that will help me to be successful in my career. Knowing that I will make a difference in many people’s lives, will be such a rewarding feeling. This Degree will prepare me for a job as a Registered Nurse and many different Nursing opportunities. I chose to pursue a Nursing Degree because I’ve always wanted to become a nurse ever since I was in Elementary School. As a child, I remember dreaming of taking care of many patients in my uniform, so I believe Nursing is my calling. As a Nurse, my job will be to help many people and dedicate my life to caring for others. The thought of impacting and making a difference in people’s lives is very fulfilling for me. There may be challenges along the way in achieving my goals, but I won’t let these challenges overtake me. I will not let adversity hinder me from achieving my dream of becoming a Nurse. As I will be attending college in the next few months to study for my Nursing Degree, I know it’s well known for college students to experience debt. College is very expensive and tuition costs can be very high. Many college students are in debt, and this may result in them dropping out and not doing well academically. To prevent debt, I will be saving money, getting as many scholarships as I can, and working while I attend school. This scholarship will be extremely helpful for me in achieving my goals because it will take some of the financial burdens off my shoulders. Through these challenges I may face, I will continue to persevere until my dream of becoming a Nurse is a reality. To conclude, I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because I always put in effort in everything that I do. I believe the best part about being an Oncology nurse is forming a bond with the patient and patients’ families. Many Oncology nurses' role is to get patients and the patients’ families through this terrible illness. Many oncology nurses form long-lasting bonds with their patients which is important for the patient’s emotional state. If a patient is doing well emotionally, they may also get better physically. Oncology nurses comfort patients when they receive bad news and they also help celebrate with the patient when there is good news. They are there to help and support the patient to help them get better and I believe that is very rewarding. It’s important for a nurse to be kind, compassionate, and patient. I believe I have these traits, so that’s why I want to pursue this career. I am extremely passionate about attending college to work towards being a Nurse and actually being able to work as a nurse. Tough situations build strong people in the end.” In Middle school and High School, I did well and I made good grades most of the time, but around this time I started to face adversity. Middle school and High School were difficult for me because I struggled with bullying and being left out. I was different from a lot of the children and didn’t fit in well. I was focused on my schoolwork a lot, so I was often called “nerd” and many other offensive names. Kids can be cruel sometimes, but I didn’t let their offenses stop me from focusing on my school work. Sometimes the bullying would get so bad, it would cause me to cry myself to sleep. I leaned on family and friends for support and their advice and kind words helped me. But through all of this, I still did well in middle school. I received many awards and got invited to luncheons for my positive behavior and good grades. My parents were extremely proud of me for all that I accomplished and the challenges I overcame. I am currently a sophomore in college and I can say that college has been great so far. What motivates me to be successful is how I see myself in the future. I see myself as a nurse helping so many people and dedicating my life to caring for others. All I’ve wanted to do in life is improve the community and the lives of people all around me.
